Is that proof that their team is being carried by the Power Play? I'd say so.
Losing 8-0 will usually have that effect on the +/- this early in the season. And Belak's right where he should be (well, where he should be is probably in the AHL or ECHL). I would also say that having a healthy power play is nothing to be ashamed of, especially with today's NHL.
It's no secret that the Leafs' defence is amongst the bottom feeders in the league. With a top six of McCabe, Kaberle, Klee, Khavonov, Belak, and Berg it's no wonder why the Leafs' +/- is so terrible. The only real defensive defenceman of the bunch is probably Klee and he's clipping along at -1.

That's too bad. But you knew he was loopy when he crashed into his own player while trying to skate off the ice after the hit.
Hey, at least the virtual Primeau is still a stud: He scored four goals for me last night in a game of NHL 2K6.
Take care,

The thing is, after the hit, he finished that game at Montreal. He also played in games against Florida and Carolina before he realized something wasn't right.
He's going to be an ex-hockey player if he gets one or two more bad hits to the head. This latest concussion is extremely annoying because Primeau was elbowed in the chin away from the puck right in front of the referee by the Montreal scumbag Perezhogin. No penalty was called. It was the same guy who almost knocked an AHL player's head off with a baseball stlye swing of his stick a year or so back.
Some of the refereeing this year has been worse than terrible. Hatcher got called for tripping an Ottawa player near the end of Sunday's game when he was four feet away and the Ottawa player simply fell over. I just hope these refs are getting the treatment from their supervisors after making shocking mistakes like these.
It didn't look that bad. He just had Fisher push a forward over him. At least Ozzie is a very capable backup, or starter.
Boy has Khabibulin been the biggest bust this year or what? The Hawks gave him the biggest contract of all the free agents out there and he has not looked good at all, repeatedly letting in very soft goals.
And the Wings still have the #1 offense in the league. Not bad for a bunch of old farts .

Let's put this start to the Wings season in perspective...
Granted, they're winning the games they should, BUT 7 of their 13 games have been against the bottom feeders in the league who also happen to be in the same division (St. Louis, Columbus, and Chicago). Those three teams also feature 3 of the worst offenses and defenses. 34 of the Wings' 53 goals have come in those 7 games.
I think this is the major reason why some aren't buying into the hype quite yet. With the new schedule format, there isn't a team in the league that will possibly benefit from it more than the Wings. The Presidents Trophy is all but gift wrapped.
I don't care who the Wings are beating, the fact they are winning and look damn good doing so is good enough for me. I am a Packer fan. I need the Wings!
laurenskye I got nothing but love for our Wings bro. Look's like we'll just have to wait until the playoffs for the boys to get any respect. Ozzy made some great saves last night. The goaltending has been great no matter who's putting the puck on net.
I was telling PK the same thing you said about
Khabibulin. Shannie and Williams made him look bad last night. It wasn't lost on the OLN team. They dogged him pretty good.

No doubt, JD. Great teams win the games they should win, and that's exactly what the Wings are doing...and convincingly too.
I believe the Wings are for real. I'm just simply providing "reasons" as to why some might not buy into the hype just yet.

No doubt man. I'll be the first to admit they played some weak teams so your points were well taken.
I really love watching them skate. The young guns are getting some important ice time and they have 2 good net minders. Things are good in Hockeytown for the moment.
Three straight wins for the Oil! Best game of their season last night in the 5-1 beatdown of Columbus. My boy Georges Laraque easily had his best game of the season.
But Peca looked pretty wobbly after taking that fierce open-ice hit from Nash. Minor concussion.
A real test Thursday at Detroit. Jack-diggity, Laurenskye, let's get it on!
Take care,
PK

I thought the Blue Jackets were supposed to be halfway decent this year? A couple preseason publications I read picked them to make the playoffs.
I've only seen a few of their games so far this year, including a couple of those whoopings by the Red Wings and last night's loss to Edmonton, but it's gotten to the point where I'm afraid to watch them, every time I do they get crushed.
I know they missed Nash, but I didn't think they'd be this bad without him.
lexbur wrote:I know they missed Nash, but I didn't think they'd be this bad without him.
They had Nash last night and still got whipped!
I think Foote is a lot like Pronger, really struggling with the rules of the "new NHL." Both guys used their sticks and bodies a lot to clear creases and play defense, cross-checking and interfering like mofos to compensate for their lack of speed and agility. They can't do that any more, so they're really having a tough time.
Zherdev looks lost this year, too. I feel bad for Denis. He reminds me of the goalie in "Slap Shot," having delusional tremors because he's seeing so much rubber each game.
Take care,
PK

It was soooo damn hard not to tell you the score last night when we were talking. Man the 3rd period was killer.
Yeah, they looked really good. My boy Big Georges had a great game. Hopefully the fourth line will get more ice time now.
The nice thing about the Oil is that it doesn't depend on one or two star lines for production. Ryan Smyth is arguably the only star even though Hemsky, Horcoff and Torres are scoring quite a bit.

Hmmm, I was away for a bit on business in Asia and here I am finding out that M. Cooke is out indefinetely with a jaw fracture that he suffered in a damn practice. Cloutier injured with a concussion last weekend, is this the beginning of injuries season? Having said that, good teams should move on, injuries or not.

Just catching up with the highlights with my Tivo for the last few games, and what a HIT that was, Nash sure made Peca feel what its like to be on the receiving end. Boom. With the red line gone, we should see more players napping in the neutral zone while admiring or awaiting a pass.
Now if you're in a Hockey pool, why just not draw any name of the SENS awesome offense, can't go wrong 10-4, WOW.
Two games I'll be watching today: TPA-OTT and EDM-DET, should be good.
Ottawa is frightening. Downright scary. The team was clicking without Havlat, then he scores four in his first game back from suspension. The first goal was a lite version of Spezza's move to Montreal in OT about 10 days ago.
Havlat ... Spezza ... Heatley ... Alfie -- it's almost criminal that there's this much offensive talent on one team.
After watching the Sabres last night, I'm not so sure Biron is the answer to the Oilers' goaltending woes. Biron looked HORRIBLE, letting in two goals short side simply because he didn't press his pad against the pipe. That's only the first thing pee-wee goalies are taught, no?
Really looking forward to the Oil-Wings tonight. But if you're not a big hockey fan and Ottawa is playing on your local affiliate or OLN, tune in. Guaranteed entertainment.
Take care,
PK

Hey, news flash: McGrattan lost a fight last night!
Hard to believe, but Ottawa's McGrattan lost a fight last night to an unlikely foe, Gaustad of the Sabres.
McGrattan beat Sabres tough guy Peters in the first period, and I figured Gaustad was a dead man when he and McGrattan squared up in the third. Gaustad is a big kid who played for Rochester in the AHL last year. Chippy, cheap, big mouth, but I never really saw him much as a fighter, at least not against Syracuse.
But damn, the kid put McGrattan to his knees with two punches after they exchanged blows. A good scrap, as was the McGrattan-Peters fight in the first.
Take care,
PK
