TCrouch wrote:The problems I had were entirely based around multiple profiles and maintaining controller "ownership"--and that may be due to my kinect being too close to where my couch sits in the corner of the room where I have my little gaming setup. When I reconnect my Xbox One, I'm going to leave it kinect-less and see if that helps.
My Kinect is set up fine and I ran into the controller issues when my older son and his girlfriend stopped over. I was not about to create sub accounts for them as they used the 360 maybe 2 times in 8 years. I had to set up guest account for my son to play. Same guest account wouldn't work for the girlfriend. Makes sense I guess, but now I'd have to set up a second guest account and she wasn't that interested.
I did create an sub account for my younger son since he will game occasionally. So far XB1 has done a good job of knowing who is who with the sub account. But most of my game time is solitary so multiple profiles are not an issue for me.
I imagine it could be a disaster where you had a lot of different friends popping in, say in a college dorm room. They should add a "home party" option where controller IDs can be disabled.

They must be storing skeletal or facial signatures somewhere so that Kinect can match them to what the sensor detects when a person walks into view?

Or does it only try to identify or log in a person when they're holding a controller?

Facial recognition...you don't need to be holding a controller for it to log you in. Just turn it on and anyone it recognizes in the room, it signs you in.

There's been no HSG for PS4 announcement yet, though, right?

I love HSG. Hopefully if it comes out we can get some tournaments going. Back in the day I ran an 'honor system' HSG tourney with guys here and over at OS. Was a blast!!!
No announcement yet, but keeping fingers crossed.

Played some more of Powerstar Golf last night. It's really a damn fine game. Pleasing graphics/style, a nice challenge, great integration of friends data and fun.

It is a decent game though I do wish more characters were unlocked from the start. I really don't see the caddy having an impact yet.

Yeah, I took the plunge last night. Originally I thought that maybe $20 bucks for a cartoony golf game was a bit steep, especially since I haven't heard of this title before but I can see its potential. Have to see how much weight the caddy man can influence your game as they say but I am in my very early stages. A foursome play would be great sometimes soon.

I managed to finally get my TV integration working with the Xbone over the weekend as my original cable box was the culprit of no video and distorted audio. With another big hole in the wallet, the new box wasn't planned for, but for me in order to really see the overall MS package and media integration, I was to upgrade the cable box. So it worked, problem is that one of the premium features in 'One Guide' does NOT work yet in Canada. So even though I know OneGuide’s best features will probably be available here at some point in the near future, it’s difficult not to wonder why this important feature wasn't available at launch north of the border.

Last time I checked, I did pay the $500 bucks the system is going for. But I guess we get less over here.

The Kinect still misses a lot of my commands and yes I have followed everything with 'Xbox' first. Wonder if I have to start all over again with the set up but right now the only commands I can give to the Kinect is when I am alraedy at the interface and even then is a miss and hit. The simple command of even 'Xbox ON' won't work for me now, so I'll play with it more during the week. But in terms of media integration, so far things haven't gone smoothly over here.

Now, when it comes to the playing department I have no qualms about the system. Upgraded Madden, Fifa, Ghosts and BF4 and bought Forza and Deadrising 3. It'll keeps us busy for sure over the holidays but in the meantime when it comes to media and voice commands, we'll have to rely on the old remote until the One guide is fully functional in this part of the world.

Is it storing pictures of you somewhere?

Apple says they don't store the fingerprints of the people who use the fingerprint sensor, that its stored in some secure part of the SOC that can't be accessed.

Rumor has it that MS will 'fix' the party system, getting it back to 360-like performance, but it may take some time:

Microsoft over the coming months will be replacing the entire party/notification/XBL-related UI parts wholesale. They won’t be fixing them like they previously had been telling developers. This is definitely a smart move and the right decision for the console longterm but it will have some fairly significant short-term implications. They likely won’t be finished until well into spring or possibly early summer (update: one of the sources of this story just told me “It may take up to a year” HOLY CRAP). With Titanfall and Destiny around the corner – two games that are built around online play and will require solid party infrastructure for working as a team… the news that the party system won’t be replaced by then is a kick to the gut.

Everything still isn’t peachy in the development community either as several developers have told me that the tools are still well behind schedule. The Xbox One dev kit has been so behind and so unstable that one developer told me he was “shocked” by how stable the retail Xbox One was when he got it at launch. The tools will improve but you have to wonder why Microsoft is so behind the ball on this.

My personal take is that this is good news for the Xbox One and its fans. If I worked on the Titanfall team I probably would be livid but in the long run it’s best for Microsoft to rebuild instead of trying to clean up a mess that just isn’t fixable. When it’s finally done the new party system/XBL-UI will be a vast improvement over what is available today. This console war is a marathon, not a sprint, and while Microsoft got off to a completely awful start they have been making some great moves lately including allowing the Kinect to be unplugged, snagging Chris Charla to run their indie division (ID@Xbox), and now deciding to replace bad decisions in the UI instead of constantly throwing band-aids at it. There will be growing pains this year for the Xbox One but it will be a better system long-term because of them. Also the current system, while annoying, does work – kinda. It’s not like current Xbox One owners are left with a brick until it’s fixed. I still can’t wait to get my hands on one and play some Forza and Dead Rising 3.

Good to read they are already working on improvements.

Saw a link to this reddit page in a Polygon article stating that Major Nelson is already feeding the user suggestions to MS:

http://www.reddit.com/domain/xboxfeedback.com/

I'm sure we'll get lots of upgrades to the OS, just like we did with the 360.

Just fired it up for the first time. What a blast! Hot Shots golf with incredibly deep friend and replay integration? Sign me up. This is going to be a very pleasurable time sink.

It doesn't have online multiplayer, from what I can tell, only local. You can also play against a friends best round, kinda like drivatar on Forza. Hope I'm wrong about the online multiplayer, would be fun.

It's download-only. Worth the $20 from my limited time with it, though. It is Hot Shots for all intents and purposes.

Sorry I should of been more clear. I figured it was a download, but all I see is full price games when going into Games. They made an already confusing marketplace even more confusing. I was looking for a Lego Marvel demo and couldn't find any demos.

You can say xbox bing demos or xbox bing golf or Powerstar golf. Should find it.

Awesome! :)

BTW, so how do you upload the vid to Skydrive? I've saved a bunch of stuff, but haven't messed about with the editing or sharing yet.
