PC just got a patch that addresses the following. Hopefully it will show up soon for 360, especially for bullet points #1 and #3:
■Care Package, Emergency Airdrop, and Sentry Gun marker grenades sprint speed normalized
■Sentry Guns: Improved placement detection, preventing cases of Sentry Guns inside geometry
■Model 1887: Bling using Akimbo and FMJ combination now has same range and damage as non-Bling Model 1887s
■Improved player collision removing cases of getting into geometry and 'elevators'
■Mouse latency tweaks for more mouse movement consistency
■Fixes to prevent various texture and XP hacks

Agree 100%, but I doubt that will ever happen. Whereas with the 1887's you could see they were clearly 'unbalanced' and not being used as intended, the ability to run around knifing was more an unfortunate design decision.Brando70 wrote:I wish they would tone down Commando Pro and melee attacks in general, the way they did with the Akimbo 1887s. In fact, if it was up to me, I would remove Marathon, Lightweight, Commando and Akimbo from the game entirely, as sprinting around the battlefield double fisting guns and knifing people seems totally against the spirit of this game, but alas...
Yeah, I think too many players enjoy playing in that manner for IW to seriously consider changing it. I personally don't think Marathon is that abhorrent of a perk, though, if not paired up with the others that you mention.Naples39 wrote: Agree 100%, but I doubt that will ever happen. On another note, while it was always my game mode of choice anyway, I *only* play team deathmatch now. That's what most of the public is really playing on every other mode anyway, so it's nice to play a mode where it feels like everyone is playing the same game.
The thing about Commando Pro is that it takes the crappiest design decision that they made and amplifies it exponentially.
I've had more and more rooms lately with the knife-only assholes, which is why I've done the opposite of Web. I'm only playing Domination now, which seems to have a substantially smaller number of these gimmicky bastards. True, many don't play for the objective points. But that leaves them open for me to grab myself and points are points.

I wish they would create a "knife-free' Team Deathmatch room (and all the dumb stab-perks). It's def the biggest drag of the game. It's ridiculous to see a guy running around the map in hyper-speed.Brando70 wrote:I wish they would tone down Commando Pro and melee attacks in general, the way they did with the Akimbo 1887s. I don't normally use or like the shotguns in this game, but they do wonders against the knife-runners. I had a game last night on Skidrow where I basically just hunted down two of the bastards for the whole match. I used claymores to locate their positions and running patterns, very carefully navigated corners and rooms when the UAV wasn't active or my heartbeat sensor wasn't out, and then blasted them in the face when they did show. It got to the point where they were specifically coming after me (they did their best Flash impressions after I killed them to get back to where I was) but there was little they could do because I made sure I had room and a loaded shotgun waiting for them. Probably one of the most fun matches I've ever played.RobVarak wrote:I've had more and more rooms lately with the knife-only assholes, which is why I've done the opposite of Web.

If the whole world has guns, and all you have is a knife, you *should* be FUBAR. No question. That they sometimes score the highest kill count is simply unacceptable.
I HAAAAAAATE the knives myself. Hate the Speedy Gonzales bastards who employ them. Because it kills the spirit of the game, and turns it into a damned Halo match, or Unreal tourney, rather than anything approaching tactical.
The thing is, they do it to be dipshits. That's their whole M.O.

I think Marathon and Lightweight are great, useful perks for SMG classes, though. I have a Vector loadout with those two perks that works well for the smaller maps like Highrise, without unbalancing the game. I don't even really have a problem with the knifing except how there's no effect on a knifer's ability to move if he's coming toward you and you shoot him. Shotguns do help, but shotguns are often impractical to use all the time.Naples39 wrote:Agree 100%, but I doubt that will ever happen. It seems like Infinity Ward were sloppier with this game than MW1. I am having a lot of fun with MW2, but the exploit/glitch list seems more extensive and annoying.
I don't completely agree with this comment. I know Treyarch f'd up CoD3, but World at War has been sorely underrated, IMO. A great game, offline and online.Nozzleman_216 wrote:I should be rolling over to my 3rd Prestige soon. Only thing I hate about doing it is losing my kill streak rewards. Getting my streaks and not having the nuke is definitely a bummer.
The way I look at it, this game has to last me 2 years until IW does another. So prestige is not too big of a deal. It is safe to say the next Call of Duty will be screwed unless IW does their hand in it.

Wow, after a few weeks away from this game I've played a bit online the last 2 days. Man it was awful.
Seeing more dual 1887's with Bling to counteract the previous nerf, and an absurd amount of emergency airdrop glitching. Of course there's the usual nuke boosting and trolling as well. It's like the announcement that IW was going to patch airdrop and 1887 bugs emboldened people to use them more.
I think I'm not going online again until this patch is live. (what is taking so long anyway? didn't the PC get this patch about a month ago?)

I haven't popped that one in for a few weeks now, and...I just don't really want to. The pace has gotten WAY too fast, really, and I hate breathless-paced shooters. There are too many of what Naples just mentioned, asshats who exploit every damned thing they can possibly exploit, ruining the fun factor for everyone who just wants to play a game to unwind a little.
It may be traded in toward BC2, if the next patch doesn't fix this crap for good...

I can't speak for other modes, but in TDM the pace of the game on any map except Rust is what you want it to be. I play a very slow, deliberate style, moving from cover to cover and building to building. I stay out of confined areas and plant claymores when I'm controlling an area of the map. I routinely have games where I go at least 5-1 kill to death ratio by picking off all of the knuckleheads running around with their shotguns and knives.Teal wrote:The pace has gotten WAY too fast, really, and I hate breathless-paced shooters.

Unfortunately this is the bane of most shooters and why I despise Halo. I can empty clips into some guy and he can b*tch slap me and I die.Teal wrote: I HAAAAAAATE the knives myself. I'm not sure why most shooters over power the melee attack but they all seem too. A knife kill should require a half a dozen stabs to say the least. The melee punch in Halo should push you back and stun you, or knock you down and it takes a second to get up. That is how you should be punished with melee attacks.

I agree with this 100%. Gears of War is the same way. You can empty shotgun blast after shotgun blast into a guy, yet some clown with a pistol slaps you and your down on the ground. Ridiculous.Danimal wrote:I'm not sure why most shooters over power the melee attack but they all seem too. A knife kill should require a half a dozen stabs to say the least. Ironically the melee problem is far greater in COD than in Halo.
Halo doesn't have sprint, nor does it have the lightweight perk making some players extra fast. Halo also does not the commando perk causing players to teleport to inflict insta-death, and melees in Halo are only one hit kills from behind.
It's amazing how far astray COD went with the melee system.

I'm with you,the knuckleheads are more comic relief than anything else.btmmayor wrote:I can't speak for other modes, but in TDM the pace of the game on any map except Rust is what you want it to be. I dunno. If I took a big 'ole commando knife and plunged it into somebody I'm not sure they'd be able to do much else other than die. Sure the sequence happens pretty quickly in MW2 but the result is ultimately the same.Danimal wrote:Unfortunately this is the bane of most shooters and why I despise Halo.
