I will say that I played this game for an hour or so before MotoGP last night, and from about 8:30 until 1:30 afterward. It is an unbelievable, unbelievable sim.

I spent a ton of time learning the lines on the first track in the rTrainer open wheel cars, and it felt so incredibly old-school. No cheater map to stare at, just track memorization and proper corner entry/exit. Seeing the front wheels lock up when I used too much brake was a joy. For the first time in a racing sim, I've found myself using a camera other than the cockpit, though. The "TV Cockpit" is truly remarkable. It still moves as if your head is watching, but it has a triple mirror at the top of the screen for middle/left/right sides. I can't tell you how f'n cool that is when dicing with the AI cars.

By the time I had the first track down, I was starting to use subtle drifts through some sweepers, bouncing tires off the rumble strips and generally pushing the envelope more than I should. Consequently, I came in dead last due to multiple spins :D

The oval I blew them away on, but the next track was an incredibly tough one for me...lots of blind corners, decreasing apex sweepers, tight hairpins and a chicane thrown in. It took me probably an hour of practice laps to keep pace with the AI on that one, which brought a smile to my face the likes of which I haven't had in a while.

Since I started with all the assists off, I kept killing the car at first whenever I stopped...it's really tough for me learning to use my right foot for the brake and using the clutch pedal as a clutch, lemme tell ya. Still adjusting, I might turn the auto clutch on and just leave the shifting on my paddles. I quit using the Act Labs USB shifter because I wanted the quick up/downs, and then assigned the brake bias to the little stick on my Logitech wheel. Lemme tell ya, this thing is going to own my soul.

I went to sleep dreaming about it, I woke up talking about it to my wife...she's already telling me to shut up about it and it hasn't even been a full day. Not good for her :D

Well, I may have to get this darn thing too! I hope my pc can handle it. I bought this pc for everything BUT gaming as I usually let my consoles perfrom that function. I think this might be able to handle it though even with shared video ram?
Or I might just go buy a new PCI video card LOL!!

Terry, how is it with the DFP? Is the foce feedback realistic? If so, I need to get it just to use my wheel. I don't own anything to utilize it anymore. Damn't wish the wife was home now to get some permission LOL!!!

The force feedback is phenomenal. First game I've played in a long time where I think it's actually more helpful than hurtful. I prefered to use my DFP (and was faster with it) over my TSW Formula, which was odd.

But being able to map all the commands to the various buttons, as well as the FF, made it a better choice for me.

I smell a league forming...:)

Anyone try out the DSP dedicated server yet? I am interested to know if I need to do anymore tweaking. I spent most of the night working on it after our Moto GP session.

Terry, have you tried out the Euro F3 mod or Lime Rock Park yet?

I checked before my last session in the Advanced Trainers and it wasn't up yet.

I got Lime Rock but didn't see the F3000 thing. Read about it but didn't look very closely. Was too busy buying a second Trainer and upgrading it for my 1st career race in the new series.

I dl'd the demo and while it is OK, I would have to say the fianl version MUST be leaps and bounds ahead of this. Especially by all the raves its been getting. This is a multiplayer demo, but you can add AI guys.

Yeah, that demo is almost a year old and it was merely released to test out their net code. It was not intended as a proper demo of the product.

I believe they will offer a refund if not satisfied:
Request a refund.

Most of our products have a limited time money back guarantee.
If you are experiencing a problem with your product, we are here to assist you in making your product work properly. Your satisfaction is our highest priority. If you have already submitted a support request within 48 hours of purchase, you do NOT need to submit a refund request at this time. We will honor your refund if your first attempt for technical support was received by us within the money back guarantee period. If our customer support team is unable to solve the problem you are having, you can then submit a refund request or reply to us. If you would like technical support at this time, please click your 'back' button and select the appropriate question.

However, if you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you may request a refund provided that (a) you have permanently uninstalled the software from your computer, and (b) the refund period has not yet expired. Refund periods vary depending on the website from which you purchased your product. The typical refund period is 48 hours from the time of purchase to the time we receive your initial request. In some instances, it may be longer. Customer Support will inform you if your refund period has expired.

Qualifying refunds are processed within 14-21 days after your request. Please do not submit multiple requests, since this will not expedite your refund and may actually slow the processing of your original request. Also, please do not dispute the charge with your bank as this will prevent us from being able to process your request.

After you submit a refund request, a case number will be created for you and you will receive an e-mail confirmation of your submission.

I purchased an unlock code using paypal. I'm waiting for it to arrive (24-48 hours they say).

In the meantime, I'd like to download the 380Meg required, then when the unlock code comes I can just activate and go. Anyone know where I can download the files for the game right now, or do I have to wait to be given a link to the files when I get the unlock code e-mail?

Anyone interested in setting a time for some online racing? I know there is a lot going on with Moto GP 3, Rainbow 6, the Hockey games, NFL, etc. but I would love to try out some multiplayer F3 or trainers with the DSP crowd. Just let me know.

I would love to. I hopped onto your server last night and ran a little bit.

Obviously tonight is out unless it's after the Raider game, but I'd definitely love to check it out.

Assed out or what?
I have P4 2.0Ghz , 128Meg 9700 Pro, 1GB RAM. I seem able to run at 1024x768 with alot of graphics options turned on and it is relatively smooth. Going to check with FRAPS now to see how the framerate is

Hmmm...The server was up. It appears Jamie connected to it at some point last night. However, it looks like ISI may have taken Racecast down for maintenance at some point last night, so maybe that is why you could not see it. My server is still up, but I don't know if you can see it without Racecast working. The IP address is 24.131.34.149 - I have switched it to running the F3 mod for now.
Adam Zerlin (ISI): RaceCast Server Maintenance Friday, Sept. 9

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The RaceCast server and all rFactor websites will be down on Friday, September 9th for a maintenance operation. There is no set timeframe. We apologize for the short term notice.

Yeah, I connected for a bit and ran some practice laps, but it was earlier than Terry would have (it was near the start of the football game.)

Ok, I have got four separate DSP Servers up and running on Racecast (make sure you install the most recent update):

http://racecast.rfactor.net/

All these dedicated servers are actually running on the same physical server. I have tested them out internally, but I need some external testing. This should allow us to run whatever class, car, mod you want without having to completely restart the server everytime. I have setup a Open Wheel, F3, SR Grand Prix (Touring/GT cars), and a simulated 24 hours server.

As usual the password for all four servers is superior. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

These are the default settings for each server unless otherwise noted.

Invulnerability: No
Stability Control: No
Auto Pit Lane: No
Opposite Lock: No
Traction Control: No

I am interested in starting a league or at least a designated rFactor poker night. How about Tuesday at 9:30 EDT for the first go round?
