I've had a marathon as well with NHL 07. I played a couple games online with HipE that were excellent and the rest has been offline in a dynasty with the Penguins.
I've now played at least 30 games of NHL 07 and I can safely state that it is the most fun I've ever had playing a hockey game and it's probably right up there with the most fun I've had playing any game during a 2 week period. I'm using the action camera with no auto zoom and it's so fun to see the goalies and goals. Except for the occassional "cheap" goals, scoring is an incredibly rewarding experience that ranks up there with any sports gaming event. Playing defense isn't quite a fun due some slightly sluggish controls, but it's equally intense. I also really like how there is a distinct difference between home and road games. There are plenty of well-documented warts, but they really aren't bothering me at all.
I'm back to playing on near-default all-star (liked playing with playmaker's sliders but my scores were too low so I went back) with a few tweaks here and there. Between the sliders, goalie and player boosts, and superstar level I should be able to tweak the game enough to make it last. Online play has been very fun as well.
The great news is that if I end up needing a change of pace I can pick up NHL 2K7, probably at a 20-25 ebay discount, later this winter.
If NHL 07 had 2k7's framerate, the game would be near PERFECT. I have that same disconnection with my defense that leads to some goals in 2k7 I wouldn't give up.. I believe it has everything to do with the framerate, and I agree, Madden and NCAA have that same "feeling" to me.
I'm on AS defaults, 10 min periods, except for manual aiming and I find the game good. Of course like pancakes of a year ago in Madden, hits are low for the CPU teams and shots are a bit high, but I can live with that. After winning several practice games, I'm 0-3-0-1 so far in my dynasty and just got whooped in my home opener, 9-2 by Boston. It's great that I can have a 3-2 tight game and then get smoked like that.
Wow, I guess I'll have to give '07 another go. I'm just not feeling this game at all! Horrible spacing, the AI refuses to cycle the puck, and the skating animations are just blah.....what am I missing that others find enjoyable?
Anyways, I'll play again this evening and hope the light turns on for me.

Yeah, I don't get it. It seems to me that people just like to try to justify it to themselves...there is a whole lot of yapping about nothing going on. I guess I just like a sh*tty game. Oh well.

What is that supposed to mean? People take the time to share some thoughts and you make a comment like that just because you don't agree? Sorry if my "yapping" bothers you. I should start double posting it just to piss you off.
Nobody has to justify anything. Most of us have the money to buy any game we want. I seriously doubt we are playing a game we don't really like when we could easily play any game we want just to prove something to you. I certainly wouldn't be averaging about 4 games a day to justify it.

It inaccurate to say the CPU refuces to cycle the puck. They will cycle the puck if you don't give them open shots and play good defense. I actually prefer that the CPU doesn't pass up open shots just to cycle the puck for the sake of cycling (although I agree they sometimes take shots at bad angles). It forces me to play defense.
I tried the different camera angles on 07 and if you use the "classic" one, I find it's the one runs the smoothess without the choppiness as you advance your play. I still prefer the overall Hockey experience on 2K7 and this game would have been perfect if it had EA's innovative skill control.
When I play 07, I find the players are too close together to receive any pass and like the new NHL, I just love to make those thread the needle passes without the red line and I have more success at it with 2K7. EA has made a giant stepforward in the gameplay department and I am glad many of you are digging it. I still have fun with it also on the PSP although the controls are bit different.
One thing for sure, Hockey fans are for a treat this year when it comes to gameplay. Say NO to "Exclusive Rights"..

Um...that's one way of interpreting people observing that NHL 07 is more fun...

I just ignore his posts, skip right over them. His worthless rants to anything that doesn't agree with his thoughts has become quite predictable and boring.
I can't wait to play my next game.. Chicago comes to town for some good old hard hitting hockey.

