Pete1210 wrote:Thanks for the code. Its the same COD multiplayer. Had some fun in a party with some friends, won a few and got crushed - spawn, die, repeat. The shotgun is ridiculous.
I've mostly liked the COD campaigns, so I always buy it, play some mp till I finish the campaign, then dump it.
First, thanks again to Bill for the code. Very much appreciated.

Second, Pete nailed it with his description. This is Call of Duty, returning to its WWII roots. Nothing more, for better or worse. I sense nothing innovative, very little new. Activision is banking on a change of scenery reviving this increasingly stale franchise, but I don't think it's enough.

Spawn. Run. Shoot. Die. Rinse, wash, repeat. That's it. I get no sense of being part of a bigger battle or struggle, no sense of an operation or campaign, even in the War mode. This game, like all COD's except for the first Modern Warfare, feels like Halo or Doom in a military setting. Fast, frenetic, tight maps with certain funnel points guaranteed to create carnage.

I know this is only a beta. I know people love this style of gameplay. And I know the Battlefield franchise offers much of the same and isn't this startling tactical and strategic contrast to COD.

But Battlefield's advantage over COD -- in my mind, at least -- always has been that it feels big. It feels sweeping. It feels epic. For example, you really feel the ebb and flow of a big battle or campaign in the Operations mode of BF1. Love it. I encountered nothing like that in this beta.

Safe to say, I'm not racing out to buy this game on release day for me. But my 12-year-old son loves it, and he is a killing machine. This game is suited to pubescent reflexes and desires, which are far from mine!

One more gripe: I've never liked the color palette Treyarch and Infinity Ward have used in this series. Everything is so bright, so crisp, with far too much contrast. There are no subtle shades of color. Every map feels like it's being baked in the same New Mexico sunshine where Walter White and Jesse Pinkman cooked meth in their RV.

Thanks again, Bill. I don't want these mixed reactions to diminish my gratitude for the code. :)

What I like about BF1 is that even though I may not have touched the game in a couple of weeks, I can still be competitive in a conquest mode no matter which weapon or class I choose to be. I enjoyed this beta, nothing spectacular but I appreciate Activision going back to the older weapons set up in a WW2 environment. I enjoyed the War mode the best. But unlike BF1, if I don't play this game for a couple of weeks, the unlocking of new weapons and perks within that period can put you behind the 8th ball in a a hurry.

I still have a code if anyone else wants to try the Beta.

I agree fellas. I'm actually considering cancelling my preorder just because its too frantic a pace. There are too many people that are just ridiculously good. Im sure the campaign will be good but that might not be enough for me. SWBF2 is coming so my $$ is better spent there. Plus, BF1 is still fresh and GRW is coming with its PvP mode soon. That will be plenty for my FPS itch.

BTW: This beta is getting ROASTED by many in the Non-Sports Gaming forum of OS, too. Nearly identical complaints to ours, and more. We're not alone in our disappointment.

Just played a round of Conquest on BF1 for a quick comparison and there is none. BF1 is SOOOOOOO much better. I have the Tupkow Pass early access map and its pretty damn awesome. I had more kills than deaths and actually had the opportunity to work with my squad.

Beautiful map isn't it? In a couple of days, 'In the Name of the Tsar' will be out. Love BF1.

I didn't play the beta as I haven't preordered WWII, but in the Activity Feed on the Xbox, there were some movies of those playing the beta, but all I saw was the title screen. Stupid move on Activision if they blocked others from seeing some footage. I think this title will do on the definite pass list now.

Weird, seeing ad's all over social media saying today is the day.

Either very bad advertising or someone threw a switch to early.

Only way Im getting it is if the SP turns out to be PHENOMENAL. I cancelled my preorder after the beta...which was underwhelming.

Co-signed, although I never pre-ordered. :)

The holy trinity of current Clancy games -- Ghost Recon Wildlands, Rainbow Six Siege and The Division -- and Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 are more than enough to satisfy my shooter jones for the near future.

The last COD game I played was Ghosts. I won't be fooling with another one, outside of a possible rental, until they go back to the drawing board and change the tired formula.

The two best gaming decisions I've made in last year or 2 was to quit playing EA NHL and COD games.

I've always allowed COD could lure me back, but it would take good MP map layouts, no more knifing or quick scoping, and less prominent kill streaks and class customization. Unfortunately for many those appear to be top selling points. Time frame or setting is mostly irrelevant to me, so I'm not seeing much here.

I had high hopes for COD WWII but when I saw the frantic run and gun shooting in the beta and with the WWII setting - F that. Like Paul said, GR: Wildlands pvp, BF1, The Division and SWBF2 will scratch my shooter itch. Oh, and all 4 of those are getting the XB1X stroke - 4K HDR baby. I also just preordered AC: Origins. With those and all my sports games I am set.

I'm clearly in the minority, but I've been playing the ever living sh!t out of COD since 4: MW. I'm sure it'll be no different this year.

Preordered from Bestbuy today primarily for the campaign. Also just saw there is some coop and that's my favorite online game mode now.

That is funny!

But full disclosure: The Division is full of loot crates, and it might be my favorite shooter ever.

The introductory to the Campaign mode was a beauty to watch. D-Day was brilliantly represented.

So far I am really enjoying it. Will dig into MP this weekend.

Edit: Just managed a couple of TDM’s before server issues crept in.
