As far as wrangling over %s and amounts to give, I suppose that even people who can't afford to give much right now could say they are being represented by any aid that the United States gives right now, be it monetary or food and supplies. I was kind of wrangling over the idea, but my mother said that she wrote a check that would represent a generous contribution from her, myself and my sister, and told me not to worry about. She did chide me by saying that I could stop giving so much money to bums and give it to the tsunami victims instead...
Bush donates $10K of his own money to psunami relief???

I can't believe anyone would try to put a negative spin on a man donating $10,000 of his own money to help people in need. Utter stupidity.

How do you know they haven't? Are you saying that all Christains voted for Bush? Are there no Democratic Christains? IMO Americans have done nothing but act Christ-like after this tragedy. Money and supplies are pouring in from the US.JRod wrote:I think JackB is merely stating that its a pattern in Bush's life that makes the a very lowball number.
Here's what I will criticize, where are those Christian who during the election said they cared about morals and values. The should be on the top of every donation list not just with thousands or even millions. If they can turn out to vote and change the direction of this country where are they now.
I guess I forget its not about being Christ-like its about power.
I still waiting for the Evangelicals to donate millions.
Christian based charities do wonders worlwide man. Catholic Relief Services is awsome! And get this, most of the people they help are Muslims. Go figure. Kinda Christ-like huh?

Uh, who do you think has donated the majority of the money to the different relief funds out there? Where do you think the majority of the money and time supporting the down-trodden of the world come from? I have Christian missionaries in my family who have recently sacrificed their time and money living in the most devasted regions of Haiti and Costa Rica. Where do you think the money comes from to fund these programs and help these people? The answer should be obvious.JRod wrote:Here's what I will criticize, where are those Christian who during the election said they cared about morals and values. Your anger at Christians seems to be at a very small percentage of the public that you see in positions of power. I can assure you that the vast majority of Christians are not the stereotype that you are describing. However, it is sad that the media, and any other hypocritical Christians you have come in contact with have warped your mind to the point that you would be so prejudiced and so angry.I guess I forget its not about being Christ-like its about power.

As for Christians changing the direction of the country, keep in mind that 76% of the US is Christian down from the 96% as of the 1900 census. Only 14% of the US population classifies itself as non-religious. Also, chalk me up as another Christian who did not vote for Bush.
Peace to you brother. We are not all holier-than-thou, power hungry homo-phobes.
Additionally, having it publically documented what anyone gives to any charitable cause is always a no win situation regardless of the amount, and regardless of the % giving vs. your income/worth/etc.
The people I respect the most are those who quietly give of their money and time because they are doing it for no other motive than to help those less fortunate. That's not to say that Sandra Bullock, Bush, Shumacher, or anyone on these forums have motives besides "helping", but it leads to less speculation and if I was a public figure I would never make known how much I give to any charities or causes.
It's great what anyone gives to any noble cause, but it's what we should ALL be doing on a regular basis anyway. Anonymous giving is always the best kind of giving. A great philosopher once said:
So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Man, this is fun comparing your donations to polititcal figures! It makes me feel so good.
I gave a much higher portion of my income right out of college (when I had a net worth of about $500...LOL) than John Kerry gave to charity from 1991-1995. According to his tax records, Kerry only gave $3,034 to charity during that period! In fact, he donated a big fat zero in 1995 and 1991. (Note: I just did a quick Google search. The only reason I'm using that time period is because as of March 2004, Kerry refused to release all his tax returns.)
Kerry really stepped it up in 2002, 1997, and 1996 though (more years in which he released records) with donations topping 50K in total!

DChaps, Jack,
What did I say, I think people don't read posts anymore.
...all Christians or the ones that defined this last year election. Namely those very select Christians groups who spouted Moral Values for the entire year of 2004.
Give in anyonimity is a valient effort. And I commed those groups that do it. However, my point is simply this. If 2004 all we heard was morals, values etc. Why don't those same morals that apply to disaster relief. These select groups wanted so much publicity last year, now when the worlds needs it the most they are no where to be seen.

What groups are you talking about? Defined the election? So your talking over half of voting Americans? I did read your post and I still don't know what groups your talking about. Please help me get your points.JRod wrote:DChaps, Jack,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't there been a huge amount of relief, both private and public, that has already come in?
Should we itemize the giving by faith/belief? Athiests, Agnostics, Catholics, Lax Catholics, Real Evangelicals, Faux Evangelicals, Only-in-it-for-the-gay-bashing Evengelicals....We could make it a contest. Winner gets a free copy of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Hypocrites.
People are giving a lot. This issue shouldn't be politicized.

Yes! I am all for changing the bet after the fact when I am not involved! Keep it until Brett and Co. go home, sounds fair to me.
On a related note, a local TV sportscaster has started to grow a beard to support Jake "Hobo" Plummer in the playoffs. A calculated risk seeing as how the Colts freaking own the Broncos. Cool gesture anyway, it's funny to see an unshaven newsperson each night.

This may be surprising, but I would rather see the Vikes lose. As much as I hate all things Wisconsin, I have a lot of respect for Brett Farv-rah. I don't have any respect for any aspect of the Vikings: they're ugly/wussy indoor stadium, their WRs that don't block, and Mike Tice, who looks like the kind of guy that would befoul your bathroom and then come out and tell you about it.JackDog wrote:His contempt for The Pack would give them bad Karma.Leebo33 wrote:I think Brando should keep the Packers avatar until they are eliminated from the postseason. But this weekend it's the leser of two evils for Bears fans. Pack or Vikes? If I had a choice.......I wouldn't make one.
But I'd also be just as happy to see Lambeau destroyed by a giant Limburger asteroid this weekend.

I said something to that effect when the Bears play the Vikes.
You forgot to mention in your diss of the Vikes, real men don't wear purple!
