Despite all the chirping about problems with the game, it is still a better game IMO than Forza 3 in terms of realism of driving and handling.
Count me in as a player who's also enjoying GT5 for the pure driving experience while testing different cars. Far from a ruin or trade it for something else, I picture myself keeping GT5 for awhile. As soon as I get all the clunker out in my living room I'll be trying the wheel controller. Would love to get some online action with some of you too.

Apparently the HKS controller is arriving on Monday.

Looks nice, but it still befuddles me why no company has tried to release another neGcon or an improved version of one for driving games on next-gen consoles:

Image

The neGcon for the PSX was the best non-wheel peripheral I've ever used on a console. Pressure-sensitive, spring-loaded analog gas and brake buttons and the twisting analog steering provided incredible precision -- better than any console wheel except for the high-end Logitech DFP and G25/27.

I'll be sure to post some impressions of the HKS once I run it through its paces. I watched a couple YouTube videos of it and it looks really awesome. People who have tried it out rave about it.

Dang, PK, digging out some truly old-school stuff with the negcon. That controller was plain sick for when it came out. Utterly great controller.

Has anybody had a chance to see or play this thing in 3D? It's got to be a pretty cool experience I would imagine.

Here I have a Samsung 55" LED tv and I totally forgot about the 3D option. Will try it out for sure, should be great.

Yeah, that's where I am with this game to. Just enjoying it, taking it for what it is. Unlocking all those cars is as addicting as ever. I haven't even gotten to the Super License tests yet, that's usually my favorite part of the game. And that AMG Driving Academy at Nurburgring seems pretty cool, I can see myself spending a lot of time with that, trying to get golds.

Yeah, I've done jack sh*t so far and the only thing that really bothers me about the game is the loading times. For some reason I cannot install the game correctly as it stalls at like 40 seconds or 1 second remaining each time. I let it sit and nothing ever happens. The only thing I've found to fix it is to make sure the date and time are right and they are. So whatever. :(

I've read where it takes forever for that last second or minute that you mentioned. Some people waited 10 minutes from what I've read. That's certainly frustrating.

Yeah DB you need to wait, those install times are phucked up. There are some on the GT5 boards who waited 15 minutes for the last little bit to install. My install took about 30 minutes total, don't know why but I ah ain't complaining. :)

My install took over 30 minutes, maybe closer to 45. 8O

Don't take the time remaining seriously as mine never said anything longer than 2 minutes. It said 2 minutes remaining from the beginning and said that for at least 30 minutes.

All I can say about the game is that if you enjoy Gran Turismo than this is the ultimate version to have. If you do not enjoy the Gran Turismo franchise this title has done nothing that will sway you.

I had no intention of buying this game but thanks to Gamefly I was able to keep it for $37 and it is well worth that price for me. This coming from a gamer who has come to terms with the fact that I am just not good enough to play the hardcore sim racers. That makes GT5 a pretty good fit for me.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

The hour correction is the only thing that I have yet to fix. It's corrected on the PS3, my Samsung TV, but not on the game. Can't recall finding under the options mode either. Am I missing something?

Installing the game into the HD is definitely the thing to do. The original notice tells you that it takes about 20 minutes, but it took me about 35 minutes.

That's exactly what I did...tho I got mine for 32 since I had a 5 dollar reward waiting. :)

I love the GT games just for the car collecting experience and something to just tool around with. I've got no qualms about how they setup their game...it really is a driving simulator...and a driving simulator only. Racing, well that's another story.

I'm such a dumb*ss. LOL! I'm trying to figure out why everyone's complaining about how long it takes to install, when it only took me about ten minutes. Apparently I'm the only one here without an HDTV. :D

I never thought I'd enjoy it, but I kinda like the B-Spec stuff. I haven't watched any replays of my own races so far, but it's kinda cool watching a "live replay" of sorts in the B-Spec mode and crap. It's not exactly edge-of-your-seat gaming, but it's a nice diversion.

The time shown on the install is broken. It is taking most people 40-50 mins to install, despite the screen being way off on time remaining. I agree about the load times. Even with the game installed the load times seem a bit long.

Supposedly per the GT5 forum the load times should drop as more content is installed on the hard drive while playing but I do agree it gets annoying after awhile.

Got the game today;install to HDD took right at 40 minutes on a 120GB Slim.Install analysis here: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... blog-entry

Props to PD for enabling 1080p,although the AA is supposedly better in 720p;http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... sis?page=6

For guys with the setup,GT5 is 7.1 native audio. Some of the awful sound effects, though, bring down the overall experience.

I'm sure they had their reasons, but making players play the game for a long time to unlock full mechanical damage and the full extent of the AI can't have helped with reviews.

http://www.gamerevolution.com/review/ps3/gran-turismo-5
There are also some big late-game rewards for the dedicated racers among you. For example, cosmetic vehicle damage doesn’t unlock until fairly far into the game, and full mechanical damage doesn’t kick in until even further on. The AI also doesn’t seem to put up much of a fight until later in the game, but when it does start to show its true colors, you’ll wonder if you’re even playing the same game anymore.

Sony buried more than a few other surprises in GT5 that they didn’t foreground much in the lead-up to release (the rally courses are procedurally generated, for crying out loud!). All I can say is I’m very glad I put serious hours into this game before passing final judgment.

What does he mean that the rally courses are "procedurally generated"? I take it that's a good thing?
