New rock band I really like

As someone who was 14 in 1980, I´m probably more geared towards what ended up being called ´post-punk´ in the UK..more interesting, but made by some fairly austere and miserable gets..e.g
 
 Wire (Try ´On returning´..31 songs in about 54 mins)
 The Fall
 Human League (first version)
 Joy Division/New Order
 Young Marble Giants
 
 Not sure that the US ever had an equivalent, except maybe for some of the CBGBs bands like Television and Talking Heads.
 
 Still remember buying my first Ian Curtis raincoat...sigh

 Suicide I´ve heard some of - 22 mins over Brussels, was that the live concert that turned into a riot ? Reminded me of going to see the Jesus and Mary Chain when they started, and their legendary 20 minute gigs, followed by full-on riot. You certainly got your money´s worth, albeit not from the band...

 Ugh ... that´s not a path blazed of which anyone can be proud, especially Blink 182.

 Listen to "Cold Hard B*tch" about four times in a row and tell me you don´t hear shades of "Have A Drink On Me" by AC/DC. Don´t compare Brian Johnson or Bon Scott to the singer from Jet, because I´m not.
 
 But listening to the entire record, and not just "Are You Gonna Be My Girl," you must be tone-deaf not to hear heavy influences of Angus Young on Jet´s guitarist.
 
 It´s not just me, either. Check out snippets of this review from a UK show:

Only the borderline misogynist lyrics of ´Cold Hard B*tch´ grate on what is otherwise one of the best songs AC/DC never wrote.<<<
 
 My best friend stopped by to drop off some Christmas gifts tonight. He was a drummer in regular gigging rock cover and original bands around Syracuse for about eight years in the late 80s and early- to mid-90s, and the cat knows music. I asked him if he had heard Jet, and he said no. I played "Cold Hard B*tch" for him, and after about 90 seconds he said: "Man, this sounds like AC/DC. I like it."

Speaking of music.....anybody here have the latest Rancid CD? How is it?
 
 ´..And Out Come The Wolves´ is still heavy in my rotation.
 
 PK, Blink 182´s latest is suppose to be real different than their previous releases.

The latest Rancid is... Rancid. The songs are pretty much more of the same. It still doesn´t compare to ... and Out Came the Wolves though.
 
 PK- ha! Say what you will about Blink 182, but it´s sure as hell better than the manufactured pop of NSync or Backseat Boys. I´m not even saying I like Blink, I don´t own any of their CD´s, but it´s better than a lot of the stuff out there.

PK, Thanks for the recommendation. I noticed the AC/DC comparison right away before I even read this far in the thread. Ive heard the ´release´ (Will you be my girl or whatever its called) song somewhere but it wasnt on radio. That one is a cover isnt it? Ive heard this before just not by Jet

 Blink 182 is better than a lot of the pop out there. I beg to differ that it´s better than a lot of rock. Maybe modern rock, but that´s even debatable.

 I don´t think "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" is a cover. But the opening riff, which is repeated throughout the song at various points, is a complete ripoff of "Lust for Life" by Iggy Pop. But the rest of the song is unique enough that I think "Girl" is almost an homage to the Iggy sound rather than a cover.
 
 But that´s always subject to debate!

I´m really enjoying No Doubts version of "Its my Life"...I think a cover from Talk Talk.
 
 Gwen Stefani has the best voice in the business right now....a mix between Blondie and Pat Benetar...and the best looking girl with no rack I have ever seen.
 
 Joy Division....Love Will tear us Apart...morbid stuff.....I always enjoyed New Order.
 
 Offspring´s "Self esteem"...classic song....I changed the end of the song..."I´m just a sucker with no self esteem"...to:
 
 "I´m just a sucker when it comes to *****"....try it...it really sounds like it.
 
 Reminds me when my wife(then girlfriend)....would party with her sorority...then come over at 2 in the morning for after party action.....
 
 anyway...just some random music thoughts at 2 AM cristmas morning.
