I know that's partly due to availability issues on the PS3 but who would have guessed that a few years ago. Goes to show how price sensitive the video game market can be. This does not bode well for Sony imo.
Price sensitivity is part of it, but so is emphasis on gameplay. I think Sony and MS have focused more on graphics and online technology -- while not ignoring gameplay, not at all -- while Nintendo clearly is trying to stake its claim with fun, infectious gameplay for DS and Wii titles.
Sony and MS will remain king at DSP, but I think there are some longtime gamers like me who are gravitating back to the old-school gameplay and gaming fun that Nintendo offers with the DS and Wii.
I'm digging my DS Lite. The little f*cker is just plain fun, as much fun as I've had with offline gaming since the Dreamcast. But I miss online gaming with the DSP community on Xbox Live. The DS Lite can't replace that.
Take care,

I doubt the Wii will be able to replace that as well. I see it as my in-person multiplayer console.
Just downloaded the original Zelda from the Wii Shopping channel. In all of the footage I had watched about the Virtual Console, everything was cropped. Not sure if it is just Zelda, but it is filling my widescreen TV. It almost looks better than Wii Madden though!
Well, I finally got around to setting up the Wii. I took a little time reading other people's impressions before jumping right in. At this point, it's a bit hard to guage if people are thoroughly impressed with the Wii, or if the shine will wear off in a month. One thing is for sure. The Wii has a load of potential.
I messed around with Wii sports quite a bit. The games themselves are fairly bare bones and basic, but there is a bit of a coolness to them because of the Wiimote. The games are all enjoyable, with bowling and suprisingly golf as my two favorites. I really believe a deeper and more realistic golf game could be extremely fun on the Wii. Still, I found the sensitivity of the swing is taken in to effect which was nice. Of all the sports games, golf was the easiest for my four and a half year old son to pick up and play. One thing is for certain. As simple and as basic as these games are, the immersion factor is sky high.
I did get quite a work out playing tennis and baseball. I don't know necessarily that I'd always play the game with the over exaggerated arm movements, but it's pretty cool that you're able to play the games in that manner. As stated by Leebo, Virtua Tennis would be a blast on the Wii. Even baseball might add a bit of excitement to video games again with the potential of the Wiimote. IMO, baseball sorely needs a kick in the pants in terms of video game enjoyment, and the Wii is just the system to provide that.
I never did unwrap Zelda. I do think I might gamefly some games initially, including Zelda, because honestly I don't think there's an A plus game in the launch titles. Maybe Zelda is, but I'm a bit leary just because of what I've read, and I'm just not sure if it'll be a game I want to play over and over.
That's not to say I'm disappointed in purchasing the Wii. That's not my point at all. I just think with the potential of the system, and developers becoming more and more familar with the intricacies of the Wiimote and nunchuck, many quality games should be on the horizon. Because I still absolutely love my 360, I have to be a bit more careful in my selection of games.
There's just a wonderous amount of games that ultimately could be much more entertaining than any game I've played in years. I think the future looks extremely bright for the Wii.

Vigorous third-party support will be vital for the Wii to reach that potential because Nintendo never is going to create a realistic, licensed sports game or a military-style shooter -- the staples of success for other consoles -- for the Wii even though those would be fun as hell on that machine.
If Nintendo can get enthusiastic, widespread third-party support for the Wii, I think it can be a popular success and keep Nintendo as a significant console player for the long haul.

I went to the local videogame shop and they had all 3 new systems there.
PS3 had madden on and nobody was really playing it. It looked just like the 360 verison.
Xbox 360 had COD3 on. It looked absolutley amazing on the 32 inch hdtv. I was really in awe, but only 2 ppl were playing it.
Then Wii. There were about 10 people around the wii station playing the sports games. I got to play it too and it was really a great experience. The sports games are simple, but I can probably ply those for another month if I had to. Just the whole wii experience was fun. And everyone around it were from little kids to grandparents age. I just love that interface.
Right now I am leaning towards getting wii. It just seems like the ideal family system right now.
I liken the Wii to the DS Lite. Not all the games take full advantage of the stylus, but the ones that do are fantastic fun. I do think there will be many games that just won't fully adapt well to the Wiimote, but I can't imagine there not being many strong titles.
In regards to fully licensed sports games and classic FPS, the 360 or PS3 will still provide that avenue of entertainment. Which is why I will never sell my 360. I do think developers will at least make the effort to see if a semi realistic sports game can make it on the Wii. I don't think we have to worry about the Maddens, Tiger Woods, and NBA Lives not putting out a Wii release year in and year out. If other sports games, albeit generic ones such as True Swing Golf represent well on the Wii, then I think gamers will be enthusiastic about trying more generic sports games.
Without a doubt, the Wii is the epitome of a family friendly console. Sure, some of the games will be complex using the Wiimote. But, just look at the upcoming games for the Wii. There are a good handful of games that your wife, son, daughter, or whatever would have an easy time picking up and playing (Barnyard, Elebits, True Swing Golf, Wario Ware, Cooking Mama, Duck Hunt, Ping Pong, etc.).
MUTTS wrote:How deep/detailed are the bowling and golf games. What options do you have with equipment/courses. Are they realistic?
Thanks in advance.
Tony
Wii Golf is extremely simplistic. There's basically no options. 1 course, cpu picks your club. All you do is adjust aim and swing. The challenge is mainly in swinging with the appropriate power and not slicing or hooking your shot.
Haven't tried Boxing yet though.
You can change your club my using up-down with the directional pad.

