No sympathy, mate. The most talented team in the tournament put itself in that position by squeaking past Switzerland in a shootout and losing to the USA.10spro wrote:But for Canada to win 4 games in 6 nights is pretty damn tough.
If they're good enough and tough enough, seven games in eight nights are surmountable for the gold.

Yep. Once again total agreement.pk500 wrote:No sympathy, mate. The most talented team in the tournament put itself in that position by squeaking past Switzerland in a shootout and losing to the USA.10spro wrote:But for Canada to win 4 games in 6 nights is pretty damn tough.

No sympathy for Team Canada. They dug their own hole.
If these players are truly gold medal worthy they will win these next 3 games.
The US team may have the easier road but it was not handed to them. They have earned it! They have already beaten the tourney favorite on their home ice.
And no one is asking for a lemonade here. They certainly put themselves in a tough position that started in the game with the Swiss. I am just saying that 'Gold' is pretty damn hard to reach for this team now. Not impossible, but unlikely IMO.XXXIV wrote:Yep. Once again total agreement.pk500 wrote:No sympathy, mate. Oh, yeah: I'm pulling for a collision course between the U.S. and Canada for the gold, too.
Hopefully the result will be just as sweet as the preliminary round game.

Two words describe why I think Canada will win tonight: Bobby Lou.10spro wrote:You guys think Canada will pull one tonight? I have the Russians in a SO. But, I agree with you both, a USA-Canada final would be awesome.

If you guys want to know how I felt in 2006 after the Swiss upset team Canada in Turin after being outplayed the entire game and out chanced, have a look at the game going on right now. J. Hiller is red hot and to make things worse, USA gets robbed of a goal at the end of the second period as I thought the puck went in before time run out.
It was the right call. The puck was dead-on the line with 0.0 left. NBC showed an overhead view in slow-mo with a clock overlay.10spro wrote:If you guys want to know how I felt in 2006 after the Swiss upset team Canada in Turin after being outplayed the entire game and out chanced, have a look at the game going on right now. I had a Canadian feed on before I learned MSNBC.com had the game on live. How refreshing it is to hear Peter Loubardais and Ray Ferraro instead of Doc Emrick screeching and Ed Olcyzk.
Still switched to MSNBC because the video quality was so much better.
Update: SWEET RELIEF!

I don't know. The quality of these teams is so uniformly good that I don't think there's a real chance of any upset worthy of the name. There just isn't the large marginal differences in team quality with the pros playing.wco81 wrote:Only team which can beat Canada before the Gold medal game would seem to be Russia.

One thing strikes me for sure after watching these games. Either potent teams like Canada and Russia have slowed down a bit or the other nations have made gigantic steps to narrow their differences.RobVarak wrote:I don't know. "Could certainly." Nothing like mixing possibility and certainty in adjacent words to cover your ass.wco81 wrote:And if they get to the final game against the US, they could certainly win it.

Come on, dude, step off the fence: Either "will" or "could."

All in good semantic fun ... all in good semantic fun.

Yep...Plus they are playing on the smaller NHL ice surface which cuts down a bit of the skill difference.10spro wrote:One thing strikes me for sure after watching these games. Not a news flash for Kings' fans, but Drew Doughty is a f*cking superstar. He might be the best Canadian D man in this tournament in just his second season as a pro.
