Teal,
Batman Begins is a much darker and gritty movie compared to Episode III. I could see a 5-year-old having some trouble with some of the imagery.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Thanks for your insights...
How's his attention span?? There's a lot of character development, ie: a lot of time going by w/o any action... as far as "scariness" goes, he may have a problem with the surprise of all the bats.. there are some scary images when some characters are hit with the Scarecrows fear toxin.

He's got a good attention span, I think. He sat all the way through Ep III, but I know that one is kind of wall to wall action. I'm more wondering about the scare factor. He didn't get too uptight about anything in Star Wars (sorry, it's the only other PG13 movie he's seen) such as the emporer killing Mace, Anakin getting legs cut off and burning, etc. I guess my question is...is it scarier than that? Not 'BOO!' scary, but disturbing scary...

Teal, you'd really have to make the decision on what you feel is appropriate.. no you won't see any thing as "gorey" as anyone being dismembered, but like Scoop said it is more gritty and there are some disturbing images... Go see it yourself first... you'll want to see it again anyway.

All right, guys, thanks. That's what I needed to know. The wife and I will go see it sans the kids. But, consequently, I promised the boy a trip to the movies, so...

I'm getting mentally prepared(if that's even possible) to sit through "Shark Boy and Lava Girl"...ugh. But the boy is excited, so at least maybe I can catch a nap during...

Kids will be out of school soon, and the 9 old boy is dying to see it while my 10 year girl is not as keen. I guess they could go together with daddy. What's the film rated?

We went together for Father's day and they'll have a blast with the 3D glasses. Another film you could take them to is Madagascar.

Yeah, I tried to steer him toward Madagascar, but he wasn't having any. But SB&LG wasn't unbearable. The 3D aspect is the savior of the flick, for sure. We'll be going to see 'Herbie' next, I suppose...

i have heard Glover's name thrown into the mix recently but there were actual Joker mock-ups done of Lachy Hulme so he is a definete candidate i believe. but really, its kinda early to tell.

WB did say that with the success thus far of Batman Begins that a sequel is a go though!

thank you God!! (and Christopher Nolan, David Goyer and the incredible cast!) keep the same cast and writers/directors please..Bale, Caine and Freeman are committed to the next one it appears!!

There's a roomer posted at Aint It Cool News that Christopher Nolan is after Sean Penn for the role of Joker. That would be interesting to see.

We went and saw Batman last night. Believe it or not, it was the 1st trip to the movies for my wife and I in 5 1/2 years (no joke). This was definitely the Batman movie I wanted to see.....I am not much of a movie buff but I did leave the theater begging for a sequel or two!!

To follow up on the above post......maybe you guys can help me. Like I said, the movie was tremendous. Of the previous series of Batman movies, I enjoyed Keaton/Nicholson but thereafter my interest faded fast. As a kid I saw the reruns of the tv series which although not truly Batman were enjoyable. I also read a few of the comics as a kid but my recollection is scarce.

That being said, with my current unemployment period I do have some time to read and might enjoy reading Batman. The question is what and where to begin? Year one? Any thoughts/historical info/background would be appreciated.

Thanx in advance-
Tony

I don't subscribe to any of the monthly books, but I believe most of the story arcs are released in graphic novel form, I guess, 6-12mos later. Some of the books that I thought were really good,

Year One, Year Two, Dark Knight Returns, & Dark Knight Strikes Again
Bruce Wayne: Murderer & Fugitive, A Death in the Family, A Killing Joke, Hush. Arkham Asylum, Knightfall, A Long Halloween, Dark Victory, and No Man's Land

If you liked Batman Begins I'd definitely start with the Frank Miller stuff (Year One and Dark Knight Returns). DC is unveiling a new line in July called All-Stars, of which one of the titles is Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder. That too is going to be written by Frank Miller. I'm not totally sure of a premise, but I think it's kind of a re-launch of the core characters in modern times. (It's completely separate from their current ongoing titles.) Supposedly it's going to good stuff so it could be worth keeping an eye out for it.

Of the other stuff Gamer mentioned, in particular, A Death in the Family and Killing Joke are probably worth your time.

I brought it up earlier in the thread, but I'd like to reiterate that for those of you that really dig comic books, or have been intrigued by them, you will do yourself a huge favor by checking out the movie Unbreakable. It's a fantastic movie. IMO, it is M. Night's best, ranking it ahead of The Sixth Sense and Signs. It really hammers away at the idea of the comic book hero as our modern mythology. The premise being that these myths are based on true stories, and Samuel Jackson's character's search for a modern day hero.

Batman Begins is one of the best action movies I have seen in years! I was floored at how good it was. I am itching to go see it again already.
It's interesting too, I had absolutely no desire to see this film and decided to go after hearing all the positive comments. Boy am I glad I listened.

4/4 for me too!

CNN has a pretty cool article on how they developed and built the new Batmobile. That would have been a fun car to test drive!
