Might be blasphemous, but I'd rather have Devin Booker than Winslow, especially with the direction that the league is going. Even in getting torched by the Heat the other night, Booker played really well. Its rough for a "shooter" to score 34 when you don't have any PGs on the roster.

They have a pretty good team, which could beat Toronto or Cleveland in the playoffs.

So where would they fit all these draft picks on that roster?

Winslow is a nice player but he's going to have to really improve his shot. Will he be as good as someone like Jimmy Butler some day? Maybe.
I can't see the Celtics beating either team especially Cleveland. Bron Bron tends to dial it up 10x during the playoffs and Toronto has been consistently good most of the year.

Winslow does need to improve his shot but the player you see right NOW is the player Miami was hoping for which is defense 1st especially with Bosh, Wade, Dragic and now JJ on the team. His shot has improved and it's all about experience and confidence. He tends to drive into the paint more but that can be fixed in the offseason.

The big surprise is Whiteside and his developed midrange shot and his FT ability. He's near 95% at the FT line in the last 10 games.

Yeah Booker looks to becoming a monster but again the Heat tend to focus more on defense so Winslow was their 1st choice. Hindsight, I would have taken Booker based on his crazy numbers.

Whiteside's rim protection ability is insane.

Teams should be lining up.

I'm not saying Boston will beat Toronto or Cleveland. Just that it wouldn't surprise me if they did. At the least, I think they will compete very hard against them. They were kind of on the rise last season. My recollection is that they got on a good streak to just make the playoffs and this season they've continued to show improvement. They don't have the classic go-to guy for tight games though. Their coach is real good though and looks like the players have bought in.

If they sign a big free agent, watch out.

Booker looks good but I think he would be a secondary player, kind of like Klay Thompson.

Lakers fans are hoping DeAngelo Russell is the next Curry.

Lot of promising young talent.

It looks like Coach Spo is getting the best out of Whiteside off the bench along with Richardson and Winslow add speed to the lineup. The added bonus is that the backups are scoring as much if not more than the veterans. The question is will Whiteside chase the money instead of fitting in Miami? The rumor is Riley is not sold on him being a max player.

There's so much money for teams to spend now that if Riley doesn't pay him, someone else will.

And that's a possibility as Riley and mgmt are not convinced he's a max player. He has his moments both good and bad. Riley could go in another direction as the NBA has gone small. Dwight Howard could be available. I'm not sold on Whiteside either.

No way they'll go after Howard. He wants $30 million per year. Plus his game is becoming less mainstream with the emphasis on small ball.

I don't think Howard will get $30 million from any team, not in this era of small ball. Besides he'll be pushing 31 and has been injury prone throughout his career.

From what I've read, the Heat will make a competitive offer to Whiteside and possibly a max offer if his game is worthy of it. Right now it's not.

Ah, the NBA thread....the only thing I have to offer most times is how futile my Sixers are. About a month ago they got hot (for them) but they have slipped back to competing for 3 1/2 quarters and then shitting the bed in the 4th. I am still positive though...in fact very excited about things. This offseason and next season are going to be fun.

1. Embiid recently returned from Qatar (yes Qatar :D) where he was at a rehab facility. Obviously all the rehab in the world won't matter if his foot didn't heal but all signs are very positive right now. He is in incredible shape. Last year at this time his weight was an issue and his immaturity was showing. Now he looks phenomenal.

2.Dario Saric's arrival in Philly is also looking good. Saric has pretty much said he is coming over for next season. The Sixers keep close tabs on him and all signs are positive.
http://www.nba.com/sixers/beat-sixers-v ... c-overseas

3. The Draft. There are a number of scenarios that could happen here and Ben Simmons is the prize. Looks like the Sixers will have the best shot at him but there are other options if the ping pong balls don't bounce right. My perfect scenario would be the Sixers get Simmons and Dunn in the draft. I would s*** myself :). A crazy scenario would be if the Lakers draft lottery becomes a nightmare and the Sixers get their pick. It's a long shot but what else do I have too focus on.

4. Future FAs. Yeah, I know "who the hell would sign with the Sixers!" There are positives there. First, the Sixers new practice facility (see below) will be open in the fall. It's going to be the best facility in the league. Also, they have $$$ to spend.

These are all IF IF IFs but I've got nothing else to hold on to.

It was a stinker of a game to go to, that's for sure. Ugh. Definitely not what I was expecting, BOTH Curry and Thompson were absolutely terrible.

I love this line from the CBS Sports article: "There was also a level of sloppiness that just couldn't be explained. You don't want to take anything from the Lakers, who played hard in completing the upset,".

Oh I can explain it, pretty easily. Sometimes ANY will play to it's level of competition including the mighty Warriors. Sometimes a team doesn't feel like playing a game and thinks it's an automatic win no matter what they do or effort they put in.

The Heat did good in this Draft. Both Winslow and Josh Richardson are producing, Winslow dropped 20 tonight. In the last 10 games Richardson has score between 15-20 points and he looks to have a good 3 pointer working. And what a pickup getting JJ after Brooklyn released him. :)

Maybe in any case but the Sixers. Silver had enough of the team being the laughing stock of the league and of Hinkie's "process," and he shoehorned the Colangelos in there. Brian Colangelo is no genius, but at least his goal won't be to run the team into the ground like Hinkie.

I'm not a Kobe fan, though his NBA accomplishments are certainly terrific.

This retirement tour is just one huge marketing exercise. He's being a good ambassador as he visits different NBA cities for the last time, which also happens to be the first time he's being a good ambassador.

It's amazing how some of the ugly episodes from his career has been scrubbed. They showed a picture of Shaq giving Kobe a piggyback ride. Of course Shaq is going to be at the game tonight. You'd never know there was any antagonism between them. Or any of the other former teammates who had problems playing with him.

Then there's the legal situation. Not just the rape case itself but how a mob of his fans stalked and harassed the alleged victim. Even Nike had to drop him after awhile but then after the 81-point game, all seemed to have been forgiven and it became a thing to have his jersey and other merchandise.

Wonder if the dark side of his career will still be a part of his legacy once all this fabricated feel-good atmosphere subsides. His business partners certainly hope not. Nike probably hopes the Kobe brand will be as big as the Jordan brand -- Jordan made more money last year from Nike than he made throughout his NBA career.

Jordan was/is a prick, too. So this is nothing new. Kobe's foibles are more serious due to the rape case, but he is far from the first reviled athlete to suddenly be showered with love and suddenly learn the meaning of class and grace in the twilight of their career.

For another even more prominent example, look up "A. Rodriguez, New York Yankees."
