That was the best of the old madden games. It was a great game and I probably played more videogame football off that game than any other. If you dont know, you can now buy this game with the TVplug-and-play game devices for about $20*. It also comes with NHL95.
Brings to mind the concept of head-to-head season play, which is frankly my favorite way to go through season mode.[/quote]
You know that madden 2006 will allow you to do this online right?
"The additional time will also allow us to optimize our new 'EA Locker' feature. Like a memory card in the sky, EA Locker will allow users to share files online, using EA's servers, so they can play their offline franchise games with an online friend. We think the hardcore fans will love this new feature and are working to make it as strong as possible."

Not sure I quite comprehend that quote there. Does than mean that I can play as the 'skins, you can play as the Broncos (assumption here for argument's sake), and online I can play as your opponent each game, and you can play as mine? Or are they saying that I could play my 'skins game offline, and upload the season to let you play your Broncs game offline, and tally it up like that? Or alternatively, does it mean we can play Konami-style where we have to be teammates against a CPU opponent? I am so confused. . .
1. John Madden Football (Genesis) - this was the first time that real football was done on a console. I played this game to death with my friends and like Zeppo, had monumental games against one friend in particular. (Madden 93 and 95 get honorable mentions)
2. Gameday (PS) - This was my first 32-bit football game and I was blown away by the gameplay and graphics.
3. Madden 2002 (PS2) - This was my first 128-bit football game and I was blown away by the gameplay and graphics.
Zepp,
I understand it to be that I could upload my franchise and have you be my opponent while i play my Broncos games.
Now not sure if we could say... Have me be the Broncs and you another team in the same franchise and play that way though. Where I play your opponents and you play mine.
I think it's one person's franchise and you can have friends play you.

I remember I got the game for free by purchasing 2 other EA games...NHL Hockey and Tommy Lasorda Baseball. Those were the days.
Sure you're not thinking about Tony LaRussa baseball, Diablo? I thought the tommy lasorda game was made by sega. Only reason I mention it is because I think that I participated in the same deal.

Must have been...I know it was a baseball game. My bad.

I didn't even like Bo Jackson until I played him in TSB, he was a beast in that game . A close third has to be ESPN NFL. There is no better feeling than reading the middle linebacker while looking for a hole on a run play.
Never played number 3, but i played the crap out of the NES Tecmo Super Bowl. I still have the game and occasionally pull the NES out of the closet to play it a bit. I'm not exactly a football fan, but you didn't really have to be a fan of any sport to enjoy a sports game back then. I thought it was amazing that you could play an entire season without having to use codes to load your progress and the stat tracking was superb for it's time. Bo Jackson was unstoppable in that game. I would always play as either the Niners and dominate with the passing game or use the Raiders and run the ball all day with Bo.
Eventaully i got sick of beating the AI every single time so i tried playing seasons with teams like the pats or cardinals, and of course still dominated, but at least it was a little more challenging. BUt nothing beats the game against a human opponent. Too bad it's impossible to find a worthy opponent these days.
