Ha..no doubt Gateway is/was a dump. I haven't been there since 2002 but I heard the new owner did a lot of stuff to it so maybe it's a bit better now. Regardless, I'll take what I can get so I'm happy to see Indy Racing in St. Louis again.pk500 wrote:Tim:tjung0831 wrote:Paul, you still working for the IRL? No, I left IMS and IndyCar in January 2014. I work for an Indianapolis PR and marketing agency, working IMSA sports car races all over North America. Enjoy it quite a bit.
Nice to see IndyCar back on another Midwestern oval, even if Gateway is a complete sh*thole of a facility.

Good thing I didn't buy the console version. I stuck with the Steam version and I can still play the game with max settings minus vehicle reflections. Not too shabby for an ancient three year old PC rig running an i7 3700K and GTX 770.

But you write as if the console version looks like a PS2 port. Hardly. It's one of the prettiest racing games I've ever seen on the XB1.

Haha, poor choice of words on my part. I read the faceoff article on Eurogamer and they noted that the console versions struggle at times to maintain 60FPS whereas the PC version easily hits the mark. For me a solid 60FPS is what I need out of a F1 game first and foremost. I'm sure both the PS4 and XONE both look great.pk500 wrote:That's all well and good, dude. Happy for you. That said, I really like the handling model this year. It has a certain inertia and weight to the car. The career mode also gives me that Nascar 2005 Chase for the Cup, vibe.

I have no idea of the framerate on the XB1. I can't tell the difference between 50 FPS and 60 FPS. I'm too busy driving.
If the framerate is steady and streams by in a realistic fashion, I'm happy.

Anyone have a problem with not seeing DRS in Quick Race on the Xbox? I was running in the dry at Monza, more than two laps into the race and well within one second of the leading car, and the DRS light never appeared on my dash in the zone.
Hmm.

Re: F1 2016
I've not had that issue, mate. If you've got it switched on, did the DRS Available sign appear on your HUD or was there no indication of DRS being operational at all?
PC users already have a patch which, among other things, is said to get rid of the AI's fear of overtaking you. This, I feel, is essential, for while the game is a much more enjoyable drive than last year, it's not quite as good to race just yet.
It also changes the circumstances in which a safety car or virtual safety car appear and increases their frequency. So far I've had one VSC, reason unknown, lasting half a lap of Monza and one full SC at Spa. The full SC was odd because a) there was only one car off the road, b) it was mine and c) I was rejoining the race at the time. In my very limited experience, I've also found that to achieve the delta times under VSC or while catching the safety car queue, I have to drive pretty much exactly as fast as under race conditions, which feels odd.
Then, of course, I nail Lesmo 2 on a quick lap at Monza, break into a big daft grin and forget about all of that...

Loving this game. I had to pit in the Canadian GP with 2 laps remaining because it started to rain.

You must've started a trend because yesterday Alonso pitted with 2 laps remaining in the Italian GP to post his fastest lap of the race.WPatrick wrote:Loving this game. I had to pit in the Canadian GP with 2 laps remaining because it started to rain.

Nothing in my HUD in qualifying or the race. I looked in on-screen options and saw no options for DRS displays. My control setup shows the default Y button controlling DRS, yet I don't have it for Quick Race.
Yet my son has DRS in qualifying and the race in his Career on the same game disc.
This is flummoxing me beyond belief. I'm stumped and can use any tips anyone can provide.
Thanks.

