Indeed. The site selected is the west bank of the Anacostia river, which is undergoing the beginning stages of a redevelopment effort. The proposed D.C. United stadium (an oft-forgotten elemnt of this package) would be on the other side of the river.

Of course, the stadium as integral or at least catalyst to the redevelopment process didn't stop Cropp from deciding the stadium HAD to go at the RFK site about 5 days after she was elbowing into the photo op of the big announcement of the agreement. Of course, that was where the new Redskins stadium was supposed to be, paid for by the old man himself, but that location proved impossible then.
