Re: NCAA Football 12
I still have problems passing over the middle. You have to lob it just right to make the completion but that is sort of hard for me too.
I disagree that PA works this year. It's a little better but I still get sacked 8/10 times when doing it. The defense is already in the backfield once the passing icons pop up.
I like that screen passes are more difficult this year. It depends how set your QB is once he makes that quick pass.

Agree. The PA takes too long to develop.Lancer wrote:I still have problems passing over the middle. You have to lob it just right to make the completion but that is sort of hard for me too.

And the CBs are able to go around WRs far to easy. If you have a hook or a comeback route, it's frustrating to see the DB skate around your defender for an INT.
Re: NCAA Football 12
PA passes depend very heavily on deception. If you haven't made the D believe you can run, PA will never work. That's the way it should be. I've only had success with the PA after a couple of good gains on the ground, or at least after running the ball down after down, and making them creep up. I have had great success with PA after I've set it up good, but get completely shut down if I don't have a competent ground game.
This year's game is far more cerebral than past iterations, IMO. You really have to, well, 'play football', and think like a coach. I've already played this one more than I ever did the previous ones, as I'd get bored pretty quickly. Not so with 12.

Re: NCAA Football 12
Agreed. I shred a defense with the PA--but I don't even try to pull out a Play Action until I've established a good ground game. I've had wide open guys from play action. But if you see the OLB showing blitz and you're running a PA, you have a problem. You HAVE to use the line shift to pick up that side in that case, or you're dead. Or audible out of it.
But with regards to the pump fake--yes, use them if possible. I wanted to take a video of a play and post it, but I forgot about it after the game. I had a slot receiver on the left side running a skinny post, while my tight end ran a flag route on the other side of the field in a 3WR 1TE set last game. I came out and see the defense in a cover 1, so I HAD to use it.
As soon as my TE made his break on the flag route, I flicked the R stick toward him, and I watched the safety take a full step to the right before attempting to re-set himself. By then, it was way too late--I lasered the skinny post about 8 feet to the left of him, and my wideout blazed by him for a 45 yard touchdown before he could get himself re-oriented.
I've had it work several times in my games so far--linebackers and defensive backs alike seem to try to jump the route if you pump fake it, so I'd use it if I were you.

Re: NCAA Football 12
Hmm... I get plenty of time on PA most of the time. There are a few instances where I get tackled right as I fake the handoff, but those are not happening more than 10-20% of the time. When I see a blitz coming I tend to audible out of PA, so maybe that is the reason I am seeing plenty of time to pass. Also, I almost always dump the ball off to a receiver on a short route if I am feeling quick pressure.
The middle of the field is where I make my money this year. In the past I used to focus on the sides more. I hate ints more than Marinovich's dad so I go to great lengths to avoid them. I have had two 3-int games, both of which involved secondary players with high ratings. I've started going into the ratings before each game and finding out which CBs/safeties are rated highly, because ratings do make a difference in this game. For example, higher rated players are more likely to step in on an out pattern and get an int. I will challenge really good dbs across the middle but I stay away from them on the outside. I have learned what's risky and what's safe. I get so pissed at myself when I make a risky pass and throw an int that I knew was a low pct play on my part. There is so much more variety now in how the CPU dbs behave that it can become almost a cat/mouse type situation over the course of a game. This is the first EA football game I've ever played where I've had a lot of instances in which the CPU made it feel like I was playing a human. The programmers did a fantastic job.

