Any Wii sports game that uses the remote of a special controller has the potential to be very entertaining.
I would love a special tennis racket remote, baseball bat remote, golf club remote. All of those could easily be done and add even more FUN to the Wii Sports type games.

They could do it REALLY easy. Just make a little slot for the Wii controller to slide in...then all you really have to do is make a plastic mold that it will fit in. No electronics even necessary.
Here is a cool article on cnn about how the motion sensitive controllers work. I had no idea they used springs. I would have thought it used mercury somehow to close some circuits.... amazing.
It's not translating your motion to the screen. Rather, it's tracking where the remote is at a certain time and then generating the appropriate precanned animation.
So I don't think for instance if there's a ping pong game, you can hold it the weird way some people do.
Or in a baseball game, try to emulate the signature batting styles of certain players.
If you try to play tennis or bat lefty, will it work? Will it switch the batter around?
I'm sold. As soon as I can find one, I'm in. This sounds like exactly what my hobby needed to keep me interested. Amid all the grumbling about exclusive licenses, microtransactions, and high price tags comes a console that is affordable, innovative, and still looks like it will have games with depth.
It's a great feeling coming to the realization that I can buy a Wii and a 30gb iPod for less than the PS3. Makes selling this combo the wife much easier

Funny you put it that way.
Just read a piece about how the stock market is bidding up Apple's stock recently because the market thinks iPod sales this Holiday season won't be affected by Zune or PS3, the latter because of constrained supplies.
Since the last console launch in 2000-2001, you have these gadgets which cost in the same range as new consoles and cater to the same buyers.
I f*cking hate paying for things with points. If there's any positive, at least Nintendo's are a 1:1 points-to-dollar ratio.
How else can I explain now owning Bonk's Adventure? Already bought the points...might as well use them I'm a sucker for the 'defining' platformers from consoles, even on systems like the TG16 that I never played. But man the music blows.
As a follow-up, I've now played through 3 levels of COD. I'm beginning to settle in to the controls, getting the coordination down, and it's becoming much more enjoyable. I still haven't gotten to the "I'll never go back" point, but I might be slowly progressing in that direction. One thing I do love though, is how the game has leaning mapped to rolling the remote. It is pretty awesome to turn the wiimote sideways and start shooting people as your character peaks his head out.
I also just played some driving parts where you hold the wiimote and nunchuck at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions on a steering wheel. Took a few minutes to get used to, but after moving my closer hands together I was driving fairly efficiently. Not sure I'd want to play a full-on racing game that way, but was kinda neat.

Actually i'm feeling the exact opposite...the Wii is all the sudden the last system I want. I've decided to repurchase a 360. I think Gears of War has sold me on the system.

Quick question for fellow Wii owners. I noticed that my disc slot blue-light never really comes on. It blinks for a second when I power up the console, but other than that is dormant.
In the menu system I've got the option for it to turn on when new WiiConnect24 content arrives, but there obviously hasn't been any of that yet. In addition, I've noticed there is never anyone in the Mii Parade.
Are both of these normal? Or do I have an issue with the light on my unit and/or its connectivity to the net.

Keep those COD impressions coming, this by far is the type of game I'm interested in seeing how the controller possibly enhances the gameplay. Not terribly interested in the "acting out" games at this point.

you laugh at me?" - Del
I also notice the machine stays hot when the light is orange... you have to somehow hold the button down and get it to turn red to get it out of standby mode. I have not figured out how to do this wiith the wiimote.
Anyway, I have been with my wife for 13 years. She spent more time playing video games tonight then in the 13 years combined.
She rated bowling a "10" in the fun factor. She made us bowl 1 more game beyond the one we said we would. Simply amazing.
When I first told her I got a Wii she wasn't that happy about it. She even told me to put it in the back room where all my other systems are. I insisted that it was a family console and that it would be in the living room.
After 5 minutes of Mii'ng herself, the Wii'ng on Bowling, I asked her if we could put it in the back room. She laughed.
BTW, I bowled a 231 in my 3rd game...she bowled a 181. Then in our next game I slipped to 164 and she bowled a 142. I though I mastered it.....LOL..... afraid not.
The potential with the Wii is limitless.
Superb effort Nintendo, thanks for bringing PURE FUN back to video games.
