Thanks to everyone for the good thoughts for my family. It's been a pretty crazy week, but I'm doing OK.
Here's the update:
My mom's surgery was successful and she could be moved out of ICU to a private room to recover as early as today. I'm headed to Dallas tonight to spend the weekend with the family, so I guess I'll know more during the weekend. It's been a good news day for my family, really.
A cousin, who is like my little sister, was visiting friends near New Orleans, and last we heard she was evacuating to another friend's home in Mississippi -- near GULFPORT. She has gotten word to us that she is fine. The home she is in, was pretty much inland and did not sustain damage, though local phone service was just restored last night. They still do not have the ability to call long distance.
As I said earlier, I'm headed out of town until Monday, and probably won't check in over the weekend. Thanks again to all for keeping me and my family in your thoughts.
