Why is that a feature? I'm confused. You are required to still have DirecTV and you're still required to have Sunday Ticket...so why on earth would you want to stream the NFL games instead of watching them over satellite, in likely a higher resolution?

I suppose the only advantage would be if you went to someone else's house with your Xbox, but how often will that happen?

Well, it might help the NFL App work with DirecTV, but I'll just view this as one of the baby steps towards sports eventually cutting ties with cable TV. We are long ways from there, but I'm all for sports finding another way to generate revenue that forcing people to buy expensive cable packages they can live without. If I could get my local hockey and baseball on apps through my game console, as well as all the other sports I want, I'd never pay for cable again.

I really don't care about the NFL through an app, as it is the easiest of all sports to watch over free TV. Sunday Ticket might get you more games, but 90% of NFL fans can watch their favorite teams for free most every week. In St. Louis, 100% of the Blues and Cardinals are on cable now, when each used to have a fair amount of games on local OTA TV.

If Microsoft had not bungled the launch of the One so thoroughly, they might have had the leverage to speed up this process.

I picked up Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on the way home. I chose PS4 because supposedly the frame rate is better. I'm looking forward to giving it a try...never played it before.

Does Amazon sell games digitally on the same day they are released?

This is disappointing, but expected.

Updated to basically say the Xbox One version is inferior to the PS4 version. Framerates are the devil.

It would be worth noting if it was anyone but Phil Kollar doing that review. He is incapable of assessing how a game plays on its own merits.

Well, seeing framerate dips isn't exactly a subjective thing and from what I understand, the polygon guys collaborate on most reviews to at least see if there are any glaring issues. That doesn't mean they are good at their job...as long as they report facts, I'm all good.

I know when I went in to pick it up this weekend, they asked me XBox One or PS4. I didn't even hestitate and got the PS4 version.

It's pretty freaking gorgeous. I haven't had a framerate dip of any sort, and at least Lara's character is noticeably prettier than even my PC version. The clarity in some of the vistas and running around is impressive.

I can't speak for the XB1 version as I don't have it, but as I expect will be common for me, chose the PS4 pretty easily and don't regret it.

Just curious. I played this on my PC with everything maxed and what I have seen of the PS4 version is comparable but not better than the PC. My question is were you able to play the PC version at full load so to speak? I'm just curious if the videos of the PS4 version aren't doing it justice.

While this was my GOTY, I have no intention of playing it again, no matter how starved I am for something new for either console.

Yes, full load. But let me clarify the statement--Lara's Character, meaning her character model and I like the face they gave her more than the original that's on PC.

That's where I was putting the emphasis--I like Laura a lot better on the PS4 version, but it's not much different than the PC version on Ultra settings on the same monitor outside of Lara herself. And the stupid little things like the physics on her weapons that you have on her character swinging around, stupid stuff like that. But it all adds together to look phenomenal--not enough to warrant buying it again unless you just want to play it on the DS4 controller and check out the new character model.

Thanks Terry. I loved the game but I have so many games unfinished I really can't go back to it. I'm kind of addicted to M&M X right now.

I've hovered over the "purchase" button for M&M X on Steam multiple times, but that's a topic for another thread.

PS4 reportedly getting PS1/PS2 emulation.

There's a few games I'd absolutely love to play again.....SSX, NBA Street, Downhill Domination, etc

I'd love to see Farcry 3 get the Tomb Raider treatment. I know that gets to a slippery slope, but I didn't have a PC that can run it and it was a choppy mess on the XBOX. I wanted to like the game, but the framerate was too much of a mess and gave me motion sickness.

Good to read this.. I purchased it a couple of nights ago and I'm really into it. I know it's not for everyone, but it's right my alley.

I hate that I feel like I am always responding to your post negatively so please don't think that but I read the original article earlier today (kudos to IGN for basically creating an article on another sites story) and I have a hard time believing this came from any source and was just made up. This is the part I found fishy.
Our information suggests that the same internal emulator strategy is planned for PlayStation 4, and we understand that Sony is actively pursuing the ability for older titles to run without the blurry upscaling seen on PS3, suggesting that native HD resolutions are being targeted. Assuming this intention carries through to final code, we'll be seeing an effect similar to the resolution scaling seen on unofficial PC emulation of Sony's consoles, as well as a great many of the "HD remasters" we saw on PS3 - where original assets were rendered at a higher resolution, often without any actual remastering at all.
If someone with more technical knowledge than I could explain how a game that wasn't created in HD resolutions will magically be transported to HD resolutions with the same art resources I would love to hear it. If a game is being remastered to use HD visuals then it essentially not being emulated any longer.

Maybe I'm just not up on the tech but upscalling is the process where the system analyzes a group of pixels and guesses what should be there to created the higher resolutions. So the more pixels there are the better it can guess what should be there. PS1 and PS2 games are not going to have anywhere near the pixels for this to work and be called HD. Again this all based on what I thought I know, I would love for someone with more tech savy like DB to point out why I am wrong.

Add this to the fact that:
A. it's a direct competitor of their cloud streaming service
B. The original article comes from Eurogamer

I have a hard time buying it. Personally there are a lot of games I would love to see remastered and hope I am wrong but this seems like a slow news day kind of story.

Saw a video comparing the PC version side by side with the PS4 or X1 version where the trees and foliage were swaying in the wind in the console version but not the PC version.

I can assure you they sway in the wind on the PC. I have video footage that shows it on my channel.

You're right. There's virtually no way (that I know of anyway) to just make pixels appear out of thin air and make them truly look HD without upscaling considerably. I'm with you...I don't buy it...at least how it's explained in the quotes you posted.
