Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Of course, you also have to be in to the Nintendo exclusives. There are a few multi platform games, but it seems to be fewer and fewer. The Wii U still appeals to me though (still got that itch), but I doubt I'll get one until there's another price cut and more games.. I'd still rather play 3D Mario World, New Super Mario Bros, The Wonderful 101, Nintendoland, Legend of Zelda, the upcoming Mario Kart, than a FPS.Aristo wrote:I think a Wii U sounds like a better console. An hour or two a week means spending $400, let alone $500 on a console is pretty dumb. You can get a base model Wii U for $250.
But yeah, if all you're interested is in gaming, the PS4 seems to be the way to go.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
And perhaps another question is if your a MLB The Show guy ? Your gaming describes me to a tee with the difference being I'm strictly sports gaming and baseball in particular, so for me its a no brainer. oh and thanks Dan for the Nowinstock link. Scored my Ps4 a week after hooking up to that site.fletcher21 wrote:I have both a 360 and a Ps3. Wii is a niche console at best, so that's out. The difference between 400 and 500 is not a deal breaker to me. All I really need with my limited amount of time is maybe a handful of good games to last me all thru 2014. I used to play a game like MGS in a weekend, but now days a 12-15 hour campaign would take me a few months to complete. I think I might look into a PS4. My only knock on the ps3 was the controller, but the new ps4 controller seems like a nice upgrade.

Co signed. The DS4 has been super impressive. Sony stepped it up with the DS4.dbdynsty25 wrote:It's so far superior to the PS3 controller, it's ridiculous. Heh, sorry for the lack of detail. Just set it up. It's well made & definitely captures more of the room (good for the workout stuff). I'm hoping the voice rec is improved since it's now further away from my speakers. Funny thing is it comes with a "privacy sleeve" to slide over the camera if you want a little 'me time'.Diablo25 wrote:Well? How is it? Purchased a 3 year warranty for the PS4 this morning from Squaretrade. Figured it'd be worth the investment and I'd have less worry if something happens to it. Just gives me a little bit more peace of mind. I was able to get a 35 percent discount simply by asking the customer service rep for a code so, it came out to $35.09. If any of you purchased the PS4 on November 15th, today is the last day to get an extended warranty.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
After a couple weeks with the 'Bone, I'm really liking the thing a lot now. The one thing I think is truly foolish is having Party Chat default to Off when you create or even join a party. That's just plain silly. But otherwise, all the things that were frustrating at first, I've adjusted to them now and nothing is any more frustrating or more complicated than it needs to be. Yes, I do wish there were a quicker way to layer friends list on top of whatever I'm doing rather than having to load up the whole friends app, but I'm so used to it now and I have a good handle on the various shortcuts that it's not such a big deal for me now. I also wish they had voice messages, but to be honest I never liked receiving a voice message on the 360 because it took way, way too long to listen to when in a game versus being able to read a text message at a glance.
And having the TV function through the 'Bone is frankly amazing. Very used to it now, and while I'm often using my remote to change channels and such, I do use voice commands sometimes to change channels. But having "Xbox on" and "Xbox watch TV" and "Xbox turn off" easily available via voice are pretty close to worth the price of admission.
And the few games I'm playing are super awesome. Let it not be imagined that just becuase the 'Bone has all these awesome TV and Kinect features and such that the games are somehow lame or not "next gen" compared to 360/PS3. FIFA is so much better than the very good 360 version it's almost like a totally different game. The controls are insanely crisp and snappy, even in all online modes including OTP where we had at least four on four Friday night. Forza, while dry as ever and lacking enough tracks, really makes me feel happy I was an early next gen adopter. Drivatars are a true game changer as is the new controller with its additional rumbles and vibrations. The tracks are far more detailed on the Tarmac and look just amazingly gorgeous.
There aren't nearly enough apps. No HBO Go, with it's promises of enhanced Smart Glass functionality. No Game Trailers or IGN or Gamespot for video reviews and their various shows. There aren't nearly enough small XBL Arcade style games, by tons. And I don't like that they abandoned the XBL catalogue system and now have all games in the same place. The Windows style layout is epically less functional than what we are now used to on 360 in terms of searching for games and demos and add ons in the marketplace, much less their ability to highlight specials and content and so on. This area of the system seems far underdeveloped and frankly embryonic compared to the 360.
No doubt it was annoying the other night when an update had been downloaded and needed to install from a hard power on, which delayed my ability to watch TV. I would have been climbing the walls if it had been a situation where I ran home to turn on a football game or something, so that's an issue. But now that my 'Bone is sending DTS 5.1 through tihe s/pdif, I have zero complaints and frankly find having the 'Bone features right there while I'm watching TV super awesome. And the games I'm playing are great. Maybe after Xmas I will feel the urge to setup the PS4. The EBay market is not as I hoped it would be, so I'm keeping it (unless a desperate DSPer can't find one on his own...) and yet I'm in no rush as the 'Bone is more than satisfying my next gen itch so far. I'm not bored yet.

