You need to get out of MN man. I know plenty of guys who sag down to the floor...but then they go hop on a surfboard. In fact, a majority of the people I know who "sag" are surfers, not gangbangers.

Maybe in California, but the saggers in St. Louis are gangsters, or wannabees. I imagine it is the same in New Orleans.

DB, I'm just relaying the video I saw--the dude definitely had to keep one hand on his pants to keep them up.

At my high school (not in MN), it was thugs, skaters, and wannabes who wore their pants like that.

As with most things, L.A. is not a microcosm of the rest of America. Most of the "saggers" here in upstate N.Y. are bangers and banger wannabees.

Not much surfing going on here in Syracuse.

Take care,

I'm sure this is butchering what I learned in a criminology class, but I think the sagging thing came from people coming back from prison without belts. Kind of a badge...

so naturally, white suburban kids would think it is cool, copy it, and make it an *sscrack showing epidemic.

Is it proper to spend emotional energy when you read of looters raiding HOSPITALS, robbing medical personnel at gunpoint when they go out for a breath of fresh air, and essentially holding people inside the hospital hostage?

This kills me.

Please remember all Black people are not like the a$$holes your seeing on the news.

The majority of us were raised to respect other people's property. The ignorant idiot's your seeing on TV is a prime example of the "Couldn't put the dick down" welfare mom's that could give a $hit less about what their kids are doing. Hell they are more than likely helping them. Also the"Playa's" that father these kids and never do a damn thing to help raise them. Idiot's having idiot's.

Today on NPR I heard a reporter interview a thug. He ask him why he was looting. He tries to justify his stealing by saying "The cops ain't doing nothing to stop it. So it's cool". Where in the f*** does that kind of mentality come from? Jesus it pisses me off.

Where the hell is the Black leadership? Al? Jesse? Nevermind, they would make excuses for what they are doing. Scum.

These people are stealing from their own people. They are helping bankrupt and kill these shop owner's American Dream.

They need to be shot on sight. You loot. You die. Period.

Damn it makes me sick.

New Orleans will be back, but I'm afraid this disaster might help to ghetto-ize any remaining nice areas in town. Crazy crime rate will probably stay very high for a long time after this. If they don't get organized and reconstruct in an organized manner, New Orleans could turn into something like Port-Au-Prince. I'm exaggerating, it's more like P-Au-P right now, but still, the potential is there given how poorly managed the city is.
Did you guys know that a direct hit on NO was one of the top threats to national security based on an NSA assessment? They sure aren't acting like it was now. Maybe it's just me, but the aftermath effort seems a bit anemic. I know the streets are flooded, but big military trucks would have no problem wading through most of that water. I haven't seen anything like that. And like someone said, where are the boats?? The Mississippi river could be used as a 'highway' out, as it was in the days before cars, but nobody seems to be using it as a resource. Again, I know this is a lot of monday-morning-quarterbacking on my part, but I think I'm making some valid pleas.

How many hospitals have been hit? How many total looters are there? Maybe a few thousand, likely a few hundred?

Did they take babies out of their incubators too?

There's all kinds of crimes being committed on a daily basis. This is a violent society with a big underclass. These daily crimes are no longer remarkable because we know there are "bad" areas in every major city in the country.

So why is anyone surprised if there's looting going on because a lot of homes and businesses have had to be abandoned? We know in most big cities, you can't leave your car unlocked or just leave a bicycle on the sidewalk without locking it up.

Trying to eliminate looting is going to be no more successful than eliminating muggings, thefts, armed robberies, murders, rapes, etc. which occur on a daily basis across the country.

Well I have one legitimate reason that LA is better...

I went to lunch at Baja Fresh today with some co-workers and the hottest freakin' blonde chick rolled in with her friend. Nice cans (not fake either), long legs, nice tan and a ridiculously gorgeous face...they just don't grow em like that in other parts of the country. For that reason alone, I will never leave the west coast (I'll go as far as AZ...but that's just because they are Los Angeles Jr. over there).

What's unfortunate is that people may decide against making donations to the Red Cross and other charitable foundations after seeing the anarchy that is transpiring. They may think "Why should I donate money that's going to go to someone who's just stolen clothes and electronics?" I pray that does not happen. And don't worry Jack, we here at DSP don't view African Americans in a derogatory manner. There's plenty of white scum who's just as bad or worse. Just watch an episode of COPS!

We are now seeing what would happen given we did not have policing in our cities. It's apalling and I now have greater respect for the men and women of the National Guard, the Police, and Firefighters.

How about modeling New Orleans after Venice, Italy. Imagine a city filled with canals and seaports. That would definitely draw tourism and maybe also succeed in lowering crime as it would be more difficult to get from one part of the city to the next.

Just a thought.

Just heard on NPR that the big concern is disease. There are a lot of bodies floating in the water -- casualties could be in the thousands.

So the govt. appears to be preoccupied with restoring services and public health. I'm sure establishing order is important too but I wonder how they prioritize things.

You said that right. The anarchy going on in N.O. and Miss is a walking advertisement to the fact that the NRA "gun nuts" those on the left love to hate were right after all

Yes, because the easy access to guns we have has allowed these idiots to rob the Wal-Mart and steal firearms, which they are then firing at the police. f***in brilliant.

The federal response to me has also seemed a bit slow. I realize that there's a huge amount of devastation, but it would seem we could have some troops there sooner in order to keep the unrest from getting out of hand.

EDIT: Just saw they had 10,000 more Guard troops deplotyed and have nearly 30,000 in place, so that is quite a few deployed in a short time.

Crooks certainly don't go to the gun store and get their warez. They get them on the black market which means the only ones having them would be the crooks if guns were outlawed. If you were stranded in NO I bet you'd want one

Out of all the things these people can steal, they are taking 9 dollar shoes from freaking walmart. You could not pay me 9 bucks to wear those damn things.

Blueduke, that's exactly what happened in NO -- people were looting Wal-Mart and arming themselves. There's armed bands of people brandishing guns they just lifted from stores.

As for having a gun in NO, I would have gotten the f*** out of Dodge in the first place. Unless I was too infirm to leave, I would have been gone after the first warning, at the very least to a shelter. I can understand why people stuck it out but that wouldn't have been me.
