You'll be fine. Based on my experience in online racing games, there are usually three packs of racers. The group in the front about 30-60 seconds in front of everyone (includes the guys that still have the last version and were practicing last night!), a group in the middle that sometimes can sneak into the first group or is a few crashes away from the last pack, and a group that is always bringing up the rear. There is usually great racing no matter where you end up.matthewk wrote:I will try and get online with you guys tonight, but be warned: I am much worse at video game riding than real life riding.

I snagged up a copy on my lunch, and my co-worker brought in his Xbox. I gave the game a quick play. Played one Extreme track, and raced on the new Qatar Grand Prix track. That Extreme track is fun. The 1200cc bike handled fairly "arcadey" but it was still a blast to race. Then I tried Losril (?) in Qatar. The bike I used was much tougher to keep under control, so the Grand Prix racing will definitely feel more "sim".
Played on a crappy TV, but the graphics were excellent even on that set. Can't wait to play on my 60" widescreen tonight. Looking forward to a night of racing after my fantasy football draft.

Yes, and yes.Weaver2005 wrote:I wanted to ask you guys if this game is fun to play offline? It sounds like it's a blast to play it online with a ton of people.
The Moto GP series for the Xbox -- different, sh*tty developer for the PS2 -- is one of the best console racing series ever, online or offline.
It's just pure quality.
Take care,

I GOT IT! Got the last copy at my local EB.
I returned home and ran a few races with my boy Nicky Hayden on the Sachsenring and Mugello. Graphics aren't any better, but then again the graphics for MGP 2 were superb.
Bike handling feels the same, but the braking feels different. The braking model seems less forgiving, as there's less sliding of the bike before it slides out from under you. That's a good thing, if you ask me!
Ran a couple of the fantasy tracks. Very fun. They seemed to be based loosely on the actual locales, which is very cool.
See you cats at 10:30 p.m. tonight!

Any tips? I'm a weaving, off-roading SOB.
Don't overthink things. It's the same as a car -- slow in, fast out. Take good lines like you would in a car, realizing that you better be a bit more precise than a car because you can't pivot or slide the bike as much as a car to make corrections.
See you tonight!

The smoothness is going to take a while, I can tell. I tend to be a 2004 Fernando Alonso when it comes to turns--yanking the controller from lock-to-lock in a hurry. But I have had that string of 3-4 corners where everything comes together, that makes it all worthwhile. So, for me, this game will be the golf of racing games--the few good corners will make me forget about all of the time in the sandtrap.
Not sure I'll be able to race tonight--have to help the wife get a lot of work done before the extended weekend.

Just random thoughts I had about MotoGP 3 while searching through options and then playing through some of Grand Prix Career mode.
* One thing I notice right off the bat is that engine braking in this game isn't nearly as effective as it is in MotoGP 2. Can't just enter a corner hot at the turn-in point and just let off the gas and be able to clip the apex. I have to use the brakes a lot more now.
* Since MotoGP 3 is based on the 2004 season Losail (Qatar GP) is included, but no Suzuka. Istanbul (Turkish GP) and Shanghai (Chinese GP) will probably be on the next version of MotoGP, but that's getting way ahead of ourselves.
* There's no 0-100% adjustable Sim option in this game unlike Part 2. But just by playing this game for a while several hours after playing Part 2, the handling seems to be much closer to 100% than it is to 0%.
* CPU opponents are still ruthless as ever at higher difficulties. They'll knock you down if you're ahead of them and moving in/near their racing line at a slower speed. Those sons of b------.
* Not only can you customize bike design and logo, but you can now customize riding leathers and create a logo to have in the front and back of it. Can't do anything to change/customize any of the 10 available helmet designs though.

You were plenty fast. That race in which I finished three-tenths behind you was epic.
Some of these street courses are GREAT. They really give me a Moto Racer and Moto Racer 2 vibe from the PSX, a great, fast motorcycle racing series by EA for that console.
I do miss Suzuka. But I love riding as Nicky Hayden!
I agree with Kruza about the engine braking. And the mechanical braking doesn't seem quite as powerful in this game as it did in the first two. My braking points on familiar tracks from the first two games are too deep for this game in some spots.
Great game. Really enjoying the competition.
Take care,

I was presented with an option to select a rider when I logged on. I wasn't sure what to do so I just selected my own created character (I'm assuming that's what it was since all the stats were low). It was pretty cool because I earned enough experience during the night to upgrade 2 or 3 times.pk500 wrote:I love riding as Nicky Hayden!
Should I be selecting a Pro for online racing? How much does it really matter?
I'm sorry that I couldn't race with you guys last night. I kept getting bounced out the lobby just before everyone re-enters it after they had finished racing. My connection was terrible that whole evening.
Yeah, you should use one of the Pros whenever racing online until you have built up a lot of credits for your own bike(s). Then it's better to use your own online once you max out (or nearly max out) the credits you've earned.

I should have been more specific: Right now, I love racing as Nicky Hayden offline. I don't have enough credits or the rank yet online to race as Hayden, one of the later unlockable riders.
Reigning champion Rossi, obviously, is the last pro to unlock.
I think I've only unlocked three or four guys through online racing. I got up to Shane "Shaky" Byrne last night, which is cool. I like Shaky.
Big fun. I'll probably be on tonight and will look for you cats!
Take care,
