Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
After their lackluster performance last week, City was the better team tonight, they just seemed to be a step ahead of the Reds. Led by Kompany, they looked impenetrable on D even though Carroll was invisible all night long. Barry's expulsion was excessive for his pointless challenge. Gerrard brought back some energy but they are obviously going to miss Suarez's skills up front. The pressure to win goes back to ManU now.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
Newcastle up on ManU 1-0 at halftime. Ba with yet another goal, and man was it fantastic. The guy is pure magic. f***in refs failed to give Newcastle a penalty kick on a clear penalty by ManU in the box. Even the announcers were baffled. Seems to happen a lot when we play ManU.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
I dunno, toon - Howard Webb usually plays really well for United but with you guys up 2-0 he'll probably get the hairdryer treatment from Fergie at full time.
In other news.....Tim Howard has now outscored Stewart Downing and Dirk Kuyt.
EDIT: Phil Jones you f'ing beauty! lol

What an awesome 3-0 victory over Manu. Very happy about today's result.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
Tim Howard is also only one goal behind Torres.

That makes two of us, dude! HOWAY THE LADS!toonarmy wrote:What an awesome 3-0 victory over Manu. Very happy about today's result.
Ba made Man U's back four look old and slow, and Newcastle's back four was exceptionally cohesive -- especially Coloccini. Krul never was challenged that sternly other than when Simpson was forced to make a lovely goal-line save against his former team.
Gorgeous free kick by Cabaye on the second goal.
I still think the Magpies can earn a Europa League spot if everyone stays healthy.

I thought it was pretty cool that the fans started chanting "USA! USA!" toward the end of the celebration of Howard's goal. The US may not have a lot of players in the BPL, but those who are there seem to be embraced by the fans nicely. Very cool moment for Howard.

Only four keepers have scored goals during the Premier League era. Two are American: Howard and Brad Friedel. Omar Gonzalez killed his knee during the first day of his loan at Nuremberg. He may have factored into the US plans this summer, but not now.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
And both Howard and Friedel scored in losing efforts, which is even more bizarre.pk500 wrote:Only four keepers have scored goals during the Premier League era. Friedel's goal was a little more joyous.

It'll be interesting to see how City performs this week without the services of Y. Toure and key attackers like Dzeko and Balotelli battling with injuries. They have to free some money, like getting rid of Tevez ASAP if they want to be buyers in the market but Mancini's hands may be tied for this one.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
Apparently John Terry was in the crowd at Anfield last night.

Unbelievable isnt it Macca. What do these morons think? oh i can go to a match and just hurl abuse at players from point blank range.
Do they not realize how stupid they look when they are doing the tosser gesture or clearly dropping f bombs i mean the camera is right on you .
Never understood it. Ive never hated a team or player that much to do that.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
As if there was any doubt, Lionel Messi was nominated "Footballer for the year" for the 3rd consecutive year.
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
Tierry Henry just scored for Aresenal. By the way, is anyone getting an XBOX on launch?
Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
Messi's Ballon d'Or is very deserving, and he won it by a landslide over Ronaldo. Pep was very deserving of coach of the year as well. It's a total joy to watch Messi play. The crazy thing is that he's still only 24 years of age with room to improve. If he stays relatively healthy there is no telling what the little phenom will accomplish.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread, 11/12
Bit of a snoozer in the first leg of the Carling Cup semis. Liverpool had all the attacking dynamism of a mid-50s Soviet side and City clearly lacked the creativity of Silva up front. I think City probably deserved an equalizer in the second half. Liverpool were fortunate in that James Milner was apparently playing without the aid of corrective eye-wear. Hart was huge again during those early moments when Liverpool had an attacking pulse.
I think Daglish got his tactics right by sitting back, as with Lucas already hurt, Spearing going out and Gerrard not match-fit, there was little kindling in the midfield for sustained pressure. Still, if Benitez had run the game that way the back pages would've been awash in pathos about his negative football.
