Re: Kinect Impressions
I'm on the ragged edge of leaping into the Kinect fray. I've noticed that I really have had no desire to play anything for the last several weeks. Just don't really feel the urge to turn on a console and bother with it. So I've told my boys that I'd throw in most all of my games on the Xbox if they'd be willing to scrap the Wii, and we'd trade all that toward a Kinect. I do plan on getting TW:ME, but never got into motion golf, so it's no biggie that the kinect isn't supported. I think I want to turn a corner on gaming, anyway, and just play games with the family. Yeah, I'm all over Marvel v Capcom3, but mostly because the boys loved 2
But I've found myself wanting to get healthy, spend more time with family, and doing far less couch jockeying.

I go through the same thing every once in a while. I think I've turned my Xbox on twice in a month. Been mostly doing PC games but even those few and far between. Kind of get this way every winter just in hibernation mode. For me usually it always turns around at some point.

Re: Kinect Impressions
Whenever I get the urge to spend more time with my family, I find that a nice short family trip clears that right up.

Well, as of today, we are Kinect owners. Picked up Kinect Sports along with the unit, and have had a ball. What's the best all around exercise software?

I'm a fan of EASA2. I have Your Shape: FE and like it but feel EASA has more variety, etc.Teal wrote:Well, as of today, we are Kinect owners. Picked up Kinect Sports along with the unit, and have had a ball. What's the best all around exercise software?

This sounds interesting

Activision partnering with ABC on motion-controlled Xbox 360 edition of brutal obstacle course reality show this summer.
"Wipeout In the Zone mimics the absurd obstacle courses of its TV inspiration, and players will be challenged with working their way through the show's challenges by running, ducking, and dodging. Of course, failure is an inevitable and frequent outcome, and players will be treated to visuals of their inglorious digital destruction.
Players will be challenged by more than 30 obstacles, which can be undertaken in one shot or as individual events. Obstacles explicitly called out today include Big Balls and the Smack Wall Sweeper. The game will also include audio commentary from the show's hosts: John Anderson, John Henson, and Jill Wagner."

Re: Kinect Impressions
Everyone still liking the Kinect? Thinking of selling off the Wii for it.
Re: Kinect Impressions
I love it for my kids and also for the exercise games for my students.
I would not recommend it for any other group and I would not have one on my own over a Wii.

Re: Kinect Impressions
We love it and there are more games coming out for it in the coming months - Dance Central 2, Just Dance, etc..
We got rid of our Wii a long time ago and the kinect gets much more use than the Wii did.

Re: Kinect Impressions
I have to say, even my daughter has stopped playing it except for when friend come over. Dance Central is a really good game. But nothing else is really interesting for more than one or two sessions. If you want a good dance game, though, it is hard to beat.
The Wii gets more use, but even it is collecting dust.
Motion control may be more than a fad, but it might not be fair to lump it in with console gaming, even though that's what you use to play it. At the ned of the day, most people want to sit on their couch and use an input device that is as non-intrusive as possible. You would think the Kinect would have this, but jumping and waving is a hell of lot more intrusive than hitting A or flicking an analog stick.
To be fair, I am considering picking up the UFC training game. We have Your Life Fitness, and it is a good program. I'm also fully aware that the UFC game might collect as much dust as the YLF game does. But I do like the idea of a more male oriented exercise game, and boxing and MMA have a nice set of exercises that translate well to the Kinect. Maybe it will get me to use it and lose some wight. It will probably sit unused like a lot of other exercise equipment and videos. But it got good reviews and like the rest, will work if you use it.
So if your thought is to dance or exercise, the Kinect is a good buy. for puzzle or action games, I'd have to give it a pass, so far.

Re: Kinect Impressions
Aristo, do yourself a favor and pick up Exerbeat for the Wii...it is much cheaper and a terrific workout.
BTW, I downloaded Fruit Ninja Kinect this morning and it is done very well.
My family should get a great workout with it.

Re: Kinect Impressions
Still have it for Dance Central and Michael Jackson along for the EA exercise program. Was thinking if anyone got the UFC training program, that would be my next Kinect game and ideally I would love to see GS Tennis making a debut for the Kinect.
Re: Kinect Impressions
My kids played the Kinect and barely touched the Wii again. We ended up selling the Wii. Currently we are having fun with the Wipeout game.

Re: Kinect Impressions
I really like child of Eden, but that's about the only thing that gets me to move the furniture and all that I need to do in my cramped NYC apartment in order to use the thing. But that's the type of game that really makes the kinect stand apart, and as a plus it requires no jumping. I am looking forward to the head tracking feature in forza 4 and other little features in various future games.

Re: Kinect Impressions
Are your kids or you still using the Kinect on a weekly basis? My son wants a Kinect, but I'm unsure whether or not it's worth purchasing. I saw one Black Friday deal for $125 which seemed
reasonable.
reasonable.

Re: Kinect Impressions
For us it usually only gets broken out during a party at this point. Dance Central, Just Dance 3 or Kinnect Sports Season 2. I've tried a few other games with it but so far nothing much has done anything for me. I don't think it's because it's a input deive issue more the games aren't really what I want to keep playing.
I don't regret buying it and wouldn't sell it because it has replaced the Wi as the casual party option.
Whether that helps you or not idk.

Re: Kinect Impressions
If you have a Kinect and have young ones at home, I highly recommend 'Disneyland Adventures'. It's the best thing next to being actually there and you will avoid the lineups too.
Besides the original clumsy controls, where navigating and walking around using only your body takes a bit of adjusting to do, kids just love the experience. Found it on sale for $30 and if you have kids between 4-10, they'll love it.

my little one wants it.
Re: Kinect Impressions
Is Kinect worth it for the newest Live update interface features? We are using the 360 as much for Netflix, media center type stuff(pictures, movies, music) as we do for games. My kids are 8(boy and girl) and both came home asking for a Kinect after playing one of the dance games at a friends house. The 'Disneyland Adventures' sounds interesting as well as they are both big Disney fans. My son likes Fruit Ninja on my phone. My guess is that it would have a short lifespan at my house. Did anyone ever try it using Forza for looking into corners, etc.? Of those of you still using it, how would you rate the top 5 games for Kinect at this point. Thanks.

Re: Kinect Impressions
I picked up DSA and KS2 last week when Amazon had them for $25 each. My Kinnect is now seeing life again the kids love DSA and I am getting a kick out of KS2. Also to respond to your question it has been a long while since I used the Kinnect so I don't know if it was because of the last dashboard update opr not but the voice recognition is a lot better. Being able to sait on the couch and talk to my Xbox and the integration of Bing make finding something and starting it very easy. I imagine this is how all the fat people on the ship on Wall-E started out
