Re: NFL 2016/2017
I've got the Bears at 4 wins this season. Anyone brave enough to take the over on that?

Yeah, and their depth is pretty damned strong. Denver and KC both have stronger defenses, but I think Oakland's offense is several steps ahead.Aristo wrote:Yeah, my argument would be that Oakland is no longer a sleeper team. Folks started noticing hat the core in Oakland is pretty darn good. It's been awhile that Oakland had a solid head coach that is being given the time to build the team up right.
As a Chiefs fan, I don't want them to be good, but they might be the best team in the AFC West. It will be a war in that division, though. The Chiefs and Denver both bring elite defenses, and I think KC's offense will be better this season.
Bruce Irvin opposite Mack, with Irvin going forward after the passer and not dropping back into coverage so much is going to be big. Jihad Ward has settled into the three technique extremely well, and Shilique Calhoun was one of the best pass rushers in the draft, per PFF at draft time. Joseph and Nelson are almost interchangeable as far as skill set, so both safeties can play down in the box or center field. Sean Smith is a massive upgrade at the other CB spot. I mean, at each position there's pretty amazing depth. They stockpiled pass rushers to affect the passer, and surrounded Carr with one of the best O-Lines in the league to help their own passer.
I just don't see anybody looking at the roster and going "this team will still suck" unless they just want to think that going in. I WILL say that if they DO suck, I've already told my wife this will be the worst gut punch I've had since the Super Bowl meltdown. Other years I go in going "they could go 2-14, or EVERYTHING could bounce their way and they could go 11-5", and they usually go 2-14. This year, I see no conceivable way they win LESS than 6 games, unless they end up putting 20 guys on IR.
They're talented, they're deep, and the coaching staff WANTS to be there and be successful. I don't necessarily see a Super Bowl, but I see them scrapping for a division title, and if they miss out, being in the wild card conversation all the way through week 17. They will definitely struggle on the second half of the schedule more than the first half, though, so they need to open strong.

Re: NFL 2016/2017
But for the all of the NFL you watch, most quality QBs have a good start to their careers and regress a bit while NFL defenses adjust to their strengths. Just so happened it coincided w/ Cooper going down as well. That's going to carry into this season as he gets more experience. I like the guy, not saying he's bad, just think this is where he's going to step back.TCrouch wrote:You're nuts. Carr only had a shaky second half last season because Amari Cooper was limping around on one leg the entire second half of the season, and his starting center got hurt (the entire line went south at that point). It's easy to go "that team sucks, 6 wins at the most", because that's what everybody has gotten used to.
What about the team is "poorly constructed", out of curiosity? This is the deepest, most talented roster I've seen in Oakland in about 15 years, at least.
I do not like Oakland's offense one bit. Outside of Cooper and Wolford (Tight End University alum), it's gonna be tough this year I think. I don't trust Murray one bit for some reason. Their back end of their defense also worries me a bit. It may be the deepest (in 15 years???), but that doesn't mean they have the right personnel in the proper place.
Now, granted, I'm not a huge follower of the Raiders, only in passing because my good friends are all Raider fans, so I'm going on what they say as well, so you can probably call me out all day long, lol. Either way, I'm going w/ the odds of the Raiders winning 6-7.
Last year was the first year the Raiders out-won the Dolphins so it was the first year I actually had to pay my buddies in our annual "won wins more games" bet. Sad that we are always around the same 5-9 range for the winner. Really sad.

Carr is gonna regress this year (and then come back strong NEXT year so not writing him off). And the rest of the team is just poorly constructed to compete in the AFC. 6 wins...tops. Kind of like Miami. (reverse jinx)

Episode 2 of Hardknocks, kind of entertaining to see all the players including vets root for an unheralded WR to make plays in a preseason game -- they were all yelling "Spruuuuce."
An UDFA safety is offering another player $500 a month to get his college number.
He was doing okay in the preseason game but tears up his ACL. Guess he saved himself some money and maybe they put him on the disabled list so he gets paid for the year, even though he might not have made the roster?

