Any interest here in Delta Force: Black Hawk Down?

Yeah...at this point I'd say save the $$$ and get GR2 expansion and use the left over cash to get Mechassault 2 as it is only $19.99 new now ($15 pre-owned). For those of you who never gave MA:2 a try, now could be an opprotune time!!! I am looking to pick it up again as my EB buddies are starting to play it again.
It was a very fun, and underrated game that could be a DSP hit if enough people were to commit to a few sessions! More strategy than you'd think....

I actually like this game for the massive scale battles and the fact that teamwork will not only beat, but will decimate an opponent. I can't think of another game wheer teamwork is so important. Send single and even paired up people out to battle is like sending a lamb to slaughter in this game. You not only need a group of guys to achieve an objective, you need the correct roles (i.e. three to four gunners with a medic and a CBQ, a sniper covering them from a snipe point). This makes the game much more strategic than I first thought.
I played a couple of game of CTF and some Team DM. I'm not a big Deathmatch guy, but I enjoy the fact that it is like BF whereas there are spawn points in the middle to take over. Scoring system is also nice in that it actually gives you points for capturing spawns and performing medical saves on people (gives people a reason to use the medic, even though they can't heal themselves). A new twist in CTF, there are actually a set number of flags scattered around the maps for each team, and instead of attacking a single point on the map, you have to collect all of the opponents flags to win. Spawn points are also strategically placed throughout the maps in this game.
The Novaservers (Novalogic's 50 person servers) are damn near lag free. I haven't played on non-dedicated server yet, so I can't attest to the lag other people have been seeing, and I haven't been DCed at all yet.
All in all, it's like taking the 'role-based' FPS (role-based meaning Medic/Sniper/Gunner/Artillery roles determining your base weaponry), and putting it into a massive scale war environment. I was and still am a huge GR2 fan, so I will still pick up the expansion. But where GR2 is a small scale strategy shooter, this is a massive scale strategy shooter for the good FPS player.

Hmm, well now Millennium is giving us the other side of the story. No question that the draw for this game is the combination of large rooms and player classes. It's good to hear that the strategic/teamwork elements are important to success/having fun. That's exactly the kind of element that is heavily lacking in Xbox shooters. Teamwork is great in SC:CT for example, but a really good spy can do it all himself. Teamwork would be nice in GR2, but it very easily descends into an every man for himself type game.
If this game were $30, even $40, I'd be all over it. Maybe I will gamefly it. But again, I really want to get with some other DSPers, even if it's just 6 or 8 of us in a big, Novalogic-hosted server. It's good to hear those servers are delivering as promised, though I wonder if you can tell how many are on the server at any given time.
It sounds from Millennium that the title would deliver what I am looking for if there are some more DSPers with us. Now I'm tempted again. . . . Maybe in a few weeks its price will drop.

Agree. I would consider this game for $29.99 or less.Zeppo wrote:Now I'm tempted again. . . . Maybe in a few weeks its price will drop.
Problem is, by the time the price drops, GR 2: Summit Strike and possibly Rainbow Six Lockdown will be out. A little sports title called Madden 06 will gobble some gamers' time, too.

Take care,
PK

I gave it another try last night and just cannot get past the presentation and the issues with the servers I connect to.
More issues:
-The loading times are horrible.
-The maps are bland.
-I keep getting a 'This connection will drop in 20 seconds' message about every 10 seconds or so in most all of the sessions I have been in, but then it never disconnects. The message just sits in the middle of the screen obstructing my view.
-The riffle sounds are bland at best.
-When I get shot I feel no controller vibration. When I am killed it feels very disconnected.
-Still have not been able to successfully connect to a dedicated server for a 32-50 player game. Keeps telling me the sessions is no longer available then I have to wait another 45 seconds or so for it to refresh.
-Highly doubt that I would ever find a session with enough mature people to actually take advantage of the strategizing aspect.
-Graphics are really dated looking.
-Map and HUD to me is very unintuitive.
I am sure there is some fun to be had in this game, I just do not think it is worth struglling through all of these negatives to get there. IMHO, there are much better military style shooter online games out there for much less money. And I am serious about saving the cash and putting it towards the new GR2 and then taking the leftover $20 and geting Mechassault 2. Talk about a great game to take advantage of using team strategies!!!

First to Fight co-op is great online. It had a nice, short run here among DSPers in the early summer.
Take care,

Wow, total opposite of me! Besides load times and the HUD, the other things I have not seen. To me, the graphics look exactly like BF2 for the Xbox. So that doesn't bother me. The maps are all set in Somalia, so they do all look some what a like, but there are a lot of differences I've found. I've played a bunch of 50 man games on the dedicated servers and some on regular servers and have never been booted or even saw that message. The last game I played was 22 on 22 and I had a very mature team, most of the "Halo 2" kids are gone already because it's not as easy as Halo 2. I have more detailed impressions over at OS, but so far, it's a solid purchase. As I said over there, if it was $40, I would tell everyone it's a must buy. I'll say one thing, it's a 100X better than Mech Assault 2, that game was just plain awful. There's a reason it dropped to $20 2 months after it came out for being a "HUGE" MS title.Spooky wrote:I gave it another try last night and just cannot get past the presentation and the issues with the servers I connect to.

It's been 8 months actually. And even Halo 2 dropped down $10 to $39.99 about 6 months after it's launch. Not sure why I am defending it really...I can see not liking it, but I found it very entertaining and a lot more strategic than most would give it credit for.ExtremeGamer wrote: I'll say one thing, it's a 100X better than Mech Assault 2, that game was just plain awful. As for BHD, I am just not feeling it. I really do not like the sniper rifle too. The scope seems very short.

I'd form an opinion but it seems every game I join ends up with me staring at a "Game session is no longer available" message despite me never disconnecting.
Add that to the 10 minutes I spent in a heli that would never seem to land and overall I have to say stay away :/ I'll probably use this to pay off my summit strike preorder.
