Yeah, I figured. Plus it could have been that I didn't start a Crew Only session or something, I don't know. I was just curious to try it with somebody who wasn't a complete tool. Since nobody matching that description was on, I figured I could invite you
Nah, I was just hoping to do some of those missions without the knuckleheads who wait for you to run forward 10 feet, and then try to shoot you in the back lol

Re: GTA V - DSP Crew Nights Wed/Thurs
Now THAT was more like it! Some fun stuff tonight, fellas. PK, I don't know what the deal was-I couldn't join your invite, dude...sorry. We'll get all that crap figured out.
But from racing supercars to bicycles, jumping out of helicopters and parachute racing, ski-doos, shootouts...hell, even some Ace Combat type action in fighter jets-this damned game has nearly everything you can think of, and the heists aren't even here yet.
Yep, getting into matches with friends REALLY turned this around for me. If we can keep that up, this will be spinning for a long, long time. Great stuff.

Thanks for the invites, guys. Unfortunately, despite doing the tutorial missions the other day, it chucked me back into it again. Had to slog through.
Bright side is that I finally got a couple of deathmatches in before crashing out again...

Are we only playing Wed/Thursdays? I started the tutorials but don't understand how to find a job that Lamar has for me to continue. Is this part of the tutorial? I just don't know what to do next and how to join you guys with missions. Can someone please explain or point me to a FAQ?

Good times last night!!!
Here's a link that might help with the online tutorial: www.ign.com/wikis/gta-5/Tutorial_(GTA_Online)
Once you're done with the tutorial you should be able to join or invite friends.
Could be any night (except Tuesday for me). I'm still working on the story, but would leave to play online with the Crew. I plan on playing some more tonight.bulls23 wrote:Are we only playing Wed/Thursdays? I started the tutorials but don't understand how to find a job that Lamar has for me to continue. Dang Terry and Teal are doping!! We need routine drug tests before bicycle races! Of the races, i liked the car and seadoo races best.
Cant wait to try out some of these survival missions I've been reading about.

Frustrating how I couldn't join anyone's group even though I've finished all tutorials. I'll definitely try again soon.

Yeah, that was a hell of a good time. Once we figured out how to stop randoms from coming in, it was a lot more enjoyable. Parachutes with Guns--not as much fun as it sounds
.
On the bikes, what I've found is to just hold the A button when you're on flat ground or on a slight decline. It builds your stamina back up slowly, so for most of the race my stamina is at 75% or more. Then you have it to mash that A button when coming up on a hill or something. It's a really cool little quasi-simulation, like I was mentioning to Teal after that last bicycle race. My front tire was literally a foot behind his, and I was alternating between mashing A and holding A to try to keep him in sight. We had something of a lag spike that had his bike kick mine sideways for a bit, but other than that, it was a very enjoyable little Tour de LS.
I actually enjoyed almost everything we did last night. Partway through the night I was thinking "OK I have to quit voting for races", because everybody was so nice that we all just sorta rolled with whatever the initial vote was. I certainly didn't mean to try to monopolize the evening with race after race after race
And on a good note--for all of the launch headaches, Rockstar is giving out $500,000 GTA in-game cash to all GTA Online players who have tried to play this month:

After we disbanded last night, I got a helicopter and flew around looking for randoms that were fleeing from the cops and would land close to them and they took the cue and jumped in. I immeadiately would get their same wanted level and get XP for losing the cops. Both times I just flew up to the tallest skyscraper and landed after losing the cops. They would get out and basejump off the roof, one guy jumped from the helicopter tho. I guess you cant get the military heli with missles, etc for free like you can in single player. Oh the havoc/grief you could cause.

30 members of the Drop Shot Posse, and the most I've ever seen on at one time is...six? C'mon, you wankers!

I didn't boot you! In fact, I saw you get out of freshly wrecked vehicle and run, and I commented on your leaving me there with a 3 star wanted level, which quickly went to 4, having to defend myself from the cops. I died very soon thereafter. Ah well.

Ha! I know u didnt boot me. Right when we crashed into the guard rail it through me into single player and said the host booted me from the server. Funny that it would show my guy just running down the street. I've read some where people get booted from the server for no reason.Teal wrote:TheTruth wrote:Teal - i got booted from the server right in the middle of our getaway. I guess the host booted me? I was in tonight for a few hours but didn't see any of the crew. I'm up to level 6 and getting the hang of how online jobs work. I have found the repo missions to be the most enjoyable so far. I have found you can't reason with these people getting their car repoed, so I just kill them and take it. It seems soon afterwards their neighbors and the cops are all over me. lol

What is your GT? I don't think you are on my friends list yet.bulls23 wrote:I was in tonight for a few hours but didn't see any of the crew.
I was in a DSP closed crew session with a friend from about 10pm ET until 1am last night. Teal joined us towards the end and helped us get through a 2-4 man mission we were stuck on.
I think there is an option to join your Crew online, but not sure where that is. Maybe in the Play GTA Online menu in Story mode, maybe on the phone?

