So are fans only supposed to get upset when *star* players cheat or at least those star players on their favorite team? I mean, I see just as many guys with Cardinals hats on as just about any other team (including one current member of the 2009 Cardinals). But none of those players were stars or at least the stars haven't been named *yet*.
I mentioned this before, but I'm pretty sure baseball tainted the record books long before the steroid era when they only allowed whites to play in the majors and thus excluded a large segment of qualified and talented players. It's not that I don't care about players cheating, but it's not something worth wasting a lot of energy about. The focus should be on cleaning up the game going forward.
Even in the wasteland of Sports Radio, it was hard to find anyone (other than Yankee fans) who cared. There were lots of calls for the "list" to be published, but that ain't happening (unless it's leaked).

There's two current members of the Cards actually. Ankiel and Franklin.
As a Red Sox fan for 38 years I am outraged!! All our beloved Papi did was kiss some fan heading down the tunnel after a win and low and behold she had just eaten a hot dog that was touched by the food vendor who picked up said hot dog out of a box shipped to him by some roid raging weiner packager. Good god can't the poor guy catch a break!!
On a serious note, to all of you ready to pull the trophies away from the Sox, pah-lease. The late 90's Yankees won with juicers....admitted juicers. The HR record is held by a juicer. The best player in the game is a juicer...admitted. Arguably the greatest pitcher in baseball ever was a juicer. Bottom line is since Brady Anderson went from 12 to 50 HR's this game has been tainted (and long before for other reasons as many have mentioned). I watch baseball because roids, PED's, weed, crack, coke, don't help you become a major league ball player. Some of that helps you become a guy that can hit bombs, but the talent to make the majors is proven long before that happens. Drugs or no drugs these are the best players in the world, and i will always enjoy watching it.
I don't know if I'm more upset that all these guys cheated or that they lied (and continue to lie) about cheating. I'm also po'd at all the fans who continue to cheer these guys on like nothing happened. I guess that's the world we live in today.
"I think you clean up the game by the testing," Ortiz said. "I test you, you test positive, you're going to be out. Serious. I know that if I test positive for using any kind of substance, I know that I'm going to disrespect my family, the game, the fans, and everybody. I don't want to be facing that situation, so what I will do, I won't use."
Why does a die hard red sox fan have the angels "mascot" as their handle? Curious.
Two reasons really. 1) Because nothing pleases me more than fu**ing with SoCal folks like yourself. And 2) Far before the Angels ever used it, i was using it to pump up my Gristle Missle.
Yeah, cuz I love everything So Cal...except for the sports teams. I hate every single one of em. So you're certainly not f*cking with me. There are certainly no worse fans in my book than Los Angeles.
Loving Peavey to the Sox. Hopefully they're within reach of the division when he's able to come back. Even if they aren't they should have a solid rotation for the next 3 years.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.
I have to admit that the Yankees are getting their money's worth so far this season. AJ, Teixeira and Sabathia have been doing their jobs and are leading the Eastern division in the AL. They won their first encounter with the Bosox last night and game two so far is turning into a pitcher's jewel as they go into extra innings in NY.
When was the last time that the Yankees swept their arch rival Bosox? For some reason I dislike them less than BOS this year and they did it in an impressive fashion. Sox can't seem to hit.
This whole waiver claim thing seems shady to me overall. Sure, Toronto wanted out from under Rios' contract, but giving him away for nothing? Just seems like a silly rule...but I guess the White Sox, if they want to pay the bill, can have him.
How much is a division title worth to the White Sox? Even if they overtake the Tigers, would they be able to compete against the Yankees or the Angels
For the chance to do that, they're assuming a big contract.
You wonder if pro sports other than hockey is viable in Canada. Raptors are trying to hang on but if they lose Bosh, maybe they go the way of the Grizzlies?
Blue Jays may have had a chance in any division but the AL East.

I see nothing wrong with it. All teams have a shot at him, starting with the team with the worst record. If claimed, Toronto could have pulled him back,or tried to work out a trade. ,ala Cleveland did with Minn in the Carl Pavano deal. I guess with the high price tag,the Sox figured they were giving enough. Not sure what the White Sox plan on getting out of it,other than insurance in the outfield for Dye,Quenten, and Posednik. Who knows,a change of scenery might help him. After the Tribe took 2 outta 3 this weekend, they need to address pitching issues.

Good riddance if you asked me. For the money that he makes, I would much rather bring back T. Snider and get rid of Rios' contract. His heart just doesn't seem to be in the right place. His contract is good until 2015 at an average of 13 million a year. Way too much for a mediocre player.
I think the Raptors will be fine, P. Colangelo has done a decent job since he took over and the franchise is not as messed up as when Stu Jackson took over the Grizzlies in Van City.
And you're right about the Jays being able to do very well in any other division, other than the one they're in now. How do compete with the BOS and NYY that over spend year after year? The route to go is the TPA way, start from scratch and draft good young players.
Rios mediocre? I know he's having a down season, but Fangraphs values his 2007 and 2008 seasons as worth $18.9M and $24.6M, respectively. His 2009 salary is $5.9M and he's already put up $5M worth of production. Rios is a plus-plus defensive corner outfielder and a competent CF at a minimum with some pop in his bat.
Sure, the White Sox are going to be paying peak production prices for his past-peak seasons, but as long as this year isn't the first step to Bolivian Rios will be worth his contract...especially for a team like the White Sox, who have shown they're willing to spend money.
Lesson of the story: post-arbitration players are expensive and it is important to pick the right ones if you're a mid- or small-market team. The Jays f*cked themselves with the Wells contract and probably didn't need to extend Rios considering the talent (like Snider) on the way.
Great pick up for the White Sox though, they can afford a deal like this. They get insurance for Quentin's lingering foot problems and Podsednik gets to turn into a pumpkin as the 4th OF instead of a starter.

Rios has been mediocre at best this year. And his glove sucked big time costing the team several wins. He might actually be better at CF but with Wells there already, Cito didn't have a choice. And you're right about Vernon. He hasn't produced at all since that big contract a few years back and with a week left to go before the trading deadline, I voiced my hope to have those two guys traded. It didn't happened.
I much rather save 60 million for the next five years or so to try to re-sign Halladay and go for a power hitter next season. I wish Rios the best, having said that, I wished Ricciardi got rid of him for someone else.

Dude, I know it's "fair", it's just a dumb rule that you can just put a guy out there with his contract and let anyone take him. That's all I'm saying. It's mainly a gripe against guaranteed contracts.
