XBox One AND PS4 Discussion

I have Fios and I tried the NFL app. It didn't seem like anything great. It has the NFL Network and Red Zone, but since you have to sign into the app using your Fios ID I'm assuming you need to have those channels as part of your package to get them. If you have the TV setup then what is the big deal? There are some stats and fantasy but it's nothing you can't get on an iPad and the NFL app seemed a good 3-5 minutes behind the TV.

I found it to be much like the ESPN app in that you can look at all the segments they've done the last few weeks and they can be organized by team if you like. That kind of thing is handy. Also it has a lot of statistics that are updated live during the games, which is pretty neat having it right there, "snapped" on the TV screen.

Does the PS4 actually update installed games when left in standby mode? I am using my free month of PSN membership, and I had the console in standby. I have BF4 installed, but it didn't start loading yesterday's update until after I booted up.

It's supposed to but who knows. An update for me took an hour and I left it on standby and it did it while on standby. But not sure if you need to boot it up and then let the update start then put it back on standby for it to work.

It's pretty apparent that half the things Sony/MS say these next gen systems can do obviously don't.

Got a chance to demo Forza 5 today at Game Stop. Very impressed and the visuals are gorgeous. Standing only 2 feet away from the screen isn't great, but I was able to get a real nice feel for the game. Love the rumble in the controller (outstanding feature) and the handling was really great.

My first impression of the controller a few weeks ago was rather negative, but my second go round was much better. Perhaps it was because I didn't get to play a game the first time. The responsiveness, alignment of the sticks and buttons felt quite natural. Both the DS4 and One controllers have stepped it up IMO.

I've been getting all my Xbone patches while in standby mode. No problems here.

Saw those. An alpha just 2 months before launch? For an online only game. That's insane, hope the launch isn't another EA clusterf@cks special.

Received my Gamefly rental of Knack today. It's no Super Mario 3D World in terms of level design, but it's a pretty fun game! And the story is humorous and entertaining. Graphically, it looks really good and it controls quite well. Playing on the normal difficulty, I've died many times, but a lot of it is trial and error. Overall, I'll get my money's worth. At this point, I don't see why it's gotten such mediocre reviews.

Edit: Eh, on second thought, it's a bit repetitive for my tastes. Think I'll send er back and hopefully get Tomb Raider.

Personally I don't put a lot of stock in that. Different strokes for different folks. I'm ps4 all the way but my reasons vary drastically from others.
I'm strictly sports gaming and baseball in particular so wherever "The Show" is at that's where I was going. If down the road a baseball title comes out exclusive to the Bone,that wows me I'll bite. But my circumstance differs from most in here as most are younger than myself,have kids,an interact with the apps for tv and gaming and such that don't interest me.
To me pitting one vs. the other is trivial. Out of the box I think both systems and their games are head and shoulders above the previous launch systems,and each system offers something for everyone. Like anything else,do your homework whether its lcd v. plasma , or this sound system v. that system...and select what fits you (and your family needs) if that be the case,and just enjoy!!

You act as if this "alpha" was anything other than marketing ploy to remind everyone what awesome game was going to the Xbox in March. I think they knew fully what was going to happen. They are creating a sense of craving for those that did not get into the "alpha."

Edit: It looks like IGN also took the videos down. All that's left is people wishing they were in the beta. Mission accomplished.

More than likely they will lose their beta privileges. Contrary to popular opinion some companies do take this pretty seriously. Seems everyone wants to be "first" with videos and what not these days.

As they should lose their beta privileges and have their accounts suspended. They signed a confidentiality agreement and didn't adhere to it. I viewed the video for about a minute but the stream quality was rather poor and didn't seem like a fair judge of the game anyways. It does seem the overall majority is quite happy with it, so that's a great sign.
