Got one game in today. Fun stuff. Great announcing. I'll take Kruk over Morgan ANY DAY!
The pitching/batting is cool (still) & the fielders seem more "sane" than last year. I really look forward to schooling some of my buddies on XBL this weekend...

Is it just me and my crappy hitting, or do the pitches come in awful slow? I find I'm swinging wayyyyyy too early, though I'm sure a lot of it is rust too.
I'm not sure I like the new batting camera though......
edit: i probably just need more practice..... for some stupid reason i thought I should be good right away. I think the doctor calls that "testosterone".......
However, does anyone see the point of spring training? The AI seems to just play all their regulars?

Woohoo
After a game and a half tonight playing on Pro settings, I am having a BLAST!
The "batter" view zoomed in is a real treat.
Nick Blackburn threw 107 pitches aginst me in 7+ before they brought in the relief....never before could I work the count in any baseball game. Sublime.
Some animations are wonky, but other then that
I hit a hard line drive with Ian Kinsler down the RF line, and the ball curving foul looked and felt so GOOD. Terrific ball physics so far.
My only downer tonight was not being able to increase the CPU pitch speed.

One more day until the PS3 demo. What a long wait! Guys, how is the pace of the game? The Show still seems to take a while to play through. Why can't someone replicate the pace of High Heat?
Can you turn off the joystick gymnastics and just either use a meter or pitch with "classic"? For those of you who were not enamored with having to swing the stick one way and then back another way, how are you adapting?
Sounds like for the first time in a long while, we have two very good baseball titles.

The pitching scheme finally clicked so all is good on that front. Hitting in the game is also relatively easy whether you want to go yard or go for a hit.
I had fun with the demo. The game is leaps and bounds better than 2K9 which I still have but won't install it because of 2K10. I'm off to Target again to see if they received the PC version.

I'm insane and bought this for the 360, and The Show for my PS3 (hey, its baseball!)
I'm liking it a lot. 2K9 was my pick up and play game, when I just wanted to play with a couple of teams and not really do a season or anything. 2K10 seems to have fixed the biggest problem for me, that being the control of the fielders. I also love how it has the current days actual schedule listed so you can just jump in and play with the real teams, very cool.

hopefully I will get my gamefly copy tonite....
general consensus seems to be pretty favorable.
some common comments I have read:
-graphics better than in the demo
-great play by play
-great hitting/pitching matchups
-NOT a HR fest
-presentation top notch
-MLB today is great
-AI pitching will NOT throw all strikes
-too many line drives up the middle
-o/f arms way to strong (sliders?)
-fielders get to everything too quick - tough to get extra base hits
-online play a little laggy - you need to swing earlier than when offline
-AI doesn't take many pitcher (sliders?)
-some collision detection problems
-pitching may be too easy to pinpoint spots (increase meter speed?)

It's funny...I'm having more fun with this game than The Show at this point. Now, I still know for a FACT that The Show will be my game of choice after a few more days. Here's why:
I played three games of 2k last night and two of the games didn't include a single fly ball besides a home run. Seriously. TWO entire games. WAY too many line drives to infielders (this was a Show problem two years ago as well so it's not new), and too many groundouts...especially to the 2nd baseman. I was playing with the Dodgers in the 2nd game of my "flyball apocalypse" and Belliard had 15 putouts in one game. Come'on.
I've also had three homers robbed (including my very first at bat playing the game), had a ball go through the centerfielders legs and then him just stand there and watch it roll to the wall for a homer. I've hit a ball about 5 feet inside the first base bag and had the ump call it foul. I've had a guy thrown out at first from RF. I've had a guy thrown out at 2nd from RF on a ground ball through the hole (for some reason my guy on first didn't want to run). Just little things that after the new "freshness" wears off will piss me off and I'll shelve it.
It's a blast to play tho...the controls are fun to use (still not a HUGE fan of the pitching mechanic) and it's very quickly paced and it looks pretty good except for the horrible numbers and names on the jerseys. As usual with 2k baseball...they get some things right...but botch the important stuff.

Sheesh, those things you described (which to me are glaring) Db has me definitely less than excited. Still can't wait to play the demo and eventually the full game.
Can you increase the speed of the pitches with a slider? Everything I've seen from videos, it looks like slow pitch baseball. That's a definite concern for me.
I've read that the pitchers take a lot of hits away? Has anyone seen that to be the case?
Is anyone seeing the pitcher not covering the first base bag or stopping before reaching the bag?
Have the movements of the fielders improved? Too often, they looked rather awkward with the throwing animations, as well as running.

I haven't found a slider for pitch speed, but I didn't really look. It definitely is slow pitch when you're doing the pitching. When you're batting it is not too bad. It looks worse than it is when you're in the behind the pitcher view.sportdan30 wrote:Sheesh, those things you described (which to me are glaring) Db has me definitely less than excited. The pitchers don't seem to take too many hits away when you're hitting, but your pitcher is a badass fielder. Hardly anything gets by up the middle when you're pitching.
I haven't seen any pitchers not covering and the fielding is a lot better this year. More animations and a lot better throwing motions have improved it significantly. You can definitely tell the difference between throwing power of the fielders...however, guys like Furcal with strong arms are WAY overpowered. Literally throws bb's from anywhere...in and out of balance, off one foot, whatever. The gap is too big between poor and strong throwers basically.
Non issue as the Pitcher in that situation is set to semi automatic. Once the pitcher is tossed the ball you need to move the Pitcher to first base with the RS.sportdan30 wrote:Is anyone seeing the pitcher not covering the first base bag or stopping before reaching the bag?
Works 1000% of the time.

That's good to hear Rod. And thanks Db for your quick reply. Last question, because it did seem that the main issue people over at OS were complaining about was the throwing strength of the players. Do all the infielders have rocket arms? And do the outfielders throw off line?
Really happy to hear the throwing animations have significantly improved. That was my main pet peeve with this series for the last I don't know how many years.

Haven't noticed any offline throws, which is lame...and like I said, the difference between the poor and strong throwers is huge. The strong guys are WAY too strong. It's like throwing a ball a foot off the ground and it never touching the ground at all. No trajectory or arc. I didn't get much of a chance to test a bunch of different players because every f'n hit was to my 2nd baseman it seemed...lol.sportdan30 wrote:That's good to hear Rod. Yeah...they definitely have improved it. Things like that were few and far between in the 2k series previously.Rodster wrote:One nice thing about this years version is the AI, it plays much smarter. I had a runner on first, no outs and in a bunt situation the AI calls for a pitch out and throws to 1st base to try and pick-off the runner.
One other thing I like about this version is the bunting mechanics. I like how bunts are not as easy to pull off as in the Show. This scheme works better where once you press the X button you move the LS up/down & left right to place your bunt.
I'm also glad the kept the composure cursor for the pitcher. Trying to place your pitch when it's all over the place is a mini game in and of itself.
