One special thing about baseball history was that there was no such thing as a tiebreaker. Those 1 game playoffs at the end of the season were special things that you would see maybe once or twice in a decade. I mean who wouldn't like to see a 1 game playoff with Boston and the Yankees. If these rules were in place in the past, would we ever had heard of a Bucky Dent, a Bobby Thomspon, or other season end playoff hero's?
Not when both teams are in the playoffs. I doubt even the Red Sox would want it, since they'd have to burn a pitcher.
Same with the Yankees
I know, but of course they wouldn't want a playoff since they already won the division.
I'm saying I'd think a team would rather just take the wildcard, and be able to set up their pitching better than to have to use a pitcher in a playoff.

Astros/Braves on Wednesday.
Ok, Padres/Cards on Tuesday... I have meetings all day at work on Tuesday, but luckily our building is wireless so I can follow the game on my laptop...
glad that the rush for the Div and the WC is over. it was getting ugly. I'm a (red) sox guy and it was painful to watch. Yanks totally deserved to win it. they pulled it out in the last month and the sox ate turds. i'm not crazy about the wild card spot (i don't like being the runner up) but I'll take what i can get.
I felt like a filthy whore rooting for the Yankees yesterday. I took a long hot shower when I got home from the Jake.
What can you say? Things just didn't work out the last week. The young kids were pressing too much when it got down to crunch time, not being patient at the plate, swinging for the fences. Basically, they choked. I was amazed they kept their cool as long as they did.
But still it was good season, can't complain. 93 wins, better than 3 of the 8 teams that made the playoffs.
These guys will be back. Heck, only 182 days 'til Opening Day!

Your Indians have a good bunch of guys and they'll do some damage next season. What killed them was their inexperience in the end, like you said being impatient, swinging at any ball, I wouldn't call them chokers ,they just tried too hard.
Boston fans must be dissapointed even though they made it in the playoffs, to lead the division almost 90% of the time and to lose it on the last weekend is heartbreaking.
I like the Astros, being down I believe almost 15 games below 500 at some point of the season and to make it to the playoffs is huge, and they can go all the way, I feel.
Should be a good Game 1 - STL vs SD. I haven't watched Peavy much, but I've heard the guy can do just about anything with his FB, besides throw it 97mph in the 8th inning. I do think Carp will throw a gem today though.
Hey Braves..... kick some butt this series vs Houston. It's not going to be easy, especially with that pitching staff - YIKES!!

I thought Baltimore was in the Division lead during most of the first half of the season? Also, if you actually pay attention the Red Sox tied for the Division title this season with the Yankees and lost a tiebreaker. So did the Sox lose the Division or tie for it? They tied for it and would have played a playoff game against the Yanks if it mattered.
You know what is disappointing is losing a 3-0 lead by losing 4 straight games including 2 at home.
I second, GO BRAVES! If the Cards get that far, I'd rather play the Braves than the Astros.
Even coming off a three game sweep of the Reds, I'm less than optimistic about the Cardinals chances. Losing Al Reyes is a big loss for our bullpen. He was filthy against lefties and his E.R.A. was best among our relievers.
In addition, it seems LaRussa is going with his heart by pitching Morris in game 3 rather than Suppan. Wake up Tony! Morris is pitching like a bum. He's not even a shadow of what he was in the first half of the season. Of course, he's going to say he's good to go because he's a free agent at the end of the year and teams will be less interested if he says he's tired. Suppan pitched his butt off this year and deserves the start. Heck, he outpitched Clemens last year in Game 7 of the NLCS. I'd rather see Marquis than Morris in game 3. Anyone but Morris.
Here's hoping the Cardinals realize they have a strong need for a closer in the off season! I'd love to see Billy Wagner wearing the birds on the bat next season.
What a finish... Would have been a hell of a story if the Pads could have completed the comeback... Oh well, at least we have *some* momentum heading into game 2...

Al
Pads sure made it frightening. Definitely has to give them a little bit of confidence heading in to game 2. Who's going for the Padres in game 2?

Thought you're a Cubs fan? Don't tell me you're one of those who roots for both the Chi Sox and the Cubbies? In any case, maybe you despise the Red Sox.

Go White Sox!
I love the Cubs and Sox. I prefer the Cubs only because I was able to watch them on WGN much more than the Sox when I was growing up. That whole North-side / South-side thing was never there when I was a kid. That stupid s*** blew up when they started interleague play. I think that whole 'rivalry' thing is moronic. The 2 never played each other in meaningful games until interleague play started. I'm a Chicagoan through and through and I can't root against any of my hometown teams.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.
