Hey Terry,
Which do you prefer the best....the PC or 360 version? I am thinking about selling my 360 copy and picking up the PC version. I am not worried about my rig.

I really hate those dinosaur things around and in the gates. I can go toe to toe with most of the enemies in the game but after they charge a me a few times I'm toast. :( I do love the loot from the gates though.

You have to take those bastards out from a distance. They have damage reflection (which is the yellow glow when you hit them) and they can mess you up pretty fast if you stand toe to toe with them.

While we're discussing enemies, does anyone have a suggestion for Will O' Wisps? The only one I've seen go down is outside Bravil when 2 guards (one of which died) and a citizen all joined me in taking one down.

I have to kill them with an enchanted bow (I have one that does fire and one that does electricity) from a distance. If they get up close they have that red lightning looking attack that drains your health and heals them so I just run backwards with my bow and hope I don't end up running into another one. 8O

Since you have the rig, the PC version is pretty tough to pass on. So many mods already; ones that make sneaking work better (monsters have to "search" for you if you're sneaking, they're not psychic), more arrow damage for stealth characters, mods that make your horse stand put instead of wandering. "Quick start" mods that put a door in the first prison room so you can just bail and get started, etc.

Any game that has a console and a PC version is tough to not get a PC version of, since they're usually more customizable. Oblivion is the same. My problem is, I really like the 360 controller for the game. Once I figured out that Pinnacle Gaming Profile software or whatever it's called, I really felt great. It plays just like the 360 version now on my PC, except I use the right stick to control the mouse cursor when it appears, and the R trigger for click/L trigger for right click.

Yea..I picked up the PC version on Saturday. I personally like it better than the 360 just because of the mouse support. I just can't get into aiming with a controller. Thanks for mentioning all the mods. Will try them out first chance I get. Really like the sound of that sneak mod as I got frustrated on the 360 with the psychic monsters.

What do you guys mean by psychic monsters? I haven't noticed anything strange in their behavior.

If you are sneaking and you unleash a perfect stealth shot right to the jugular...monster falls, dead in one hit. A monster in the same basic vicinity knows exactly where the shot came from, even if you move from that location. Chases you down and you're no longer "hidden", despite setting up the sniper shot perfectly. Monsters are all-knowing and shouldn't pinpoint your location even if you're out of line of sight and sneaking perfectly.

That's what the mods help...monsters know the basic area and go "searching" for you. If you leave that area they need to search it completely before moving. You can sneak to another location, rip off a second sniper shot, etc.

I’m starting to have some problems with long load times and a few occasional lock-ups. It’s all pretty random, but it seems to be getting progressively worse the deeper I get into the game. In long load times I mean load times from 1 to 2 minutes. I also have frequent loading pauses as I’m riding on my horse through the countryside. Sometimes the pauses don’t resolve and the screen just freezes. I sometimes have this problem walking around in town as well. I have logged over 60 hours and put my character up to level 16. If things get much worse the game is going to be unplayable and I’m not going to be happy.

I have cleared the cache regularly on start-up but that doesn’t do squat for me anymore. I have quite a few saves (well over 100) so I may try deleting a bunch of them tonight. I started deleting some last night, but it sucks because you have delete them one at a time. I wish I could grab a whole bunch at one time. It’s probably going to take me a couple hours to get all the saves down to 10 or 15.

I went to elderscrolls.com to look for any info on this and lo and behold some people are having terrible problems. Everyone seems to have a theory. I have read any of the following problems and theories on the solution:

1. It’s a problem with the disk. The X-box is scratching rings into the disk and people are getting dirty disk errors. - My disk looks OK, so I don’t think that’s it.

2. The disk is just plain bad. - People have taken the game back 2 or 3 times and they are still having the same problems, so I don’t think exchanging mine will help.

3. The game simply won’t work with the hard drive. Download all the saves to a memory card, remove the hard drive and play the game from a memory card. – Screw that.

4. You have to clear the cache by holding down any button on start-up until the Bethesda logo comes up. - I’ve done that many times. I don’t think it helps anymore.

5. Start the game from your dashboard. - I’ve done that too. Doesn’t seem to help much.

6. You can’t have any more than 10 to 15 game saves. - I’m definitely an abuser there. So maybe deleting will help.

7. You have to keep the 360 horizontal and in a well ventilated area or it will overheat. - Horizontal and well ventilated, so that shouldn’t be a concern.

8. Etc., etc., etc.

Well, I’ll try and delete a bunch of saves and see if that helps me. Maybe I’ll relocate the X-box too. I haven’t heard too much talk of long load times and freezes in here. Anybody else having the problem and have they solved the problem if they had it.

Oh yeah, one more thing. My mercantile skill has frozen at level 46. It doesn’t move at all no-matter what I buy and sell.

Well, I think I fixed my own problem. I deleted over 130 saves last night. Then went to the dashboard, started the game from there and held down the A button while the game loaded up. Load times dropped alot and didn't have one freeze in over 3 hours of play.

