Tight game at the garage last night as the Wings down the 'Nucks 3-2. I just really enjoy watching DET, especially when #40 and #13 touch the puck. They are the best NHL team in puck possession, short, crisp tape to tape passes, and they always support each other in unison. If a guy is being cornered fighting for the puck you can always see two other Wing players ready to support that guy. I think the ref blew the call with 28 seconds to go what would have been the tie, but still I have to give kudos to DET for playing good Hockey night in, night out, very seldom you catch them in a bad night. Well coached.

My point was more that Kopitar wouldn't get recognized no matter how good or bad the Ducks are. My post was really a direct response to your comment about the Ducks dominating the poor market, and then I couldn't stop myself.

Hockey just doesn't get coverage in So. Cal in general, be it local or national. Only because the Ducks brought in two Norris Trophy winning dmen and won a cup did they get any kind of attention. And no, Selanne isn't big enough to get people outside of the hardcore so cal hockey fans to care about the sport around here. Selanne had plenty of years with the ducks in the 90's but it didn't mean jack. The Ducks and Kings both got poor coverage during that time period.

I agree that local coverage blows. The Kings and ducks may sell a lot of tickets but not everyone is going. Also, who cares if they sell those tickets if not enough people are watching on TV. That's the thinking of the L.A. Times.

Kings fans have tried to get the L.A. Times to listen, but in reality we're a small number compared to Laker and Dodger fans. That being said, The L.A. Daily News has SUPERB coverage of the Kings, with great, exclusive, candid interviews with Lombardi and other members of the franchise. Just wanted to give them some recognition.

There was a forward on Anaheim who would have received attention: A fella named Selanne. Great player for a long time, going for his first Cup. :)

As for the bias, are you blaming the East Coast and Canada? Or should you point the finger at the LA media?

I'm surprised: The Kings are at 99.6 percentage of capacity for home attendance this season; the Ducks are at 116.9 percent. So what's the justification for the LA Times not to send a beat writer on the road? The fans are interested as evidenced by the packed home houses.

Don't blame the East Coast and Canada for the lack of hockey coverage. Blame the decision makers at Southland media outlets. And the fans must accept some culpability, too. If they b*tched loud enough, I would think the media would respond with more coverage.

Take care,
PK

Thanks for the insight, King. Very interesting. Sucks for the hockey fans in LA, too.

Cool blog from a guy who is attending 30 NHL games in 30 cities in 30 nights. He just started, so there's some good reading ahead:

This is article on Wired about about the problems with the new Reebok uniforms is three weeks old, but it's well worth reading.

Dean McAmmond is supposed to be back in OTT's lineup tonight after S. Downie's cheapshot. Good to know he's healthy again.

It's a shame. Come mid-season, that's about as full as the place is going to get. ;)
Mid-season? How about two games? Devils drew only 13k for the second-ever game there.

I wouldn't. :) But I've lived in Delaware for almost five years now and I've never stepped foot in the state of New Jersey. 8)

Mike Richards threw an extremely unnecessary cheap shelbow late in the Flyer's 5-2 loss to Montreal, but thankfully Kovalev didn't seem to be injured. On the bright side, Biron made a truly amazing save late in the 2nd period when two Flyers ran into each other and the Montreal player was left all alone in front.

I am surprised the league hasn't suspended him yet.

I was bored to tears watching the Predators clog the neutral zone to death last night at the garage. The effort was there for the 'Nucks but surprisingly Bobby Lou hasn't been quiet himself this season and let go two softies. To make things worse, VAN will be missing three of the their top six D-men for the foreseeable future as K. Bieksa will be gone for almost two months.

J. Spezza signs a seven year deal with OTT worth 49 million big ones. In my view he's all worth that dough.

Shelbow wasn't a typo. :) I couldn't tell exactly what part of Richard's arm hit Kovalev's chin.

Agree on Spezza, James.

But with the big deals Ottawa is paying to secure its Big Three, how much money will be left to sign the rest of the team? I know some of Spezza's money is coming through a signing bonus, but the Sens have a hell of a lot of coin tied into three players.

The Oil is a pretty lousy hockey team right now. It's only Nov. 3, and the team already has lost four starting defensemen due to injuries -- Souray, Pitkanen, Greene and now Roy.

Ouch.

Deceptive final score last night at Rexall. That was not a 4-1 hockey game. Very exciting 1-1 game until about eight minutes left. Grebeshkov's giveaway on Nashville's third goal was hideous.

Take care,
PK

Havnt read the article but i guess the jerseys dont wick water (sweat) like they should and are having to redesign the goalie jerseys as the persperation just drips into the gloves and blocker making it hard to stick handle , goalies needing 2/3sets of gloves and blockers for a game.
So much for the reebok edge system , whatever it is its just a jersey RBK looks like they may have to go back to cotton and lycra instead of undercarriage tiles from the space shuttle.

Ovechkin is supposedly going through two pairs of gloves per period because the new Reebok sweaters are wicking pools of sweat into his gloves.

These dudes ever heard of wristbands? :)

They are supposed to be less restrictive until you have to put a wrist band on wich swells up so big it wedges into the cuff of the gloveand locks your hands :D
Yeh my jersey is lighter in the 3rd but my gloves weigh twelve pounds.

OTT will have to start fresh with a new D, PK. With the amount of money they locked on to their top forwards, a player like W. Redden won't be back next season and I doubt Phillips is in their plans in the long run.

And misery loves company. It's tough when your team is already struggling but to have a decimated D in this league is asking for trouble. Salo and Bieksa could be gone for two months, Krajicek who was having a good start, another month, so we have the veterans Ohlund and Mitchell to watch over Bobby Lou. A. Miller has been average. But if there's some truth, here's an article that may cheer you up:

What a hilarious fight. First the guy flees and tries to jump into the bench for safety, and then 'the most ridiculous 3rd-man-in ever' leaps over the top like a running back on the goal line. Classic. :D
