Demo is here and I've played it for about 1 1/2 hours. I posted this on the official forum this morning:
"The demo almost feels broken to me. I feel virtually no proportionality between the controller and what's happening on the screen!? I started off with Rory at Kiawah, on Tournament difficulty. I couldn't get him to bring the club back more than 2/3 of his backswing and then it was very difficult to manage a downswing that would engage the golfer. I bet I had to * and fire a dozen times before I hit managed to produce a swing
I've tried all three golfers now and I'm having problems feeling any proportionality to any of them. I guess Tiger comes closest, but honestly, the feeling of actually controlling the swing just isn't there yet. I dropped back to Tour Pro, thinking that might help forgive some of my input errors, but no... same thing there. The swings I do produce have all had a slow tempo on the swing feedback meter report, no matter how I vary the movement with the swing stick
What in the wide world of sports is up with the putting? Even in Tournament difficulty, it seems like the putting interface is scaled to the distance to which you've set your aiming marker. Seriously, I can set my aiming marker at say 25 feet, and take a full rap with the putter and it will go 30 - 35 feet, at most. It's not requiring much at all in the way of feel for distance on putting. If I calculate the power needed to account for green speed and elevation change, I can set my aiming marker appropriately and let her have a full rip!?
I'll be curious to read the thoughts of others on this, but right now, I'm very puzzled at what I'm experiencing on the interface side of the equation. OTOH, I gotta give them props for finally stopping the camera drop to waist height during putts... the camera holds the height of the camera you chose for your putt - nice! Also, I finally got an answer to my question about cut-views in True-Aim; yes we have cut-views, but they leave a good bit to be desired. There's an awkward intermediate pan which frequently has a perspective disorienting angle and tells you next to nothing about what's happening with the shot. There's always a final shot of the ball at rest, but the camera angle is so zoomed and low that you often can't get much of a feel for where it actually finished. Both the Wii and the PC version of Tiger Woods Online do a better job with these final cut-views in their equivalent of True-Aim.
Sorry to rain on the parade here, but I'm calling it like I see it. Maybe I need to spend some more time with this and learn that some of my complaints are attributable to user error. Interested to get the buzz from others on this though."