I played everygame on Wii Sports tonight like I was doing it for real and not once did I feel like a moron.. I might have looked like one but I didn't feel like one...
My fiance and I played for a couple of hours together. I think our favorite is bowling. I can't wait to get another controller so we can compete. We were laughing the whole time. Its alot of fun. The games that can be made with this thing are endless.. I look forward to having more deeper sports games that use the Wiimote. This is my best console purchase in a long time.. I am truely enjoying it.

Hey...I could be wrong, but I think I read that you can use one remote for 2 player games in bowling....Is this not the case?

My wife is also promising to bowl with me on a regular basis. I will definitely make sure she has the wrist strap on though- don't want her hurling the Wiimote at the tv.

Holy hell, there's a wrist strap??? Is one of the accesories an old Jofa hockey helmet?
I do want a Wii, but i still picture neighbors looking through my large triple window watching me wiggle and shake like a crack addict after a week without crack.
Playing Wii Sports with my wife last night was a laugh-out-loud experience. Some of the animations during tennis cracked us up; it is really fun to make a goofy Mii and watch it move around out there.
After playing a little Madden, I realize how much I liked the 'last gen' engine. It just seems much smoother than the 360/PS3. But man, that is the ugliest game I've seen on my TV in a while. The control was fun on offense but the defense controls were lacking in comparison.
With the Wii's graphical deficiency, art style is going to be very important. A game like Monkey Ball or even Wii Sports looks crisp and vibrant while Madden just looks drab.
Anyone open Zelda yet?
Also, saw the front of USA Today and it mentioned Nintendo shipped 1 million units for the launch. That's an impressive number to ship and sell out by the time places had been open for an hour.
Just using the composite cables that came with it. I'll definitely buy the components as soon as I see them to see if the move to 480p helps. Not sure when they'll show up in stores, though.
Lovin' my Wii so far. It is exactly what I thought it was going to be, and that is a perfect compliment to my 360.
Picked up Rayman, Monkey Ball and Trauma Center.
I was able to find an extra Wii-mote, Nunchuck and classic controller Sunday AM at BB and Target.
Not much here for me to add that has not been said already. Had time to play with the fiance and she was having a blast. It seemed very easy to pick up and play for her. We played Wii sports for a while and then did some Rayman mini-games.
Like others have said, I cannot wait for this system to hit it's stride mid-next year. Until then, I am not sure how much continued use I will get out of it since there is really nothing on the horizon that interests me. That is my only concern with the system. The amount of quality titles in a reasonable time frame.
Question...does anyone know if the 'blue light' surrounding the disc slot is supposed to be light up at any point? I have not seen it lit up yet but know it's working since it flashes briefly when I insert a disc.

I think it is just upon startup, when you enter a disc, or if you have a message sent via the WiiConnect system.
Spooky, any more details about Rayman or Trauma Center? I have TC but haven't opened it yet and Rayman really interests me.

Thanks Dave. Haven't noticed it light up at startup either though...interesting.
Rayman is a very simple. straight forward set of mini-games. It is basically an extension of Wii Sports for a "show off the Wii-Mote and Nunchuck" use game. It is simple, mindless fun (especially if you have friends or family playing).
It has a single player game that is just a set of different mini-games to pass through and then go to another set. It then unlocks them for multiplayer. Graphics are Gamecube-esque. Control is spot on.
I have not opened Trauma Center yet either. I'll comment later once I have had a chance to dig in.
I've gone through the "tutorial" village stuff and just had my first foray into the Twilight Realm. The controls are working really well for me - no hiccups, miscues, or time when I said, "Gosh Tarn It! Let me just press a dang-fallutin' button!" (And yes, I have a tendency to swear like Yosemite Sam when I'm mad at myself)
From fishing to sword swinging to the wolf moves, I can happily say it is all good.
My only issue is with my uncoordinated right hand. Living in a right-handed gamers' world, I learned over the years to move with my left thumb and target with my right. The adjustment is taking some time. My right thumb is really poor at moving Link where I want him to go. However, it is not as bad as trying to use my right hand to aim with the remote! So until I "retrain" my right hand for movement, I lurch around and walk in circles before I can line myself up to climb a ladder. But I'm such a better shot being able to use my left hand.
Question: Does anyone wish to share console friend codes so our Miis can go walkabout?
Spooky, have you played Trauma Center on the DS? Just wondering how well it will translate from a touch screen to 'scalpel waving' controls. My ability to be precise with the remote is one of my biggest concers. I'll probably give in and open it tonight; if I do I'll post some impressions.
After playing the original Zelda, I now realize why I never got into it as a kid. How the hell am I supposed to know where to randomly place bombs and/or flames? I'm determined to beat the game though. I did learn that the Virtual Console creates a game save for you if you quit by using the "Home" button on the remote.
I read somewhere that 3rd party component cables were pushed out to December.
