I am so close to canceling my preorder. Not because I don't like what I see...I just don't see myself playing it a lot. NHL 12 comes out only two weeks after Madden and that will absolutely be getting most of my gaming time until BF3. I traded in a number of games and preordered Madden for essentially nothing. I would just transfer the preorder credit to NHL12.

I'm using my $20 promotion for purchasing Madden, towards NHL 12. I'm going to give Madden a good chance this year.

Yeah, with the $20 Amazon offer, it's a no-brainer for me.

Incidentally, release-day shipping for me at Amazon was only 99 cents. Not sure if that varies depending on your location, but that plus the $20 off was a pretty great deal. Can't wait to get the game.

I decided to stick with my preorder after playing the demo a few more times. Hope I don't regret it.

Dare I ask what the overall sentiment is? I swear THIS time I won't read impressions and judge the game for myself. I refuse to be swayed!

Finally got around to playing the demo. It's a good game of football, just like NCAA is. I'd have to say that this may turn out to be the best year of EA football in a long time. That said, I'm in no hurry to pick up the pro game. I still prefer NCAA, and really always have. BUT this year's pro offering is really good. To hell with the nitpicky, whiney fanboy circle jerk over at...well, let's just leave it at that...

From what I read of people who have the retail version:

--It's slower and smoother than the demo, with Normal playing around the Slow speed in the demo

--Running QBs will take off, but thankfully immobile QBs don't seem to run

--Zone coverages a lot better

--First major bug: Can't seem to import draft classes from NCAA. Will have to see if that's user error because I don't know how that would be missed in QA

--In preseason, CPU subs bench players, but depth charts are a bit screwy when you get to the third string (WRs being on the CB depth chart, that sort of thing). Makes me wonder if it's a case of EA adding bigger preseason roster capability but then not having those rosters completely filled.

--It's a small number of users, but overall impressions seemed pretty positive.

Thanks, Bill.

So, uh, like, why is there still no pass interference? It's part of football -- you see it every game. Why does the slider maxed not work? Any particularly good reason for that?

I think a lot sounds promising, but I don't understand why they overlook details like this.

Boy.. I'm really wondering if I should just cancel my order and put it towards NHL 12/FIFA 12 - both of which I'm getting.

Mizzou -- it's a tough call. At times it plays extremely well -- then, at other times....not so much.

read the IGN review, here's a snippet :

Heading online, one major thing stands out: Communities. You can set up what are essentially clubs where like-minded players can join and meet up for heat to head and online team play games. It's particularly useful not only for finding players of a similar skillset, but also for weeding out assholes (which seems to be its primary function). The Online Franchise also got a makeover that gives players more options for contracts, and the draft, as well as the ability to manage the franchise via the website.

I guess professional journalism has been thrown out the window these days? Didn't expect to see cuss words in an article. Geez.

Well I'm pumped for the game. Not a franchise guy so if it plays well between the lines, I'll be happy.

You're canceling your pre-order becuase of those reviews?

One guy found the new options in Gameflow more confusing LMAO.

I just downloaded the full game on the season pass and I'll try it later. But reading Bill's reviews didn't make me want it less, for him those are stellar impressions. (No offense Bill) :)

I'm willing to bet this is completely false and will show how bad these people review games are now. They said OF didn't get touched.

I was hoping for a decent game out of the box, so to speak.. but I'll play it and see how it is.

Yeah I'm going to give it a shake at lunch. I couldn't ever just write a game off based on other people's opinions, personally.

I thought the same thing about the cursing in the IGN review, though. Even once early on when they had f#$*ing or something, too.

And as far as out of the box...I know Bill's a pretty thorough guy, but as far as I know, he's been using coverboy Peyton Hillis almost exclusively to base his easy-to-run comments on? I don't know--in the demo I didn't just completely tear it up running the ball on All-Pro, and I'm reading in other places that it's actually pretty tough.

I imagine it will always be easier for guys who really know football, but give him a trucking machine like Hillis and I bet it's a little easier than playing with mere mortal players. Then again, it wouldn't change the fact that Chicago leaving the middle of the field wide open on 4 straight ISO dives is a little concerning.

I don't know--I'm glad I only read reviews and impressions from other sites BEFORE I have a game, because I still manage to have fun with just about every Madden and NCAA game that comes down the pipe. I can tolerate the crap that they don't do well, because when I look at the total package, it "feels" like football, if that makes any sense. Sure, there's crap they should have fixed by now, but I can believe it's a football game, because the stuff that's so glaringly bad to some doesn't really ruin the experience for me.

I read some of the comments around and you'd think that Madden's development team personally showed up at their house and kicked their dog, fondled their sister, and urinated in their cereal bowl. I play what's there, and enjoy what I can. If something bugs me, I'll either find a way to deal with it, or stop playing.

BTW Josh Looman posted this at OS regarding the GI review. I'll say the reviews are in stark contrast to the user reviews at OS.
At the end of the day, we made the game for the fans, not reviewers.
I never designed one franchise feature this year with any thought to how Game Informer would like it.
Keep in mind....they gave Head Coach 09 a 25 out of 100.

Everything we added in franchise mode was requested by you guys...at the end of the day, if you guys are happy = reviews don't matter.

Right , they didn't make the game for reviewers. Don't they get bonuses based on the Metacritic score?

If the review was positive, he wouldn't be saying that. They're probably making a mental note to bribe GI next year or punish them.