Are there any good apps to watch live NFL games? We cancelled cable, so no more ESPN. I'd love to find a reliable stream that isn't some bootleg torrent site. I'd even be willing to pay for some kind of NFL season pass type deal.
Re: NFL 2016/2017

Butters agrees!...."yeah fuckem!"
Re: NFL 2016/2017
The Dolphins need to bring in Matt Moore because Tannehill sucks. New HC, same results, no pocket presence. He's even allowed to audible and still gets sacked for a 3 and out. The defense still needs work as Romo and the offensive line is picking the Dolphins 1st D apart. If not for a bunch of holding calls on Dallas they'd be marching down the field. As I type this Dallas scores on their 2nd drive.
Looking like a 6-7 win season.
edit: Nice rollout and deep ball connection to Kenny Stills.
edit: Prescott looks like another Russell Wilson

Tony Romo said he felt good after the hit he took to his back and how his back stood up to the shot he took. Tony is now out 6-10 weeks with a broken back. It's time Tony Romo considers retiring and now we'll see how good Dak Prescott really is.

Any free Android apps to watch live NFL games? If not free, anything at a decent price that provides multiple games at a time?
Re: NFL 2016/2017
I was watching that preseason game vs the Hawks and it just makes me cringe everytime he goes down. He's too expensive to be just a back up QB, but really he should be helping out DAK develop.Rodster wrote:Tony Romo said he felt good after the hit he took to his back and how his back stood up to the shot he took. Yeah, I think Jerry Jones lucked out on Prescott and he was considering during the draft, trading up for Paxton Lynch. If not for Prescott he would have had Johnny Manziel on speed dial. That's if he's not just a preseason wonder but I never saw Ryan Tannehill play like that.10spro wrote:I was watching that preseason game vs the Hawks and it just makes me cringe everytime he goes down. Re: NFL 2016/2017
So, we knew the Bears weren't good. But man, today they were almost comically bad. And to really make sure to drive the point home, they finished the first half in Bear-like fashion.
The Chiefs finally scored a TD to go up 13-0 with just 10 seconds left in the half, and had outgunned the Bears around 200-30 in yards, and 177-4 in passing yards. So the Bears had failed to snap the ball from the Chiefs side of the filed all day. But Spencer Ware was called for a No Fun League Special illegal celebration, and the Chiefs were forced to kick from their 20. With just 10 seconds left, they squib kicked it, rather poorly, and the Bears got the ball on the Chiefs 48 with 6 seconds left.
So there they are, ready to snap from across the 50 for the first time all day. The Chiefs broadcasters were joking about whether that should count, when the Bears were called for a false start, pushing the ball back to their 47! Cutler then proceeded to miss a wide open man, and then fumbled o the next play to finish the half.
How bad do you have to be to be booed in preseason? The Bears answered that today. That was brutal.

Bears have some competition for worst record in the division now.

Feel horrible for Teddy Bridgewater. Dislocated knee, torn ACL. Non contact injury. Supposedly they had to sedate him to calm him down. Vikes cancelled practice after the injury. Evidently he is a hell of a guy loved by his teammates. Good luck to him. Hope he fully recovers.

Yeah, I like the kid. Tough break for the Vikings indeed and I am not sure how much S. Hill can bring to the team if any at all. Is M. Vick still available?Diablo25 wrote:Feel horrible for Teddy Bridgewater. Dislocated knee, torn ACL. Non contact injury. Supposedly they had to sedate him to calm him down. Re: NFL 2016/2017
I like the Bradford signing for the soon to be super bowl champion Minnesota Vikings. Not sure he's worth a first round pick, but I guess spielman was more desperate than he led on. Bradford should have his best year as a pro, assuming he can stay healthy. Still not enough to get this team thru the later rounds of the playoffs , but should win 8-10 games.
Re: NFL 2016/2017
A typical Rick Spielman overreacting and overpaying front office move. He did stupid stuff like that when he and Dave Wannstedt were running the Dolphins. A freaking 1st rd pick for a slightly above average/injury prone QB. Good grief !

Re: NFL 2016/2017
They're charging hefty prices for the first regular season game at the new stadium and as of earlier this year, they haven't completely sold out the SBLs:
http://www.startribune.com/minnesota-vi ... 367440761/
So maybe they paid a high price for Bradford in order to keep the season on track and keep the new stadium filled up?

Re: NFL 2016/2017
That's yet to be proven. This Vikings team will be the best team he's ever been on. Most likely he isn't going to be a pro bowler and shock everyone, but there is a chance. He has a great defense, rb and some up and coming receivers. Zimmer is also the best coach he's had by a mile. No one could have succeeded in his previous situations. The first round pick is a bit much, but the team has a small amount of time to succeed. I'm all for it. I'm thinking 9-7 or10-6 and a wildcard. Packers should easily win the division.MizzouRah wrote:Bradford is overrated.
