After a couple games...

You can tell the series is going in the right direction. Really looks cool, with nice animations. Most of the players look and act just like their counterparts.

But I think it was snate that said you feel like you're watching more than you're playing. "Sluggish" is probably the best word I can think of when playing this game. Everything seems delayed. I couldn't get much of a gauge on hitting because it seemed pretty unresponsive. Kind of like that unresponsive feeling you get playing certain games online.

This could be something I get used to...I dunno. Count me as one who was looking forward to this game who's disappointed by my (very) initial impressions.

fielding makes or breaks baseball games. If it is sluggish...forget it.

Well, I'll be playing the demo later on tonight. If the game ends up disappointing I'll be disappointed. I have higher expectations for MLB: The Show on the PS3. I'm a bigger fan of that series than the 2K series. I won't rush to judgement though. I have a month with 2K7 until The Show (supposedly) comes out. More later tonight.

I wonder if this is just in the demo....and to my knowledge, there's no assisted or auto fielding. :? I hope this isn't a game killer....keep the impressions coming gents, can't get home from work soon enough.

If that's the case, The Show has been pretty abysmal the last few years. And we know that isn't the case.

I don't know about abysmal but I do know what you mean.

Yeah, the fielding will take some getting used to. When the action would switch to the fielding cam, it would take me a second to find the fielding cursor on the screen (which is kind of hard to pick out), so my reactions to the ball were very slow in some cases. Again, maybe this is something that gets better with experience.

And hitting felt off to me. There definitely seemed to be quite a bit of delay between pressing the button to swing and seeing the result onscreen.

AJ,

Have you tried using the analog stick to swing? I know I prefer using the buttons as well, but I hear the analog stick is pretty responsive.

It is a shame about the fielding. I was really hoping we'd get the same gameplay camera angles we did with the MVP series. I'm guessing we won't get any different options in the full version. That's a bummer.

I wonder if the Canadian servers are faster than the US ones, or if the demo is even stored in separate ones, but I've never had a problem downloading anything at less than impressive rates.

Anywho, downloading now, but my impressions are probably going to be useless because of my relative lack of knowledge of baseball games made in the last five years. Give me some sweet Ryne Sandberg's Super Bases Loaded or Baseball Stars though...

Well, we all know there was going to be some issues with the game.

Is it fun so far? Can we look past the fielding because the game is fun to play?

I might sign up for a month of XBL Gold tonight so I can get the demo, but if it's taking hours, I'll just wait until I pick the game up tomorrow.

Wait i just asked this and I was told I was incorrect that this series does have auto fielding. color me confused.

Yeah, I started with the analog stick actually, and switched because I couldn't get a feel for it, even though I enjoyed that style in NCAA.

I had very limited time with the game so far, so everything could change tonight after some more playing time. It may just be a matter of getting used to a game engine that I'm a lot less familiar with than MVP's or The Show's.

But I'll stand by my first impressions of the game controls not being as tight or responsive as those other games.

Do you think this could be due to it being on your HD and also that it is probably an older build I would guess?

I've got it at 21% so far after about 25mins...

Judging from my experience with the NBA 2K7 demo I'm guessing this is going to be identical to the game that we are getting this week.

I've been away from the series since 2K5 (which I hated, but loved 2K4) instead I've been playing the show for the past two years. Maybe that'll help with my initial impressions and considering I never played 2K6 last year after hearing all the crappy reviews.

Now who should I play with, Cards or Detroit? hmmmmmm:)

That could be. Thought about that. Also the fact that not many seem to be complaining about what I'm talking about at OS makes me wonder as well, although snate mentioned something similar to my take in his post.

Curious what you guys have to say when you get it "in person".

Quite a bit faster than our folks down south I guess. It took me 24 minutes to download the demo.

It's only slow because everybody is downloading it now. I'm sure by the time I get home from work (7:00 central) it will be pretty fast. Doesn't the same thing happen the morning a new demo is released?

24 minutes? I on hour 6, and I've been stuck at 86% for the last hour. I'll own the darn game before this demo downloads!

EDIT:
Well, I tried cancelling and restarting the download, now it's stuck at 23%. This bites monkey butt! I won't be able to play until late tonight, if it ever does download, because my wife will be watching 24. Oh well...

Aw man I thought we were playing the final game of the World Series. No worries. The mets are no match for the cards!!!

I'm stuck at 52%. Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.

I was able to dl the demo in under 30 minutes.

After playing just one 3-inning game I've decided to hold off on this one. The fielding is atrocious IMO. Sure the graphics look insane, but wow what a cluster with the fielding.

Also, I know 2K is known for having small outfields, but did they shrink them even more?????