Re: NCAA Football 12
Ditto. Last night I stuck it to #5 Ohio State 24-10, and I threw an INT that could have turned the tide. I just so badly wanted to try to beat the defender on a post with my tight end because the safety was doubling the outside receiver, so I felt there was a play there to be made. However, I DIDN'T notice it was a defensive back covering my tight end, and not a linebacker. Trying to throw a nice touch pass on a post with a cornerback step for step is a bad idea. Most of my picks are stuff like that. Bad decisions or things I didn't notice.
However, the one thing that's started to bug me so far is I can't seem to really nail those down the field 1 on 1 plays. I could see if they were 30%--30% caught, 30% missed/defended, and 30% picked. But right now, even if I have 1 on 1 down the sideline with no safety help, I'm seeing like 80% picked and 10% caught or defended. The corners are just far too good at playing the the ball in the air against an AI receiver, I think. When I watch replays, I see my guys acting like the corner doesn't even have position on him, like the ball's going to just fall into his lap instead of into the leaping corner's arms right in front of him. That's the only piece of the AI that I have been frustrated with so far. When I'm playing a dynasty or something where I can control receivers it's a non-issue. But in RTG it sucks because I get a slew of picks that were, percentage-wise, good decisions. A singled up receiver down the field isn't an 80% turnover rate in my opinion.

Re: NCAA Football 12
There is a pretty damn huge bug that is basically involved with named/edited rosters causing player tendencies to get screwed up, I.E Denard Robinson when named or edited changes to balanced instead of a scrambling QB and completely changes the way he plays (cpu) in game.
Looks like I'm shelving this game until the next patch.
Sucks for the roster makers too.. ugh.

Do you have any more specifics? People seem to be enjoying the game a lot v CPU around here so maybe it's a very minor bug?MizzouRah wrote:There is a pretty damn huge bug that is basically involved with named/edited rosters causing player tendencies to get screwed up, I.E Denard Robinson when named or edited changes to balanced instead of a scrambling QB and completely changes the way he plays (cpu) in game.

Re: NCAA Football 12
Yeah I haven't noticed anything like that at all. Then again, I don't follow college football NEARLY as much as the NFL, so while I *think* Denard Robinson is that QB for Michigan, I wouldn't know from playing him that he's supposed to be scrambling and is, instead, standing around like Peyton Manning. I just know that some QB's did indeed take off on me and run like mad and others didn't.
So I could be enjoying it vs. the CPU because I'm ignorant

When you played me Robinson was standing around like a human pinata and lobbing balls up for grabs.TCrouch wrote:Yeah I haven't noticed anything like that at all. Thats why I wouldnt know what the cpu Robinson is doing cause I am always misusing him. Though I was able, during a couple of moments of rare clarity during my dynasty, to run off a couple of long TD run keeping it in DR's hands on the option.
Re: NCAA Football 12
Yeah, but that was an aberration. How many games have we played over the years where you end up giving away the football like that? Not many. Last ones I recall, you kept out-guessing me and knowing exactly where I wanted to go on any given play. So let's just chalk that one up to "haven't played in 2 years" new game smell

Re: NCAA Football 12
My honeymoon period is ending w/ this game.
It's a good game, but it's just giving me the same experience now from last year.
But I think the biggest thing that is pissing me off is the bugs and crashes.
I went over to OS and I can't believe EA Staff is asking OS readers to help debug a game crash when it says PRESS START! Come on, that is totally inexcusable! How do you test a game and have it crash at the title screen.
I really enjoy RTG, but every other game crashes on me. And it' at the worst time right when the game ends, and they show the hour long replays, right after that it sometimes crashes. So you play a whole game just to have it crash.
Really frustrated!

Sounds to me like you got a bad disc, as I haven't had anything problematic other than some server issues. No freezes, no crashes. What system do you have it for?

Re: NCAA Football 12
EA is recommending you delete any named rosters and go back to the default rosters until they fix an issue with player tendencies that change anytime a player is edited, this includes changing his name.
You can have the game rename rosters, however.
It's a shame sports games always come out so early.. they really need to be tested.

Thanks Mizzu
Checked OS - EA confirmed that named rosters is causing all the problems, even w/ the game play - check out this thread, amazing how this game got released :

Christian McLeod has confirmed the NCAA Football 12 roster glitch will be addressed in an upcoming patch. The fix for now? Are you ready for this? Delete your named roster file.
What are the problems you ask? Here are just a few comments from the OS community.
One of the NCAA Football 12 Software Engineer's posted this topic (roster related), in hopes to get some things resolved.