maybe mess with the sliders a bit, slow the game down and youll gain a little control.
Dont play aggresive youll gain some better spacing.
play on superstar or allstar the Ai will sometimes cycle on you.
Im still seeing new animations and different stuff.
Im loving it , hope you can find something in it.
In EA's game I had been playing in the World Tournament the last few days before my 360 crapped out and on All Star the AI cycled the puck on me a few times especially the Russian team. I did try a tournament in pro mode before moving up to all star and I lost the first game playing as the U.S. and won the rest of the games in the tourney and they have a nice little ceremony and trophy presentation that plays after you win it.
Only slider settings I messed with were turning fatigue and fatigue recovery all the way up and game speed all the way down and I used the overhead camera and never had any framerate problems.
It may not be the perfect hockey game but there are things about it that make me keep saying just one more game and that one more game turns into a couple of hours later, just sucks I'll have to wait a couple of weeks to play again.
Finally got 2K7 gamefly'd to me yesterday and played a few games tonite.
Now this is the XBox version, so I'm not sure if the 360 is the same, but....
The Dynamic camera is very nice and add's a breath of fresh air that this game sorely needed. It is hard to find the puck at times when the action is farther away, but you get used to it. Most of the game seems almost exactly like 2K6, so I'm wondering if they (like EA) put most of their $$$ into the 360 version. It certainly plays a solid game of hockey and there really isn't anything to nitpick, other that the DAMN FACEOFF BUG that they left in there (unbelievable!), so it looks like we have 2 solid choices this year and that's great for hockey fans! 2K's game seems to play and "feel" more sim-like and like a real hockey game. The skating is SMOOTH and the defensive controls are great. There is so much depth to the controls, you always have something new to learn. EA's controls are much more basic compared to 2K's. I would definitley say that it is the best 2K series to date, but the game has a bit of that "been there before" feeling, but it still plays a solid game of hockey. Purests and 2K diehards will certainly be content with this game, but I can see a lot of folks being confused as to which game to settle on. EA's game seems to offer more "fun-factor", while 2K's game "feels" more like real hockey. You really can't say which is better...it all comes down to personal preference on these two.
WOO HOO! Finally won my first game of the season. Quite a game vs Chicago who was up 4-1 early in the 3rd period. We came back though and Doug Weight tied the game on a slapshot by the left circle. He shot it so hard, the puck stuck in the top right of the net. It was neat to see the puck hit the net and then LaLime's glove went up a second later.
Like the hit variety in MVP, every goal was different and I'm still seeing so many different goals it's insane. Finally saw the net come off its moorings as well.
It was neat to see the team tackle Bill Guerin when he scored 25 seconds into the OT. The crowd was going crazy and I finally felt relief in getting that first W. I'm finding Franchise mode to be better the more I play. I like when someone is put on waivers, you get asked if you would like to sign that player.
If anyone has any good sliders for 2k7 please do share because I'm liking this game less and less everytime I play it. Shots are way too high on 5 minute periods, if you lower shot accuracy the goals go way down. I can't find a happy medium with the sliders and the game is very arcadey feeling but without the goals. This game is frustrating the hell out of me and I'm having way more fun and way more of a sim experience with NHL 07.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.
Just as I figured...so sensitive about your precious 07.
I'm just not impressed...like I said...I guess I just like an inferior product. It wouldn't be the first time. There was no offense meant by my comment other than I was wondering why I missed the boat so badly. Everyone loves 07 but me...and I was trying to figure out why, but no one was really explaining why it was a better game of hockey...they just claim it's more fun. It was directed towards me mostly.

The shot accuracy slider in NHL 2K7 does not work like it should. If you set it low, shots do not miss the net, they just go right to the goalie more often. This is why lowering the shot accuracy does not reduce the shot on goal totals in NHL 2K7. The goalies and net are like puck magnets and you cannot possibly miss even if you try to. So you end up with extremely high shot totals but very low scoring games which is very unrealistic.

The thread is 13 pages long there has to be some posts explaining why some like it better and if it is only its a funner game then to some i guess thats all they need.
Its fun , realistic, good AI ,you could play 20 min periods online and get real shot totals, you can play 10 min periods dynasty and get realistic shot totals.
I dont care what anyone says this is a good game from EA .
Controls and goal scoring , the goalies ? unsurpassed in a hockey game.
Does that count as something ?

I also noticed very high shot totals in 2K playing 7 min periods.
Like 55-65. Maybe need to lower shot accuracy and raise shot blocking.

I'm ready to go on record and say that NHL 07 for the Xbox is the best hockey game ever made for the current generation. They really did a great job this year. It just has that one more game feel, I can't quit playing it.

For me, NHL 07 just plays a better game of hockey out of the box and I've had to do very little slider tweaking to get what I consider a pretty darn good representation of the NHL.
In NHL 2k I've been tweaking sliders since getting it with little luck. The game is way too arcadey and relies on one-timers and rebounds as the only means of scoring. The cpu doesn't scare me on breakaways in 2k as they seem to always think pass first or dump it in for a line change. Show me one NHL player that will dump the puck in on a breakaway for a line change. Late game AI continues to be a problem in the 2k game as well. Oftentimes the cpu will not pull its goalie until there's less than 30 seconds left to play in the game even if they have full control of the puck in my defensive zone with a little over a minute to play. They cycle the puck too much in 2k as well. The cpu offense consistently passes up open shots just to pass and the shot totals are still way too high. The cpu passing is way too spot on and I never see off target passes by them. I rarely see off target shots too (though according to TRI when you lower shot accuracy that means more pucks will go straight to the goalie instead of sailing wide). Overall I guess I'm just sick of having to mess with their sliders to find a good game of hockey when I messed with sliders in NHL 07 for about 5 minutes and found a great game of hockey.
IMO, NHL 07 does all the things I just mentioned that bothers me about 2k better. You add to that the new control scheme which allows for one-on-one battles and realistic goalie AI and I'm really loving this game. I'm playing on All Star with some slider tweaks (mainly shot accuracy and game speed stuff) and I'm able to get realistic shot totals playing 10 minute periods. I'll play a game of 2k on 5 minute periods and average about 30-35 more shots on goal per game total.
I still would love for someone to post the sliders they are using for 2k7 so I can see what they're seeing.