I looked in the invite area under Crew and didn't see anyone listed there. Maybe I didn't look hard enough.

Thanks to Teal and RobV for breaking my DSP Crew cherry last night. I didn't have any idea what was going on, but it wasn't their fault.
Hope to steal, loot, kill and pillage again soon with you cats. Maybe I'll be semi-lucid next time.

Re: GTA V - DSP Crew Nights Wed/Thurs
As of right now - I f*cking hate the online component. I truly think they over-engineered this aspect. I am so freaking confused about what my options are. I know one thing, I DO NOT want to play with randoms. And I cannot figure out how to just start a private session.
I went online last night to try and finish the tutorial stuff (which I still have no idea if I've completed or not) and some f*ckhead random made it his mission in life to kill me. Over and over and over and over again. I was just trying to do the part where I steal and car and bring it to the shop to get the tracker and the insurance. Well, this a$$hat comes up and kills me when I am right next to the car shop. Okay - no big deal. I respawn a couple blocks away, jump into 'Passive' mode and figure I can just avoid this idiot. Nope. Apparently passive mode just protects you against randoms when they are outside of a vehicle. So, this sh*tbag just comes by and runs over me. I respawn at the same spot, he runs over me again. I respawn at the same spot, he runs over me again. This went on for like 10 kills or so.
I decide to not quit and just see if there is a way for me to avoid this type of behavior or just move to a different part of the map. Nope. Finally I avoid him somehow, jump in a car and then he's right there with C4 and blows my car up. Now I am freaking insanely p*issed but also kind of amused in a frustrated way. So now this guy is out of a car, tries to kill me and realizes that I am in Passive mode. So he just shadows me on my every move and waits until I hop into a car and he C4's it. I try disabling Passive Mode and killing him only to realize I have no ammo. So again, I die. I have ZERO defense against this person. So then I decide to just see how long they will wait if I do nothing. Well - I let my character sit there for like 10 minutes while I went and did some other stuff. This f*cknut just waits and tries to repeatedly light me on fire while I stand there. Then he grabs a car and runs me over again.
I finally quit and he then proceeds to send me multiple PM's saying stuff like "What's wrong?" and "Is there a problem?". Creepy sh*t. (now in writing this is actually fairly funny but last night I just couldn't believe there is not a way to avoid this kind of stuff).
So...ummm...that was a fun session.
So now I'd just like to play in private sessions if that's even possible. I cannot quite figure it out from the overly complex menu system yet. Any ideas?

Re: GTA V - DSP Crew Nights Wed/Thurs
I'm about 48 hours ahead of you in the learning curve, Spooky. I didn't have a problem with griefers, but I was just as irritated and confused by the interface. I still don't really understand how many "sessions" or game are running at one time, or how to tell if I'm in someone's game at first. It's really opaque.
In any event, here's what I've figured out as the best way to get into a game with friends.
1. Get in an XBL party. If you don't the only chat is localized or via the cell phone.
2. Go to the Online menu and use the Join a Friend or Join a Crew Member options. This should take you to the right iteration of the game world. But, if your friend(s) are in a job, that is to say a deathmatch/race/online mission, you won't be able to join. You may need to wait for them to finish a job.
There are a number of alternatives to this, though:
You can just use the XBL "join game session" menu option.
You can highlight a specific friend in the Online menu of the game and join through his profile.
You can be invited to a job via game invite just like a normal XBL game.
Now, to start a private session of a job you can either use your phone or go to one of the job locations in the world. (The blue circles) Just choose to host and set up the parameters.
Once you're in a job, you're really in an independent part of the game world. Free roam is left behind and you'll just go from job to job with a lobby in between. Players can vote for one of a selection of jobs, which is one of the cooler things that they've implemented. You can play deathmatch, mission, race, whatever without having to create another room.
What confused the hell out of me playing with randoms is that the lobbies can just sit there until launched by the host. So there are periodic cock-ups where some dbag lets the room just sit there for 5 minutes, then launches some mode that lasts 45 seconds, then sits for another 5 minutes.
It's definitely far from intuitive. That said, now that I've got a reasonably good feel for how to get into and out of games, it's fun. Like I said, last night was the first time I really enjoyed free roam. Teal, PK and I knocked off a gas station and then engaged in hilarity trying to escape. At one point Teal got himself on top of a building in a Dog Day Afternoon type of situation, so I came swooping in killing cops to get them chasing me. He was able to escape, I dodged around until I did the same and we both cashed in. There are a shitload of what I think of as "free roam" missions. These are standing collection quests and the like such as stealing certain types of cars and returning them for $. You can also rob stores, steal cars, beat up NPC's etc. to raise $.
Free roam is only going to get better as we level and get access to a wider arsenal, for sure.
Stick with it. It's cludgy, but there is a payoff there.
