Just a reminder to get your picks in before the Jan 2 games start (if you want to win a copy of the book, that is.) All Notre Dame picks will be made null and void by the contest organizers.

On a pretty cool note, the Gamer's Tome is listed currently as the "Most Popular" on the Que website.

What that really means, I dunno, but it looks cool.

As the Bama game is off and runnin' the contest is closed. Thanks to everyone that submitted picks. I really appreciate it.

Can the people that ordered the book via Amazon or Que let me know when they get their copy? I'm really curious as to when people will start to receive it.

Contest Update:

After sorting through dozens of contest entries, only ONE reader picked all 5 games correctly yesterday. Pat Keane (blog reader) is 5-0 and looking hard to beat as he also has PSU and USC as his final two. So if you have 4 games and also have PSU and USC -- sorry, you can't catch Pat.

Here's who still can catch him (or tie him)

Kevin " Go Bucks" Mosley (4) - Needs FSU win
Ralleymonkey (4) - Needs Texas
Jackdog (4) - Needs Texas
SportDan (4) - Needs Texas
Badgun (3) - Needs FSU and Texas

No one can pass Pat. If he's caught, we'll use the score tie breaker.

One more update post-orange bowl.
Badgun and Kevin are out after the FSU FG hilarity,

Pat Keane, a blog reader, has picked all 6 games correct thus far.

Rallymonkey, Jackdog, and SportDan - Need a Texas win to tie Pat.

Just to help clear up the tie break stuff. Thanks Rally, I should have posted this earlier.

Here's the Rose Bowl score predictions for those that are left:

SportDan - Texas 42 USC 35
JD - Texas 35-28
Rallymonkey - Texas 38-35
Pat - usc 42 texas 35

If USC wins, regardless of score, Pat wins the pool by picking every winner.

If Texas wins, we have a 4-way tie. However, Pat would have missed the tie break game, so he's out. The winner will be the person who most closely picked the final score of the Rose Bowl, calculated by total points.

So, if the score ends up 31-24 Texas, JD wins
If it's 45-40 Texas, Dan wins

So basically, JD wants a low scoring Texas win
Dan wants a Texas shootout and Rally wants it somewhere in between.

JD - 63 points
Rally - 73
Dan - 77

If the score ends up being even, say 75 points, I'll just send both people a copy of the book.

Hope that clears it up.

Not so fast. Has USC played a tougher defense than Texas this year? I don't think so. They should have lost to Notre Dame who has something like the 75th ranked defense.

Personally, I like Texas tonight in a surprisingly low scoring game. (under 65 total) We'll see. I suck at predicting so USC will prolly win 50-45.

Fantastic game. Vince Young catapulted himself above Leinart IMO as the better all around QB. There's really no reason why he should go back for his senior year unless of course he just has a prerequisite ball room dancing course to take.

Bill, thanks for running this contest. Really looking forward to reading your book.

Guys, I just finished it last night and it is a hell of an entertaining read! It really is much, much, much more than a compendium of reviews. There are terrific essays on a wide range of topics such as the greatest games of all time in different genres, modding, peripherals, and gamer culture in general. Bill, Todd and Que all deserve a round of applause for this one. If for some reason you haven't already ordered one, pick one up.

Seriously, if you like gaming enough to hang out here at DSP you'll love this book.

Rob, I really appreciate the feedback and I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the book. My biggest fear (outside of the lack of marketing) is that hardcore gamers won't get enough out of it and the fact that you liked it makes me a happy guy. (And thanks for ordering a copy, Dan, that's also very much appreciated.)

Anyway, I'm heading off to Orlando for a week to see Mickey Mouse tomorrow, so you guys enjoy the playoffs. Dan, I have your contest copy boxed up and I'll mail it on my way out today.

Bill, have a great time. I just got back with the family after spending the week between X-Mas and New Year's there.

Get your a** over to the new ride "Soarin" at Epcot. The fast passes will go quickly and the stand by line will be nuts, but it's worth it. Might be the coolest ride in all the parks now (and that includes Mission Space which is crazy).

I'll add my thanks to Bill's, Rob. I've been thrilled to see the positive feedback so far that we've received. And again thanks to all of you who are getting copies. Fight the power and all that BS.

That said, Bill's not kidding about lack of marketing support for this title. Unfortunately not every title gets a big push, so if I could trouble those of you who get it and find that you like it to head to sites like Amazon that offer reader reviews and post your thoughts it'd be of tremendous help to us. Maybe not in terms of sales this time, but certainly in terms of doing a 2007 edition of the book.

I'd like nothing more than to be able to walk into our editorial meetings in a couple months and say, "Right now this book has 100 damn five star reviews on Amazon, and plenty more glowing reviews from blog x, site y, etc. Anyone want to tell me why we shouldn't get behind a new edition?"

That would absolutely make my year.

Hey Bill, explain to me why I should buy your book when you won't accept my XBOX Live friends request?

Rally, thanks man. I'll be sure to hit that.

AJ, really? When did you send the invite? It's admittedly been a couple of weeks since I was on XBL.

Yeah, no big deal! You probably just didn't get it then.

It would probably be good literary karma if you accept it. Tom Clancy and Bret Easton Ellis both accepted my friends request, and look where they are today. 8)

Dan, I *finally* shipped the contest winning book copy last night. Really sorry for the delay on this. Rob and Kevin, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your feedback postings on Amazon. Thank you so, so much.

Jared, did you get your compt copy yet?
