Dont forget Steve Superior himself.

Won the Heisman..drafted 3rd overall...

Klingler, Thompson and Akili Smith - what a triumvirate of talent.

The only good thing about Thompson was conning the Bucs into giving up a first round pick after 4 years of him being shite.
Aah, the Lions got ya beat with their first rounders:

Chuck Long
Andre Ware
Joey Harrington.

Supposedly he has perfect mechanics and more accuracy than most college QBs already.

But one thing is he's like 6-2. So unless he grows a couple more inches, he's not going to be seen as the prototypical QB.
I saw his career (high school) stats in an article this weekend (sorry, can't find the link). 88 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. He might be worth risking a scholarship on. :D
Having a real coach in South Bend now should help him.

This thread points out busts as far as the pro's go but most on the list you guys are giving had darn good college careers.

All the top programs were after him before his junior year.

I guess Charlie Weiss came along at the right time and has two star pupils, Brady and Quinn, to entice Clausen to play for him.

Of course, Powlus was suppose to be a great prospect too.

Mais non !

Klinger (7th pick)
Thompson (3rd pick)
Smith (3rd pick)

Chuck Long was a measly 12th pick :D

Don't make me break out the heavy weapons and list the Bengals 1st round picks from 1978 onwards....now THAT is an almost remorseless listing of complete failure. You know you're dealing with a dangerous product when you have 3 1st rounders in one year and none of them are good.

But you did have 3 pro bowlers in there.
The Lions haven't sent a qb to Honolulu since Greg Landry (1972).
Now that's futile. And don't make me pull out the "1 playoff victory in 50 years" :D .

I like this debate on who's worse :D .

I've spent 29 years following Manchester City FC to exactly zero trophies and 5 relegations.

Arguments about futility are therefore second nature to me.

:D