Re: F1 2016
DRS update: I can see my rear wing open when I'm in the DRS zone. But I see no on-screen display indicating DRS is available or on or off. How do I turn on this notification in my HUD?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I checked the settings in the PC game which they should be identical on all platforms and did not see anything that stood out.pk500 wrote:DRS update: I can see my rear wing open when I'm in the DRS zone. Suggestions?
1) Try resetting your game settings back to default.
2) Doesn't the XONE allow for game cache to be cleared out i.e. game updates etc without deleting the game?
3) Posting your game bug on the Codie's message board http://forums.codemasters.com/categorie ... discussion
4) Uninstall/Reinstall game

PK, what camera do you use? Are you using the in-cockpit view? I remember from F1 2015 that in the in-cockpit camera all the info was on the steering wheel, unlike the other cameras where there were HUD-style graphics to indicate gear, speed, DRS and such.pk500 wrote:GB_Simo wrote:I've not had that issue, mate. Re: F1 2016
Finally got around to spending more time with this game, it is a lot of fun. Putting the power down is a real struggle, I can't quite catch the car yet if the rear gets loose. That's causing some problems balancing the difficulty level, since fresh super softs in qualifying solves some of my speed issues, but during the race the computer makes up a ton of time out of the turns.
In my first career race I put a Haas on the pole but quickly fell back to 7th after being too conservative on the first lap. After that I couldn't keep up with the top 6, it was a struggle as the tires degraded. Fresher tires at the end of the race made the closing laps a lot of fun as I was able to out-brake a bunch of cars to get back to 8th.
The career mode looks interesting, I like how the practice objectives tie in to development points.

Re: F1 2016
One thing I think F1 2016 does better than any previous F1 game is exactly that--you can DEFINITELY throttle steer the car. Keeping the car at top speed without losing the rear end is extremely addictive. You start to notice the subtle cues that the car gives you the more time you spend in it. You can see the view angle "shift" slightly when you're right on the edge of traction, and if you go any further past that, you're going to lose it.
Those fast sweepers and high speed technical sections have become a joy to drive, simply because you can no longer just "point and shoot" at max throttle. I haven't spent as much time with it as I really should have, but that jumped out at me almost immediately. The more time you spend in the seat, the less you'll keep losing the rear end of the car, because you'll be able to simply "feel" that point where you're throttle steering the car and not using so much steering input mid-corner.
They really nailed that feeling, but it can definitely catch you off guard to start with. And if you over-drive it, you WILL cook the tires and experience exactly what you described. I've sort of taken the opposite approach with the Haas car. I start mediocre, and then I get stronger over the course of the race. I haven't put the AI on Legend or whatever the new "insane" level is, though, yet. I still struggle to win, but I can do alright the longer the race goes.

Re: F1 2016
Are you using a wheel? I'm using a controller and it feels like some of the settings are slowing the ability to quickly catch the rear, at least compared to Forza.

Re: F1 2016
I use a wheel most of the time, yeah. A few times I didn't want to break it out and used the controller instead, though. I didn't notice any massive delay in the sensitivity, but even then I'm using the Elite Controller with a taller stick for steering.

Re: F1 2016
I picked the game up and it's just perfect. My only issue is I can't find a way to balance the difficulty. I started off a career with Honda with normal AI settings. I won the pole and went wire to wire in the race, winning by over 10 seconds. I tried again on hard, and still won. I started a new career with sauber on hard, and proceeded to get knocked out of Q1 lol. I don't want to win easily, but finishing 20th isn't fun either. I'm looking for a setting where I can feel happy to finish somewhere between 8-10th place. I shouldn't even be close to a podium with sauber. Or maybe I should try with Haas.
Any suggestion from the vets on here?

Re: F1 2016
Sauber is a backmarker team so getting knocked out in Q1 and finishing 20th with Sauber is realistic. Supposedly Codemaster has updated team performance throughout the year to match the actual season.fletcher21 wrote:I picked the game up and it's just perfect. Re: F1 2016
I found a good balance, but the issue I am having is the faster AI cars literally ramming me from behind and taking us both out. I was in Australia and Hamilton had pitted and caught back up to me. He tried for over a lap to pass me, but I blocked. Going down the straight he enabled drs and literally ran into the back of me, sending us both skidding into the gravel at turn 1. Very similar to the crash Alonso had at that corner lol. I should have just let him past, but I was intent to block him as long as I could.
