NHL Playoffs 09. Drop The Puck.

Feanor, I see where you're coming from. I mentioned incidental contact because Biron deflected the puck and Crosby went right after it in the crease, so in my mind he didn't initiate the contact. But whether that goal should or shouldn't have counted, I think the Flyers should worry more about where they stand in the series.
I hope I'm wrong, but I think the Flyers are f**ked. As soon as they blew home ice in game 82, I told my wife I wish I could have bet a couple of hundred bucks on the Pens to win the series.
Sports betting is legal back home in NZ, but the TAB there don't let American residents set up internet accounts, unfortunately.

As I've said before, I don't think the Flyers can win 3 in a row on the Penguins, particularly when they've played pretty well the last 3 and only gotten one win. At some point the Pens are due to control a game, and it's unlikely Biron will steal it as Fluery stole game 4.
That said, I think the Flyers will probably win tonight. Even though they are on the road, they have nothing to lose at this point and I think they feel they don't deserve to be down 3-1, which I expect to lead to 'loose' but purposeful play.
At this point I'd be thrilled if the Flyers just made it a 7 game series, as that would mean I get to see one more playoff victory in person this season.

With the flap this week about the trash talk between Chicago's Burish and Calgary's Iginla in Game 3, it's only fitting that this CLASSIC NHL trash talk video is posted. Definitely NSFW:

Right now I think the Bruins and Pens are poised to do the most damage in the playoffs. Neither team has played extremely well, yet both teams are winning. The Bruins PP has not clicked as consistently as it did in the regular season but that didn't matter at all against the Habs. They are a very deep team that can replace injuries at any position and not lose a whole lot. They have shown that all season long with the young guys stepping up when need be and getting the job done. I am amazed at how they have a great balance of both skill and grit.
The Pens are also scary since they are still trying to hit their full stride. They have three very tough lines. The Malkin line has been crap in the playoffs since Sykora can't seem to do much right thus far. Look out if that line starts playing to potential! That team is set to erupt at any moment. I know they had a crap season most of the way through, but this is a team that has not yet peaked as far as I'm concerned. The Pens would be my underdog to go to the finals as far as seeds in the lower 5 go.
In the West, I agree about Vancouver. They are playing some really hard-nosed hockey at the moment. I don't think they have what it takes to get to the finals, but I have enjoyed watching them play. If the Sharks can get past the first round (big IF) they obviously can be a force to reckon with since they have so much talent. Overall, I still think it will be the Wings making it to the finals in the West. One thing is for sure, this has been an entertaining first round and things will only get better in the later rounds. My life is pretty much revolving around work and hockey this month.

I've caught a few games before at Wayne Gretzky's. Tons of TV's tuned to hockey, a very cool collection of Gretz memorabilia.greggsand wrote:I'm going to Toronto next week. Where's "the" bar to watch hockey there?

Here's a story on the supposed top 10 sports bars in TO. Gretzky's is on the list:

I'm sure some of the TO residents here can give you other tips, too.

Man, what a tough way for Columbus to be swept tonight -- losing on a late PP goal by Detroit after a too many men on the ice penalty.
Chimera came off the bench and played the puck when the Columbus player had his leg up to prepare to lift it over the dasher, a stride away from the bench. I'm all for strict enforcement, but that seemed ticky-tack as hell in a 5-5 game with less than two minutes remaining.
But I suppose the goal just put the Jackets and their fans out of their misery. No way in anyone's lifetime Columbus was going to win this series, even if it won tonight.
Take care,
PK

Are you staying in the downtown core? Wayne Gretzky's bar is cool, 'Beer Market', 'Beer Bistro'. When I go there I stay at the Hilton and those places are within walking distance. Make sure you check the 'Hall of Fame' too.greggsand wrote:I'm going to Toronto next week. Where's "the" bar to watch hockey there?
Heartbreaker for CBJ. And they we playing with enough conviction to take it to the Wings tonight, they never gave up despite being down by two goals twice and that awesome save by S. Mason on J. Franzen when the game was still 5-5, I thought was going to be the turning point.pk500 wrote:Man, what a tough way for Columbus to be swept tonight -- losing on a late PP goal by Detroit after a too many men on the ice penalty
Sharks look toast too, they shut down their QB in D. Boyle while the forwards continue to disappear at this time of the year and the Ducks just plain dominated this game tonight. When J. Roenick is the only one that shows some kind of emotion, you know that SJ is in trouble. Like WAS, I think they may still get another game perhaps two, but ANA looks too strong. How about J. Hiller?