I've heard the game saves were a problem. I only use one or two per character, and never have more than 3 or 4 characters at any time, so it's never been an issue for me personally. Right now I think I have a total of 3 saves, including the autosave lol.

Has anyone had any fun by taking brother Martin on some exploration missions with them? I finally got around to doing something on the main mission and closed the first Oblivion door, but decided to slowly make my way to the Priory and Brother Martin is tagging along.

He is sort of like an attack dog. You can get him to stay. You can get him to come with you. And if anyone/anything attacks you he kicks royal assss. If someone attacks me, I simply step aside and let the brother take over. Since I am a crappy fighter - even after spending a lifetime working through the arena fights - it is a nice change to have a partner. Sometimes the brother will pass out from overdoing it, but he always wakes up in a few minutes.

He does not attack guards or kill anyone that does not attack, but that's OK, since I haven't done killed anyone (except in battle/self defense) yet either.

I found this map of Cyrodiil online the other day posted by someone named AvidAlchemist. The link is below:

http://nirnroot.planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/

The map is basically a blow-up of the province and shows almost every landmark in the game including oblivion gates, ruins, caves, Daedra Shrines, etc.

It looks a little weird when it loads up because it's zoomed in to Hammerfell, just west of the province. But you can scroll the map by left clicking and dragging the map over. You can zoom in or out by clicking on the magnifying glasses at the lower right corner of the map. You can toggle the different locations on or off by clicking the icons at the top of the page.

I thought it was a neat map. When all the locations are toggled on, you realize that there are a ton of places to explore in this game. And I had no idea there were that many oblivion gates.

There are 2 downloadable quests available for Oblivion. The first one is the Orrery and they just released another one yesterday called the Wizards Tower (or something like that). I've downloaded both at 150 points a pop. I haven't checked out the Orrery quest yet but I did check out the Wizards Tower and it's pretty badass. It's a tower that you inherit and can use as your home. There's a herb garden with tons of herbs to pick, including Oblivion ones, and you can make spells or enchantments once you buy the candles for the pedestals. There's 3 or 4 things you can buy for it including the bedroom and library. These are somewhat expensive (1,500 - 4,000) but it looks to be well worth it. I would highly recommend getting the tower if your character uses magic at all.

Thanks for the heads up, Scoop. I'm looking forward to d/loading the Tower myself - beats going back and forth from one my character's houses to Imperial City every time I need to enchant a new item.

On a lighter note, the following is a link to the ElderScrolls.com forums where some gamers made vids of what they did to get rid of the "Adoring Fan" you meet in the game. Pretty funny stuff - or maybe I've been playing this game too much lately:

Took a break from this for a while but got back into it heavily the last couple days. Still an amazingly engrossing title. I dl'ed the Mehrunes Razor content, had a great time with it. When you get down into the ruined city, everything's at weird 45 degree angles. Picked up some nice dwarven armor. Got the razor. It was much smaller than I expected.

The wild part was when my vampirism had advanced to 50... I emerged from the quest into a lake and my skin started burning in the daylight. Crazy how you can see the smoke billowing off you. I wanted to get to the Imperial City, but they wouldn't let me fast travel since I was taking damage. I had to run almost the entire way, eventually picking up a convoy of angry wildlife that wanted to eat me, but I was too scared to fight, as I was doing restoration spells just to keep myself from dying in the sunlight. Finally found a horse, but what a weird image... running/riding for miles, chased by about seven wild animals at once, my flesh visibly smoking. Only in Oblivion.

Just picked up a used copy tonight on the way home, which makes game #2 since purchasing my 360.

I love my hometown Gamestop. The manager will always remember me since the last time I was there, the store was empty and as soon as I arrived a short but powerful storm engulfed the area and as I was waiting for the rain to stop, I bought the Xbox 360 and NCAA 2007. The manager wrapped up everything nicely and told me to pull my truck up to the door and he'll run out and put my stuff on the passenger side. Very nice of him to do that.

Foward to today and he tells me to get the used copy for $5 off and he'll also give me the 10% discount without having one of those cards. Nice guy.

I also can't believe I pre-ordered NHL 07 while I was there, that's a first for any hockey game, but I like what I've seen so far.

Just in the last couple of weeks, I got back into this after a long break from it. Man, is this game immense! So much to explore and so many quests. The big lesson I learned on the second serving is that I have to create multiple characters before leveling up too far and getting too involved to one guy. My first character is a disaster. He's a magic user who I've tried to make a blade-based melee man, a useless bowman whose class has marksman as a primary skill. I have to summon a skamp to tank for him, and I just learned that a minute ago.

I recently started a pure fighter, a Nord dude, big and strong, and my god, I can't believe how easy so many enemies and quests are with this guy compared to what I remembered from the first time around! I've still never set foot in the Arena with any of my characters, that's how engrossing and big this game is. With this big fighter, though, I will get some of that done, once I'm done with the main quest. This guy's raison d'etre is to get through the main quest, but after that is done he has much to explore.