Agree with most of what you said. Many have been quick to criticize rather than learn how to use the damn system. Bottom line, it's a great system with huge room for growth.Zeppo wrote:After a couple weeks with the 'Bone, I'm really liking the thing a lot now. Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
It would be better if the software was actually complete. Thankfully they fixed my main gripe last week by getting rid of the horrible laggy interface. It can only get better.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
And there should be an option to invite to game from the party screen, unless I missed it. All I see is invite more players to party.Zeppo wrote: The one thing I think is truly foolish is having Party Chat default to Off when you create or even join a party. That's just plain silly.
I think the idea was that the party would take you together from game to game, but it doesn't work that way at all. Each game has its own hoops to jump through before joining games and the party system is oblivious to that. Presently, its a chore to join friends in most games.
My other complaint is that the HDMI in should pass through. If I'm going to watch TV only on that TV, I don't want to have to turn on the console. I already had a splitter since I share one cable box with 2 of the TVs in my game room, so I'm using the second TV now for TV only.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
This ^. I bought a splitter and I can't quite get the audio now only video, while I manage to have the Xbone off. So I have it set up as MS wants me to but my wife won't come near the living room now for her shows. Not to mention that the One Guide is still missing in action in this part of the world.Pete1210 wrote:Zeppo wrote: TMy other complaint is that the HDMI in should pass through. Gaming wise, I got no complains but the media integration needs further upgrades.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
This game is quite addicting. Gets more difficult as you advance and you gotta keep playing lots to get the XP's in order to get that elusive good set of woods, irons and putter, not to mention some perks.
Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
Well thanks to whoever posted that nowinstock.net website. I was able to get a base PS4 console today which is what I've been looking for. Didn't want to buy a bundle on either console. Free expedited shipping too which gets it here by the 19th.
That's a pretty slick setup...got a txt, went to bestbuy and ordered. They were out of stock like 2 minutes later.

Unfortunately, for me, it will take a much better golf game to get me to spring for a next-gen console (most likely Xbone).10spro wrote:This game is quite addicting. Now, if a next-gen golf game similar to Links 2004 (upgraded of course) were available along with NHL 15, then I would be all over a next-gen console.

Re: XBox One AND PS4 Discussion
I've been following this thread with great interest. I'm still on the fence about which way to go, although I'd say I'm still leaning towards the PS4 at this point. The only game that's currently available for either machine that I really want is Forza 5. Unfortunately, it's not compatible with my Fanatec GT2 wheel and Clubsport pedals, nor does it appear that it ever will be. I suck so bad at racing games with a gamepad that I can't justify the cost of the console and the game for kinds of performances I'd be turning in with it.
I'd also jump on the PowerStar Golf bandwagon if I had a One based on what I've read about it. I know it's not a realistic golf game, but from all that I read it's got $20 worth of fun going for it. The Rivals mode sounds better than playing against AI golfers, but it's still surprising that this game can't support online multiplayer. Heck, Avatar Golf supports live multiplayer for goodness sake! 10spro's video once again shows me that the game does have some compelling camera work.
I'm somewhat interested in NBA 2K14 for both machines. but not enough to buy either console just for it. I really don't start getting my basketball hormones flowing until January anyway, so this will allow the ultimate factor of whether I get a PS4 or an XBox One to play out... whether or not DriveClub will support my Fanatec GT2 or not. If it does, that's a pretty good indicator that future simulation type racing games will support the current-gen Fanatec hardware.
