Canucks will wrap up their long 7 game road trip tomorrow vs a well rested Blues team. They steal an extra point in Jersey tonight when they looked dead beat after losing two more bodies. Torts have been playing the top guys an average of 28 minutes a night, and I am a bit worried that it may bite them towards the end of the season if this trend continues. We are not talking about a young core here and the depth is a bit thin.

Special afternoon at the Rog today. He's the most vibrant, electrifying, skilled Canucks player that this city has ever witnessed. I still remember all the buzz about his arrival here and his first ever NHL game.

He could single handedly change the outcome of a game and he was difficult to catch up to.

On top of that the hosts will be facing the always hated Leafs (which are not so bad after all) and HNIC is even accommodating a 4PM PST to accommodate the vast supporters of Leafs nation.

He's a hall of famer, they call him the Russian rocket, he's the most exciting player that wore a 'Nucks jersey.

The #10 jersey is being retired, there's only one Pavel Bure.

Never a dull moment when the Leafs come in town. They tried to bully their way around, a couple of good tilts and P. Kessel running his mouth off.

I was happy to witness the Bure tribute with a buddy which was well done by the organization.

Great atmosphere, if it wasn't for Reimer the score could have been 8-0. The 'Leafs suck' chant never gets old. 8)

A lot of crap happened in this game, like the earlier knee from Neal to the rat Marchand. But what Thornton did to Orpik is a joke.

We touched on this last night with Vader.... Now I know what you were talking about!

The reality is that the bruins are pigs!

Sadly cause the cowardly gwego wee camm belll is son of the c*** running the nhl this garbage keeps going on.

They are not held to the same rules as the rest of the league so they continue with their cowardly behavior.

Ive had it with these mother f***ers!

Seems like an ugly game.

Started with Orpik concussing Eriksson on what could be considered borderline by way of Eriksson never really playing puck and Orpik looking like an EASHL player who says "screw it, I've got him lined up and hitting him anyway."

Then you have IMO a very dirty knee from Neal. It will be a joke if he's not suspended for that. The NHL was once "willing to accept" Neal's assertion it was "an unintended collision" when delivering a de facto cheap shot (http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/consol ... &id=172993), which I thought was laughable at the time, there's no excuse for being fooled twice by this crap.

Lastly, you have Thornton doing what the Bruins do; skirt the line of dangerous play. It's particularly bad for Thornton because he went so far out of his way to get Orpik after already trying to start something after the Eriksson hit. I'm surprising that quick shot to the jaw knocked out Orpik, but tough s*** Thornton, he's getting suspended for that no doubt. It feels a little bit like Marty McSorely lite, recklessly trying to pick a fight.

Remember when the Flyers were the dirty team in the league? :P

Thornton has never been suspended so this should be an interesting decision since Ray Emery basically did the same thing to Holtbig except Holtbig didn't get knocked out like Orpik.

Neal has a history of dirty play and now this is at least his fifth incident according to the video you guys posted.

There was a hit tonight on Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller by Phaneuf that wasn't even penalized for after Seidenburg was called for a borderline contact to the head penalty on an earlier check. Phaneuf's hit sent Miller out of the game.

There's no question in my mind that Neal meant to knee Marchand in the head, no matter what he says. Unfortunately for the Bruins fans and the way Marchand plays around the league, there was not much sympathy for him. But for the sake of the game and whatever integrity is left in Bettman's regime, Neal should be gone for at least 3 games and Thornton at least 5 for his cowardly act.

Yes I do! Larry Robinson and the Habs put that to rest back in 76. 8)

J. Neal just got a deserved 5 games suspension for his transgression, so my guess is that Thornton will get something north of 7.

If he's a first time offender as Zlax says, that will help his cause. 5-8, I think.

Wow, I was texting my friend during the Steelers game yesterday and we guessed 20 games for Thorton. But this is based on 2 casual fans and what we thought would seem like a reasonable penalty for assault and battery. It wasn't based on the warped NHL-style of justice.

I was watching the NHL network after the sunday night football game and the dude on there was saying it was no big deal and we wouldnt even be talking about it if the guy had not gotten hurt.

The bruin announcers blamed Orpik for it even happening at all saying that if he had just "manned up" and fought Thornton earlier he would not have gotten hurt later.

There are some really warped fucks involved in the nhl.

That sort of play happens like every 2 or 3 NHL game. It was more of a reaction to the injury that Orpik suffered than anything else.

Thornton has never been suspended so this is going to get real interesting while Neal has a history of this.

How many games is Orpik going to get? Erickson did not have the puck and you could make the argument that Orpik's principle point of contact was Erickson's head.

You have never seen a player get grabbed in a scrum? That happens almost nightly...Orpik lost his balance and hit the ice.

This is the same league that didn't suspend Roy Emery for doing a similar thing...Correct?

This is why the NHL will always be a second rate garage league with logic like that, if a player doesn't have a past history of any wrong doings he gets a free pass to do any goonery he wishes? Nice. The game won't ever get rid of the cheap shots until someone is taken off the ice in a body bag.

Neal is a repeat offender of hitting players in the head and this was at least his sixth incident that the NHL has investigated. He gets 5 games...

John Scott had no prior history and was suspended for 7 games...We will see what crazy logic Shanahan comes up with....

Exactly. Sadly. Until someone dies on the ice this garbage will never end.

Miller never turned, so Phaneuf should have never rammed his head in the boards intentional or not. The player was injured at that point although he's cleared to play the next game.

That's a 2 games suspension if I were Shanny.

I think two is low. Until you start laying down the freaking law, these guys will continue to do this s***.
