JackB1 wrote:Anyone tried the "My Player" mode yet? It's kind of fun so far. I tried it as a shortstop. One of the goals was "get ahead in the count". How do you do that if the pitcher throws strikes? Kind of weird. Otherwise its a fun pick up and play mode when you don't want to play a full game.
I started one as a Pitcher. Pretty cool. Despite choosing being a "Starter", my 1st game they threw me in to close the game with a 1 run lead. I blew it!! Been starting ever since. Played more of it than I thought it would.
The only two issues I wish they would fix immediately: 1. more errors (barely seen ANY & seems to be no slider) 2. Infield arms are lasers & crazy accurate.
I hear ya about the laser arms. Hopefully someone will do a global edit and post their updated rosters for everyone to download. The whole game in general seems to run quickly. The nice thing is with "Hurry Up Baseball" checked, you can wiz thru a whole game in less than an hour
wow.....the lack of discussion on this game is deafening. Looks like only 4-5 of us here are playing this one. Maybe we are just too busy having fun with it to post? Not sure why so little chatter on this game, but I am definitely impressed with it and look forward to each session with it. Just an all around FUN title IMO.

It's probably cause we're all waiting to get the OK from DB.
Still having a blast playing the game. Maybe there's something to the old adage, no news is good news.
I'm enjoying it. I just haven't had much time to play this week.
Nothing so far has hit me as a killer, but maybe I haven't played enough to find anything...... (not that i'm cynical about 2k or anything!)
I will say I started hitting the ball better when i changed the height of the default batting cam by one up, as I found it too low before.
And I'm not sure why OS folks are complaining about the lack of extra base hits, as they seem to happen a lot in my games, or maybe i just suck? They talk of downing the fielder speed, but I find my guys move slow enough out there! Maybe it's just Elijah Dukes.,......

Well I really enjoy the Show, but this year really feels more like last year than any version I've played.
That's definitely true. If someone isn't a HUGE baseball fan, there isn't really much of a reason to upgrade from 09 to 10. In fact, I've seen a few more bugs this year so far than in the past. It's still the best baseball game ever made, but not leaps and bounds better than last year and I can totally understand if someone is bored by the franchise and switches over to 2k10.
At what point does the Show completely overhaul their engine...I don't know. I'm pretty sure they don't want to mess with a successful engine. For me being a ridiculously huge baseball fan, I appreciate the little stuff in 10 that 2k doesn't have. Pitching motions for guys like Tommy Hanson and Jair Jurrjens...faces of bench players like Jordan Schaefer, Matt Diaz, Gregor Blanco, etc. and first time starter Martin Prado. That stuff just shows the attention to detail that the Show has over 2k. I'll deal with the "been there done that" feel of it so that I get that immersion...but I can totally dig how people want change and find 2k fun...because it really is a fun game. There are just too many little things that make it almost impossible to play over and over again for me.

Okay...everyone has permission to love 2k now.
I think u see that same thing the NBA games (and other sports games in general). Three+ straight years of any good game starts to feel like minor upgrades (regardless of how solid the game is) & the competition starts looking good as a change of pace. It's cool to learn new controls, diff announcers, diff 'bonus' modes, etc... I remember some of the NHL games on the 1st xbox were great, but so similar each year, it kind of became boring.

I would agree. Toying with a successful engine could be risky and I posted earlier that unless you don't have 09, this year's version was not necessarily a 'must' buy. Haven't tried catcher mode yet though and I really look forward to that.
I find it harder to pitch on AS using the meter this year and have gone to classic. I left my hitting at AS and thinking about switching to veteran for pitching as I am about to start a season.
One thing I am growing tired of though, is the commentating department. Vasgersian and Soup Campell hit the mark, calling your plays and analyzing performance. However, Hudler annoys me. The rest of the audio is just fine. The in park sound effects are true to the sport, from the cheering fans to the crack of the bat, all that is well done and the background music isn't bad either.
The minor hitches that I've noticed are with the outfield and running department but improved once I switched back to manual.

Yeah, that's probably true, but after playing the "new" game for a few games/weeks, ultimately I end up going back to the tried and true games that know what they are doing and they do it right (for the most part of course). Live felt great for the first couple weeks...but what am I playing now? 2K. Ultimately it comes down to simulating the sport and usually the game that's been doing it consistently for the longest...gets it right.
Unfortunately, this game still has some of the same problems as previous games in the series - low scoring. A low scoring game should be a treat - tight fingered and filled with managing decisions. Part of the problem is the starter energy bug where you wear down the AI starter and suddenly he is back at 99 energy (see OS for bug details) but part of it is that the AI arms and lack of errors lead to a ton of rally ending double plays.
I played a lot of games and had fun, but at this point I am starting to play other games and waiting for the patch.
Hard to gather a lot from the demo, which is why I've held off from commenting. I'm disappointed there's no commentary. I will say from what little I've played, the game sure looks nicer than it has in the last couple years. The animations are much improved and the fielding aspect is indeed enjoyable to control. I wouldn't say it's overly more responsive than The Show, but maybe just slightly. I can't get the hang of the pitching. I'm just not a fan at this point, likely because I really don't understand it. I feel like I'm tracing the pitches and I'm nowhere near as precise as I should be. Hitting is decent, but I need more time to establish an opinion. I could see where I may prefer it to the buttons.
In any event, I'll have to rent this game and see how things play out. I'm more optimistic about where the series is headed.

I think hitting would be to easy if it wasn't there.
Try increasing the pitch speed...it helps me a ton.
I have mine at 85.
It does feel sweet when I get it right.
I'll try that piggy..thanks.
Also, is it my imagination or do you swing faster with the power swing?
Also, when power swinging, can you just pull back while waiting for the pitch or do you have to go down and up in rythym?
I also have a question about "My Player". When adding skill points, if you go past the line being full, it seems to go back to the beggining??? ARe you supposed to just add until the line if maxed out and then stop?
I am having a blast with this game. I love being able to just jump in and play todays actual games. I think its pretty cool also that the announcers will mention how the teams did the day before in the real world, thats very cool stuff.
The gameplay is a definite improvement for me over last year, and it certainly seems to play a good game of ball. I'm happy I got both this and The Show, because they fill different roles for me.

The top line is the actual rating your player has in that category. The line immediately below is how many skill points you need to increase the rating in that category a single rating point.
You can either apply skill points a single point at a time using the left stick, or you can use the RB button to increase it one full rating point (if you have enough skill points to increase it the whole way). Most categories are around 120-140 skill points to increase your player's rating a single rating point.

That's not what I mean. If you keep increasing the line past the point where it's full, it goes back the the "beginning". Does than mean I shouldn't go past full? In other words, if I increase it past full and keep going about halfway, will that increase that skill 1.5 points?

I wouldn't think so, simply because the rating doesnt change until you max it out. I have been using just the RB button to apply points. I think the bottom line is just a visual so you can see how close you are to increasing you rating, cause sometimes you will not have enough points to fully max it out to increase the rating.

Since I primarily play franchise and that stuff matters to me I think I will pass. However I really dug the presentation and stats call outs etc.
And that's only the second page of complaints. My list is a little longer now that I played it for a few days over the weekend. Per usual, the Show is a significantly better game. As I expected, the newness wears off pretty quick and the warts show up. The Show is the same way though as there are quite a few things that are bothering me this year that didn't last year. So maybe I didn't notice them before, or whatever, but neither is perfect, the Show is just significantly less imperfect. Get it? LOL
