It was actually a good recipe, especially if you like more of a soya sauce taste.
My grocery store didn't sell dried chilies and I was kindof in a rush so I bought a chili sauce and just mixed it in with my portions. This worked out nicely because my girflriend doesn't like spicy food that much.
I served it on a bed of rice, and the sauce also went nicely with that. The recipe wasn't very difficult at all.
The recipe:
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup white cooking wine
1 1/2 cups hot chicken broth
3 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into chunks
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon white pepper
1 egg
1 cup cornstarch
Oil for deep frying
2 cups sliced green onions
16 small, dried hot peppers
1. Mix cornstarch with water. Add garlic, ginger, sugar, 1/2 cup soy sauce, vinegar, wine and chicken broth. Stir until sugar dissolves. Refrigerate until needed.
2. In a separate bowl, mix chicken, 1/4 cup soy sauce and white pepper. Stir in egg. Add 1 cup cornstarch and mix until chicken pieces are coated evenly. Add about a cup of oil to help separate chicken pieces.
3. Divide chicken into small quantities, and deep fry at 350 degrees F until crispy. Drain on paper towels.
4. Place a small amount of oil in wok or large skillet and heat until hot. Add green onions and hot peppers and stir-fry briefly. Stir sauce and add to skillet. Place chicken in sauce and cook until sauce thickens.
Makes six to eight servings.

Nothing wrong with cooking, Air. Cheaper, and tastes better, than take-out or most restaurants.
I make a mean Cajun jambalaya and some other stuff. My wife cooks almost every night, but she sometimes shames me into taking over. So I do my best not to poison the brood ...
Take care,
PK

I meant brood, as in wife and kids ...

Yeah, ever since Shadowrun came out Zep's trying to limit the amount of cornstarch he consumes. Now he looks for dishes with ample amounts of pixie dust.Zeppo wrote:Damn, that seems like a lot of sugar in that sauce! I had no idea there was that much sugar in there. And cornstarch. Sounds like my Cajun jambalaya, which includes lard, ham chunks and either Polish or Andouille sausage as major ingredients.Brando70 wrote:It made a top 10 list I saw of worst foods for you. Got to have Andouille! That's where it gets the flavor! That and the special blend of spices I cobbled together from a couple of recipes. Kielbasa just don't cut it, and I've tried hot Italian sausages too, but when I make Jambalaya (it's like the only semi-complicated thing I ever cook) I have to get real, smoked andouille. If I can't get any, I don't bother to make it! And there are some stores and butchers that use liquid smoke and try to pass it off. . . no go. Actually, there's a brand called 'Adelle's' that makes a bunch of good sausages and their Andoullie is plenty acceptable.
That reminds me of a great Good Eats episode where Alton Brown made his own liquid smoke LOL I love that guy!Zeppo wrote:Got to have Andouille! That's where it gets the flavor! D'oh, I didn't think of that! This blizzard is keeping me from getting to church with the kids, so I'm not in the full Lenten mindset yet. Eh, buy the goods today and make it tomorrowpk500 wrote:You blasphemous gentiles, reviving a thread about General Tso's chicken on Ash Wednesday!
