at least you honest.

for myself, i look very forward to trying GT4 (waiting via gamefly). But i know what the end result will be. Upon the start of my first race, following the first hard corner, i will get 'whacked' (accompanied by a generic sound effect) by one or more CPU cars, and any notion of this being a 'racing' game will be permanently lost. It will then become a lonely driving game in which i out horsepower the competition to avoid their kamakazee presence in the chicanes, and my own temptation to treat them like guard-rails. Just like, GT1, GT2, and GT3.

but we will see...

Yeah, I'm in the midst of a war at the OS Racing forum because I'm asking GT fanboys -- all of whom are praising the game as "awesome" and "light years ahead of GT 3" -- for specifics of what Polyphony did to improve the game over the last three years.

The only responses I've seen are "graphics" and "more cars," not a damn thing about the actual racing or driving models. That's because Polyphony hasn't done a thing to those since the first GT was released in 1998.

Take care,
PK
thats why i like coming here and getting honest peoples take on games. None of this i love "whatever game" and even when others point out bugs/flaws, these people still deny them. you can love it but just don't say that its not what it is.

I bought Gran Turismo on release day. I bought Gran Turismo 2 on release day. I bought Gran Turismo 3:A Spec on release day. Today I walked into Gamestop to pick up MVP and MLB 2k5, saw about 50 copies of Gran Turismo 4 and walked out with MVP and MLB 2k5. I remember popping in GT3 after shelving it for over a year and after playing a lot of PGR2 and TOCA 2 on Xbox and thinking this series needs a lot of work. Apparently it didn't get it.

Lex:

Feel no shame, man. Unlike the GT 4 lemmings at OS, you admit the gameplay hasn't developed much since the original GT and that it has shortcomings, yet you still enjoy it.

There's no shame in that. Nothing wrong with guilty pleasures. Hey, I love The Corrs and Peter Frampton as a guilty pop/rock music pleasures!

What pisses me off, as Vinny said, are the morons who say GT 4 has a better racing model and AI than TOCA 2 simply because it's GT.

OK ...

Take care,

Z:

Funny, funny! :)

One other flaw of past GT games, especially GT 2 with its screwed up car classifications, was that you could trick out a car and simply overwhelm the competition with horsepower, regardless of your driving skill.

Is that still the case with GT 4?

That was always one of my biggest problems with last couple GT games. I could rarely find that balance that required me to run a great race in order to come through with a win. If I couldn't keep up then I probably just needed the next upgrade.

I thought I'd be more tempted when seeing this game on the shelf. Instead, I'm finding that the ability to get both baseball games for $30 (with the Gamestop trade-in of Madden) is much more tempting. I hate how hope springs eternal with the simple words "pitchers and catchers report."

I live about 25 miles out of the city in the western suburbs and work about 15 miles out of the city so I'm not too far at all. Where are you coming from exactly? You're going to New York right? I don't think you can avoid the city but I doubt you'll get lost.

Anybody try the Super License test with the Bentley at Lemans? WOW!!!

I didn't even know that track was in the game, or if I did I had forgotten until a portion of it popped up in an earlier license test.

Man, when you're on that back straight going over 230 mph the wind rushing through your Bentley sounds like a freight train! Very cool! It took me about an hour just to get the bronze medal (3:36).

fletch tjung'd the game and so far it is ok but not amazing... the handling seems simply terrible, but maybe thats just cuz its a controller.... i remembr having more "fun" with gt1 and 2 and somewhat 3.... this game was exciting til i started playing it and it's same old same old... yes that same old is good but i was expecting too much, kinda like people did with halo2... expectations were too high, and i am a bit let down... it doenst matter tho, i already sold my xbox and i sold my ps2 and the game last nite for some neons for my car and some carbon mirrors for my car... lol

anyways enjoy it to those who do, and if forza is awesome ill have to buy an xbox then

Yeah the game looks amazing at 1080i...you won't find am Xbox game that looks this good.

I played all afternoon and had a blast. The game won't win sim of the year, but it's definitely fun and addictive.

I've found that I'm having the most fun with this game by going into arcade mode and just racing different cars on the ring! I don't have one single problem with the driving / control engine..... it's the actual AI racing engine that is fooked!

The graphics, control and sound are all superb IMO... except for one issue. I'm not sure if it's my game or something that plagues everyone, but every once in awhile my screen starts to shake really bad and get a little blurry. Hard to explain, but it's definitely not some effect that is meant to be there.

I'd hate to think that this is a general problem with everyone because I'd be baffled to think how this got through testing like this.

I'm loving all the new tracks in 4 and the graphics really are astounding. At first I was regretting my purchase, but no so much anymore. The ring looks and feels friggin amazing. Great stuff!