When you edit the name of a scrambling QB it changes them to balanced and editing a balanced QB changes them to scrambling. I noticed when i downloaded a roster with names that Denard Robinson was shown as a balanced QB so i went back to the default roster and he was back to a scrambler. So i played a game with the named roster and he attempted zero scrambles. I then played a game with the default roster and he scrambled five times in the first two drives.

I seen this last week when I downloaded Fairdale Kings rosters for the 360. It just isn't the QBs tendancy that changes, it is also the pass rusher, coverage guys, hard hitters.
Everybody tendancy description changes......
I noticed it also effected the Kick off and punt returns for the CPU. And effected the punt blocking the user. With no names, I was able to return punts back for a TD sometimes with a good enough returner.
With names, the gunners get down the field super fast like they did in NCAA 11.
With out names, the CPU was able to return punts and kick offs back for TDs on me. With names, their blocking is non existent and the cpu have a hard time making it to the 30 yard line on kick offs and on Punt returns they get 3 yards now, my gunners get down the field so fast now I be right on top of them as soon as they catch the ball.
So as it stands, no names seem to give the better game play.
Being that other players tendancies have changed, I noticed some things.
1. LBs get a lot of tips and INTs on named rosters, even when they aren't in position to do so.
2. Safeties who suppose to be heavy hitters, turn into coverage guys and Intercept passes they normally wouldn't.
3. WRs get off the line quicker on named rosters and they hit stick tackle people on Ints. I had intercepted a pass and a WR hit sticked me.
4. Thomas with his new found strength is now more likely to keep the ball on read option plays. More like 90% of the time now. This was the same way in NCAA 11 when you made a QB's strength too high.
5. DEs don't generate a pass rush on named rosters like they do on non named rosters.
Now I am REALLY glad I didn't delete the default roster. I will have that to play until they fixed the name rosters issue.
Way too many players to edit get them back to what they suppose to be tendancy wise. Which is another thing, with the work around even though they back to their correct tendancy, their ratings will be out of whack.
Good players will be made weaker, weaker bad players will be made stronger.

Same issue with no patch.
Also messed around, it changes the tendency for every single player. Im thinking that the rosters will have to be named again if this is patched.
How can they patch it to go in reverse and correct tendencies on already named rosters?
Looks like a more realistic patch is a fix to keep it from changing for future named rosters.

Re: NCAA Football 12
I'm finally almost done with my sr season in rtg. Hopefully I can win the elusive Heisman in my last year. Shattering records and winning national championships has not impressed the voters yet so I'm thinking about sending some hookers and booze to them this year before the voting.
A couple minor things that are bothering me after well over 50 games played now. First, wtf is up with the quasimodo posture of the players after each play and when getting back to the line of scrimmage during hurry up offense? It was really pronounced when I was playing defense in RTG. I know, a minor quibble, but s*** looks ridiculous. Second, during rainy games you would think it was raining wd40. The receivers slip waaaaaay too much to the point it is ridiculous. Also, on average I see far too many fumbles in rainy games. Some games are fine, but some are a complete fumble fest for both teams.

Ya, good post Toon.
I pretty much done w/ this game now, especially if I have to wait for EA to fix the roster bug and freezes by Aug 14. They got my money so I guess it wont' hurt them, but I can't support a half assed bug filled game they put out.
Hey another thing, why are all the NCAA records in the game all messed up. I had a run of 70 yards with my RB in one game, and it popped up that it's a new NCAA all time record, lol. That the previous record was 60 some yards. And another time, I ran a punt for 50 some yards, and it says it's a record, the old record was 40. LOL, wtf is that s*** ea!

Apparently, the roster bug also affects incoming recruits as it changes their tendency after they are signed and placed on your team.
They need to fix this ASAP.

LOL, ASAP. ya to EA, ASAP means Aug 14th. Or that may be just to fix the naming rosters bug, the other stuff may be never.
