Was I wrong.
The news is that they want to sell 3 million within the next month. I don't know what they means. Is that worldwide or just for the U.S. I have a sneaking suspecion that there will be a few 360s available on Black Friday. It sure is a brilliant strategy so far for only being day 2. Create demand then ship the supply. That is unless they are having production problems or shipping problems. But I think withing two weeks, if you are willing to pay retail you'll have one.
I think you're pretty far off. MS is doing as close to a simultaneous world-wide release as has happened for a game console. The 3 million units you are talking about (I heard that on the news radio, "MS expects to sell 3mil. 360s in the next 90 days") are divided among all three regions.
I find it odd that not only did some stores not receive the insanely small number they were supposed to get (see the Sears I checked that was told they would get 2, but got none), but also they have no clue when they will be getting more. Anything you hear at a store about future shipments is pure speculation, based on the launch of other products, and thus not applicable in this situation.
I highly doubt that stores that do not have units to sell today would have them to sell on Friday. Maybe so, but I don't find it likely. The manager at my local GameStop in NYC (again, 270 preorders; 58 in the original shipment) thinks that they will be getting 3-6 a week for the forseeable future, but he is also just speculating.
I do think that, due to the world-wide release, this will be a carbon copy of the PS2 release, where if you didn't get it on launch day, you were lucky to get one before February. Again, I could be wrong, but that's how it is looking from where I sit.
I hope you're right about Friday, but there's no way in hell I am going anywhere a retail store on that day. Well, actually, if I call a store and they tell me they have some I will brave it, just because I do think it will be my last chance before Feb. But then again, these stores are opening at 6AM and I'm not planning on getting up that early to call the stores (as if I could get through).
I'm hoping J&R does me right when I get back to the City. HA!
I just tried to weasel one from my contact at MS and no luck. In fact she said she couldn't even score one for herself. She said she didn't think there would be a decent supply until the new year.
Did they ship to Japan as well? Cause I would imagine there would be plenty of units just sitting on the shelves there.

Yup. Really gets my goat, too. But I guess that's their strategy. No matter how angry we might get at MS for this botched release, the vast majority of us will still get one when and if we can, whereas they need to do some serious convincing to get the Japanese on board.spooky157 wrote:I just tried to weasel one from my contact at MS and no luck. And of course, with region encoding, a Japanese 360 would be pretty hard to deal with here without some modding, so it wouldn't do us all that much good to get one shipped over here.

Where I work we got something like 46 units (I'm not buying one until probably summer). One customer (a man) waited in line and got one of the tickets basically saying that you could get one at 8AM when the store opened (first 46 in line got tickets).
The guy came in at like 9:30AM instead, thinking that they would hold one for him for that long - he was wrong. The guy was a real dick and he was yelling at everybody in sight. He was told to leave, but he didn't, and kept it up. They tried escorting him out but he wouldn't leave. So they actually had to call the police on him for him to leave, and he left before they got there.
If I wasn't there by 9AM I wouldn't have expected them to hold one for me.

Unfortunate. I know how much some of you guys wanted one. I'm not nearly the fan of the system that most of you are but there is still an undeniable joy in getting a new console. Hopefully Microsoft will be able to get the flow going before Xmas although that seems unlikely.

For those still looking for a system, I just wanted to suggest that ALL DSP members be on the lookout. I will certainly keep regular tabs on my local CC, Toys R US, Target and Walmart. If I should see a sytem, I will buy it and sell it to a needy DSP member at retail price, just pay the shipping.
I suggest others do the same.

Definitely looking out for one as well for Db and whoever else might not have one yet. A short time ago, I tried to be the 9th caller on a local radio station to win a 360, but didn't get through.dbdynsty25 wrote:And you know those of us who don't have one would appreciate it IMMENSELY. Hey guys, much appreciated. Don't go nuts searching, though.sportdan30 wrote:Definitely looking out for one as well for Db and whoever else might not have one yet. A short time ago, I tried to be the 9th caller on a local radio station to win a 360, but didn't get through.
Wife had a day off today to do some shopping and run some errands. I had her on the lookout for systems for you guys (I don't want one.)
No luck. She was at 3 different malls and checked alot of stores. Some stores have posted signs at the entry saying "We do not have any Xbox 360 Consoles." They must be getting tired of people wandering to all stores asking if they have any.

So, I just talked to a guy at J&R. He said the MS reps told them not to expect steady shipments until after February. He told me they may get small dribbles of consoles once in a while, but he doubted they would get any at all until after the New Year, although he then said maybe a few more on Friday will arrive (NYCers take note). He told me they received 200 units for launch, and sold out in 2hrs.
At least this guy gave me the skinny, as far as he knew. Since they are only selling them at the retail store, I can't do the 'notify me when in stock' email option. I guess the deal is to call every day and see if they got any in, which I will be doing once I get back into town.

Danimal, I called a few stores out here on the southside for you, but I didn't have any luck. Although, the Radio Shack on west 95th st by the Plaza mall will give you a call back when they get their shipment in. you may want to contact a RS out by you to see if they will do the same.Danimal wrote:Cheers to you, I will definetly hook someone up who does that.Sport73 wrote:For those still looking for a system, I just wanted to suggest that ALL DSP members be on the lookout. I can imagine that as mad as we are, the companies that made the games are even more pissed. If someone doesn't get a 360 until February, I can't imagine that he would want to buy a new copy of Madden. By February, I imagine that even if you did want some of the launch games that you could get them on ebay for a lot less than the price they are going for today.
Not to mention the retail outlets as well, particularly the dedicated game stores. These guys would be selling a ton more 360 games right now if more folks could get the machines, and they know it.kevinpars wrote:I can imagine that as mad as we are, the companies that made the games are even more pissed. And as you mentioned in another thread, I would do 550$ + Shipping.

I got lucky with the TRU preorder on Nov. 5th. Sure, it came with 2 games I didn't want, and a wired controller, but I just exchanged them at Walmart for $160 in store credit.dbdynsty25 wrote:That's probably true Sully. I'd really like a Premium, but I'm getting fairly desperate. If I can stay under 600 I'd be very happy.

So, in the end, I paid $450 for a premium system, and Madden. I'll use the credit to pick up some accessories.
Good luck with the search.
