That's just not true. It really seems like that but you could have said the same thing about the Bengals 4 years ago. Arizona and Detroit will turn it around one day. Detroit won't until they get rid of Millen but Arizona is closer than you would think.Pete wrote:There are a lot of people on this board much more knowledgeable than myself when it comes to the NFL, but it just seems like it is damn near impossible to be a successful coach at Arizona and Detroit.laurenskye wrote:Anyone hear the latest on the Denny Green situation in Arizona? It was reported on ESPN that he will be gone after the season and maybe as soon as next week.
I still don't know why people think he's a great coach, I mean what has he really done in the NFL as a head coach? He won some games in Minnesota but that division has sucked for some time before Tampa got good.
I swear you could put almost anyone in this position and the results would be the same. Put bkrich at head coach, db at defensive coord., pk at offensive coord., XXXIV at special teams and they would win as many games as the recent staffs.

I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

But the Bengals have been successful in the past making two Super Bowls. Arizona and Detroit have had very minimal success.ScoopBrady wrote:That's just not true. 34 is in charge of special needs, not special teams.Pete wrote:I swear you could put almost anyone in this position and the results would be the same. But this all seems to justify why I don't think he's great. He had good teams that won in the regular season and bombed out in the playoffs.
I think a great coach is someone who takes a bad team and makes the playoffs or someone with a good team and makes it to the superbowl.
Then when he took flak in Minnesota he pulled the race card. I guess that kinda sticks in my craw.

Dennis Green is a great guy IMO. Of course, I'm biased:
"He grew up in the inner city of Harrisburg, PA. He lost his parents when his dad and then mother died when he was 11 and 13."

Knowing Denny Green the way I do, I won't shed a tear for him.

It seems that the league will be playing at least two games during the regular season outside the US in 07-08 . Places like Canada, Mexico and England.

Can anyone at ESPN get Irvin to shut the f*** up? He has the nerve to call Tiki Barber a quitter.
Tiki is one of the class acts in the NFL. I can't rant on Irvin anymore my head will explode.

Agreed.. I am also sick of hearing about TO.... now thats blown over we have to hear about the QB situation in Dallas..... Dallas sucks.. they have been nothing more than an average at best since free agency. Please talk about someone that is good like Chicago, Denver or even the Colts that I hate. But please, show something about a team with a record better than 3-3.JackDog wrote: Tiki is one of the class acts in the NFL. I can't rant on Irvin anymore my head will explode.

At first I thought it was because everyone's enamored with T.O., but now that they are blubbering endlessly about their QB situation, I realized it. They do talk a lot about Dallas, don't they?bdunn13 wrote:Agreed.. I am also sick of hearing about TO.... now thats blown over we have to hear about the QB situation in Dallas..... Tiki Barber is an instant legend for calling out that babbling, wide-tie wearing druggie, Michael Irvin. God only knows what ESPN sees in him.
You can read what he said here, but you really want to hear an audio clip because the way Tiki said it was priceless.

A distraction is what Brett Favre did this offseason. If anything, Barber discussing this candidly now lets his teammates know where he stands. It's not like he's saying he's not going to play hard (and his play on the field certainly says otherwise). It's also probably better for the team than the way Robert Smith just said, "I'm done" with the Vikings a few years ago. Not that I blame Smith for that, but it's definitely easier from a personnel perspective to know a decision like this way in advance.
I do agree that Irvin has a job for precisely this reason -- he's says outrageous crap that grabs attention. Sadly, sports studio analysts seem to have gone the way of talk radio hosts, with the more obnoxious and outrageous people getting all the attention.

Lovie Smith and the Bears were pretty greedy today after a 41-0 first half. He kept the first stringers in there through the 3rd quarter and the Bears took a couple of roughing the passer penalties trying to kick a team while it was down.
Griese comes in and the first thing he does is try a pass. Other than Griese, it still seems to be first-stringers on both sides of the ball.
Well the 49ers aren't the team that's going to hit back but here's hoping some other team does it in the playoffs.
What a bunch of classless shits da Bears are.

Jealousy will get you no where my friend.
Lovie Smith classless...? I guess that's one way you could look at it.

What team is going to pull there starters out at the beginging of the second half? They were in for most of the 3rd quarter because they had a drive that lasted over 9 minutes. They got one roughing the passer and it was questionable at best.wco81 wrote:He kept the first stringers in there through the 3rd quarter and the Bears took a couple of roughing the passer penalties trying to kick a team while it was down.
What did you want them to do, just not line up to play for the last 30 minutes?
Almost the entire Defense was off the field for the whole 4th quarter. Guys were being spotted yes, because last I check in week 7 most teams can't throw out a complete second Team defense with backups or 5 new guys on the offensive line.Other than Griese, it still seems to be first-stringers on both sides of the ball.

Irvin owned Tiki's ass this morning on Countdown. Irvin gave an opinion, Tiki responded with a personal attack. Real CLASSY Tiki. That's okay because he'll see that Irvin Scoreboarded his arse this morning.WillHunting wrote:I think ESPN wants Irwin's idiotic rants so people get riled up and call in and complain. Anyway, I rather be a quitter than a druggie.
Now Tiki said after the game that it was just their opinion. Did he suddenly realized that he's going to be one of those former players in broadcasting giving his opinion when he hangs it up?
