Every review I've seen is exactly as expected: huge, amazing world, tons of content.....tons of bugs.

It's something that, if you're a gamer who hates seeing glitches and weird stuff occurring, you'd want to avoid for a few months. Any Bethesda game comes with some pretty odd bugs to start with, that they then iron out with a few patches. It's a weird thing to be able to put up with the "Bethesda glitches" with nary a sideways glance at them, but I can't even imagine attempting to code this much crap into a game and then have everything work flawlessly. It'd never release if we waited for that to happen.

For those where PC is not an option, any indication which console version to get?

Some of the side by side shots I've seen, the PS4 looks marginally better (likely due to resolution and a slight haze in the distance on the XB1), but they both have performance issues and framerate drops, so it's all really preference at this point.

And on that Verge review--every other review I've read said the shooting mechanics are on par with a good FPS now. Yet that review said it's roughly the same? That's odd. I can't wait to try it myself, but that review seemed to disagree with pretty much everything I've read about the mechanics and third person perspective, but I guess an opinion can't truly be wrong! And since I haven't played it myself, I cannot dispute it. That would be very disappointing if true, though.

Normally I'd buy this type of game for the PC but with my lack of time and overall meh about another Fallout game, I had to buy the PS4 version so I can actually flip it if I find the same to be true for v. 4 as I did for v. 3.

Fully expecting a ton of bugs, like Terry said. :)

Edit: and then I remembered how much better the PC version usually looks, so I cancelled my PS4 order and did the PC version instead. LOL...I'm a sucker.

Based on this article, I am getting the PS4 version. Notice that both consoles are running mostly at 30 FPS during key actions in the game with certain environments dropping a bit for the Xbox. There's also a mention of stuttering scenes on the X1.

Definitely nothing wrong with the shooting mechanics in this one. I haven't used VATS once, and I can headshot Raiders from 50 yards away with a pistol if they're not running around. In New Vegas it was so sloppy that I used VATS almost exclusively, so to have the gunplay actually feel good is a huge leap. Gunfights are actually fun now, so add that on to the usual immersion from the story and missions, and you've got a winner. I just wish there was a cover system of some kind, but you can't have everything

Played it for maybe 30 minutes last night after the game on the PC. Really only got by the beginning sequence so all I could do was swat giant roaches. I was really tired and perhaps not grasping the controls using a 360 controller. I couldn't open my inventory even though I was hitting the B button. I basically got back to my robot and was falling asleep during the conversation.

Very nice looking game but other than that I can't say much more

Yeah, until you get the Pip Boy you had no inventory access. But it was pretty cool having the Pip Boy on my tablet propped up in front of me. I had a real-time map displayed any time I just glanced down and never had to access it. That was pretty slick, at least. I only played for about 90 minutes last night, but my wife and I woke up at 3AM and got a few hours in before work this morning.

I assume that only works with the console version and not PC

Nope? Not sure why that would be the case.

I was using it on PC, it found the PC on my network and connected instantly.

Ah, that would explain it.

Nah, it's an Android/iOS app that works with any version of the game. You just pick which one you want to run, and you can even play those holo disc games on it, it's kind of a trip. Biggest use for me is the map functionality, though. You can even set a map marker on it by tapping a location and it displays on your compass in game. Pretty slick.

Is this really all that shocking anymore? Both consoles use Blu-ray drives and PC's are not limited by physical media at all. By the end of this console generation I would imagine you would be hard pressed to find many AAA titles less than 20gb. Ever since Time Warner upgraded their infrastructure and sent out new Cable Modems in So Cal about a year or so ago my downloads have been lightning fast. Fallout 4 took about 30 minutes. MGS5:PP was 20GB and came in at around 25 minutes or less. I pay for mid tiered bandwidth with TW, not even the highest speeds. I also happen to live in one largest cities in the country, so that helps. But still, large game sizes are hardly news anymore.

I re-downloaded GTA5 on PC a couple of days ago and that thing clocked in at 61.8GB. So Fallout's size doesn't even phase me.

Curious which game you prefer, GTA or FO4? Got TR today along with GTA 5 but might sell or trade GTA 5 for FO4.

is this a FPS? or not? I saw some guy on twitch and he had it 3rd person view. Can you switch to 3rd person in this game?

Also what is so special about the series/game? The story ? Have never played Fallout games.

Picked up a Redbox rental. Will play this evening to get a taste of how I like it. Loved Skyrim but never got close to completing it.

1) It's always been 3rd person view unless that's changed in this game
2) It's about the apocalypse (open world)
3) Think Mad Max
4) You've missed out

You've been able to switch from 3rd to 1st person for the last 3 games I believe, at least since New Vegas.

As for the rest of the questions try doing a google search it's only the hottest game release of the year so far there aren't dozen of stories and videos to get you the information you need.

As impressed as I am with this game from the opening install videos, to the introduction of the main character and his family, to the initial exploration and looting of items, this appears to be a HUGE time sink (as Terry mentioned) that I'm just not ready to devote to, if at all. It's truly an impressive world and atmosphere and I fully get all the accolades the game is receiving, even in my brief time with it. But, I just don't know at my age, I'm fully invested in a game of this magnitude. I'd characterize myself as a casual gamer who more than likely doesn't have near enough time to play this on a daily basis, all the while ignoring all of the great sports titles and games such as Tomb Raider, Forza, Halo, etc.

I echo these sentiments. I was sitting on my couch last night ready to play some Fallout 4 and I kept thinking, do I really want to dive in again tonight (after spending a few hours the first night), and ultimately I didn't even fire it up. I played on the internet for a bit and watched some youtube and then went to bed. I just don't have the motivation for these giant games anymore.

I should have been smart and just gotten the PS4 version so I could sell it, but now I'm stuck w/ the PC. I suppose I'll go back to it occasionally, but outside of how awesome it looks, I just don't have but an hour or so per night to play games and I'd rather play sports games most of the time. So yeah, woops.

I agree. I'll get this when its on sale. Too much time commitment plus other titles in more interested in like forza tomb raider and halo.

I would even wait a few years when it's free on xb gold.
