sportsdan got a mac recently? spyware shouldn't be an issue. You can find p2p clients at versiontracker.com.

I've had some success with Poison and of course bittorrent.

I sure hope your friend is using some sort of IP blocker, as the RIAA sends its sniffers out in force to popular P2P networks like Gnutella, which Limewire uses.

I wouldn't touch Limewire with a 50-foot pole. Downloading from it is like f*cking a Bangkok whore without a rubber.

Dang it Pk. You made your point the first time! My friend is to weak to be thrown in the slammer.

Now, Limewire does offer a "Pro" version upgrade which costs around $20. Would that compare to the other services such as Napster, Itunes Music Store, etc...?

The Limewire upgrade just gives you more features in the client software but I believe you'd still be downloading illegally shared files.

iTunes is a legal download service. You pay by the track or album and you own the song. Only downside is they're only 128 kbps tracks. However, they're AAC so they're more efficient than most MP3 tracks.

Napster is also a legal service but what they offer besides downloads is a subscription service where for like $10 a month, you can rent as many songs as you want. You download them and listen to them but when you end your subscription, you can't play them any more.

However, I'm not sure Napster supports Macs. I know they're DRM songs dont' work on iPods, only WMA players. They did have a Mac version of their client when they were an illegal P2P client but not sure what has happened since.

I just get torrents because they're almost always whole CDs but you can't always get what you want. Never bought a single song for download. Just will buy CDs and rip them myself.

I'm sure "My Hooptie" can not compare to "Chief Boot Knocka"

Surely the greatest providers of footy songs are Half Man Half Biscuit ??

"Dead Men Don't Need Season Tickets"
"Gubba look-a-likes"
"The Referees A-Z"...'the G is the gnarled face of someone on £80,000 per week who reckoned he should have had a throw-in'

Oh yeah..what am I listening to ? Other than torrential rain (see my post about Bavaria), I am mostly playing the following

Frank Black - Honeycomb
Godspeed You Black Emperor - Yanqui UXO
TISM - Gentlemen, Start Your Egos
Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure
Harmonia - Musik vom Harmonia

and of course, for those journeys on the motorway between Munich and Vienna, what else but

Kraftwerk - Minimum/Maximum

Opeth absolutely kills, probably my favorite band ever. New CD is out next Tuesday, been listening to advance copy for the past 3 weeks or so and so far, it hasn't disappointed.

Stars - "Set Yourself on Fire"
Death From Above 1979 - "You're A Woman, I'm A Machine"
Feist - "Let It Die"
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - "Clap Your Hands Say Yeah"
Iron & Wine - "Our Endless Numbered Days" & "Woman King EP"
Xiu Xiu - "Fabulous Muscles" & "La Foret" (a little harder to get into, I'd suggest "I Luv The Valley" as a beginner track)
Sufjan Stevens - "Illinois" (title is longer, but awell)
Spoon - "Gimme Fiction"
Ryan Adams - "Cold Roses"
Bright Eyes - "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning" (this one's been jamming a lot lately)
Architecture In Helsinki - "In Case We Die"
Belle & Sebastian - "Push Barman to Open New Wounds"
Arcade Fire - "Funeral" (still still still on the regular) and "Arcade Fire EP" (not as good as the LP but still pretty good)

Neutral Milk Hotel - "From The Aeroplane Over the Sea" has proven to be a good CD to listen to on nice summer days. And I'm always listening to some of the Microphones, Elliott Smith, and the Decemberists in a sporadic way.

Hows that red chord album Scoop? Heard a couple on Sirius sounded cool.

There's entirely too much friendliness in this thread. Let's get this down to Madden-thread levels.

Roxy Music/Eno ... crap
Foo Fighters...crap
New Pornographers...rock crit approved crap
Arcade Fire...overrated but not quite crap
Sufji Stevens...baroque precious overly self-conscious crap.

And I know, I paid actual money for most of those :)

Well, there's where you made your first misteak

I'll agree w/ you on the Arcade Fire. They've been hyped to God-like levels; I was underwhelmed when I finally heard them, but it's not crap.

Sufjan Stevens can record albums for all 50 states and the District of Columbia and he won't top Ray Steven's "Gitarzan".

I like the New Pornographers but I acknowledge Twin Cinema isn't as insanely catchy as the old New Pornographers.

But how can you not like Roxy Music?

Nicely done with the "their" instead of "they're" or "they are" after correcting SF.

If you spoke/typed proper English (you know, from our side of the pond) I would go back to counting threads. As it is, you're making a fool of yourself so I've been distracted.
