Yeah, I'm glad I made the plunge rather than getting another GH controller and the seperate rock band drum kit.
I don't even play GH anymore really, Rock Band is just that much more fun.

I have been reading more and more good things about the gum rubber mods.
Jack, just go buy the F'n game. Quit ANALyzing it! You have a guitar hero Xplorer right? Go get the whole thing and have two guitars and have the drums NOW. Why wait and pay just as much?
You have posted more than anyone in this thread and don't even have the game LOL!

OK, here's my daily Rock Band post
-How has that felt/foam drum mod been working out for those of you that did it? I have been reading on the rockband forum that the foam/felt thing wears out after a while. Some folks there are recommending real drum pads that muffle the sound.
-Has anyone tried the silencer tips you just put on your sticks? That seems like an easier solution.
-Any of you modded the pedal? It seems that if you put a couple of rubber stoppers at the bottom of the pedal where the spring is, it will prevent the pedal from cracking under the stress that constant foot pressure causes.
I am going to get this game this week. Does anyone know if there is a way I can tell if I am getting a "recently mfg'd model", rather that one that was made at release? I have read that there are a few sets of serial numbers out there and want to make sure I am getting the latest, improved model.

-Foam/Felt holding up just fine.
-No silencer tips here, the foam/felt combo is awesome
-no pedal mod for me. I'm not certain how people are breaking these things, but they're probably pounding the hell out of it. It's not necessary. It's a one or zero getting sent as a signal to the console, if you hit it harder it won't get any louder like a real drum kit.
I keep my pedal depressed at all times, and then lift slightly and re-press for each drum beat.
-no idea on the serial numbers. I bought mine 2 weeks ago from Sam's Club (360 model for $149) and the guitar broke the first day (see earlier in the thread) but have a new one from EA that works great (2 day turnaround, and they lifted the CC hold according to my Citibank).

I got my Rock Band Drum Pads in the mail today. When I first removed them from the manila padded envelope they came in I was like, "is this it?" There are 8 pads...red, green, blue and yellow (1 of each) felt pads that fit perfectly onto the RB drums. Then there are four 4) slightly smaller black pads that go on top of the colored pads..leaving a colored ring around the outer edge. They actually look pretty sharp. When I hit the pads with my drumsticks I was pleasantly surprised at how much quieter the drums were. Plus there is now a nice, soft feel to the drums. I would say the pads dampen the sound around 40-50%. Now I have no idea how much wear and tear they can take but so far so good. I won't recommend them until I have used them a bit more.Diablo25 wrote:Will do. Supposedly they had some shipping issues after the holiday. Let us know how they check out. Do u get more "rebound" with them than without? Is the drum registering all the hits the way it's supposed to? Do u have to hit them harder?Diablo25 wrote:I got my Rock Band Drum Pads in the mail today. When I first removed them from the manila padded envelope they came in I was like, "is this it?" Here is a video that demonstrates the 'roll problem' with the drum sets really well.

It's getting to be quite a b*tch on expert level, and it's killing me on 'Run to the Hills' on Hard.
Does anyone know if there is now a model that doesn't have this problem?

My pedal has been fine so far, but given the speed and quantity of bass hits needed on Expert, I can't say I'm surprised that the plastic is snapping on some.jondiehl wrote:

Yeah, I tried expert the other day for the hell of it and I see what you mean. I hadn't ventured past hard before on drums and was wondering how you could snap that pedal. Now I see, especially on the Metallica download pack.webdanzer wrote:My pedal has been fine so far, but given the speed and quantity of bass hits needed on Expert, I can't say I'm surprised that the plastic is snapping on some.jondiehl wrote:

Diablo - with the pads that you ordered, are they both foam or do you have black felt protecting the foam? I went with the foam/felt combo as I feel it still gives good rebound and sound deadening, but you're not going to wear out/dimple/tear up the foam that way.

Diablo,
So there are 2 felt pads? One (smaller) black one on top of the colored one?
Isn't that too thick? Does the felt provide any "rebound"? Folks on the rockband forums are reporting lots of success with the real drum mutes or the gum rubber mods.
EA should be smart and get a manufactured drumhead cover/mute in the stores quickly as it seems like most people want these. The ideal thing would be a removable over that you could use whenever you wanted it "quieter".

There is more rebound but not much. All my drum hits register...I experimented a bit by barely hitting them and it registered. You don't have to hit them harder. The only thing I can foresee being a problem is if they wear out. Again, so far, so good.JackB1 wrote:Let us know how they check out. Do u get more "rebound" with them than without? My pedal broke within the first week and I was not hitting it any different than my replacement one which has now lasted for months. I really think they just had some defective pedals out there.webdanzer wrote:My pedal has been fine so far, but given the speed and quantity of bass hits needed on Expert, I can't say I'm surprised that the plastic is snapping on some.jondiehl wrote:

Are you guys playing "heel up" or "heel down"? Heel up is the preferred method and also puts more pressure straight down on the ball of your foot,Spooky wrote: My pedal broke within the first week and I was not hitting it any different than my replacement one which has now lasted for months. which might make your pedal not break as easy. It's also a lot easier on your calf muscles than heel down.
I am so getting Last Train To Clarksville, I always liked that song.GameSeven wrote:This week's DLC:

Actually, I would think that heel down would be better because you wouldn't have as much weight to your foot. Heel down your just pushing forward with your foot, heel up and you're pretty much stomping down with your foot. Did I misinterpret that? I play heel down and mine is just fine.JackB1 wrote:Are you guys playing "heel up" or "heel down"?
