Whaaat? STILL no destructible environments?? No multiplayer vehicle gameplay? Been there, done that, trailer just cements my thoughts of no sale!

"Black Ops 2 sees the return of Treyarch’s zombies mode, but this time it isn’t just a side-attraction, it’s a full open-world campaign. The studio really is dredging the market to hoover up everyone’s attention this year, and what’s interesting is how well it has has held the whole package together... The core zombie campaign is called TranZit, and the plot follows the events of Rezurrection – the final piece of zombie DLC from the original Black Ops. Treyarch wouldn’t confirm this, but it appears as if TranZit is set in the modern day, rather than the 2025 setting of Black Ops 2. The world smacks of the American south-west, with burned out diners, boarded up theatres and rusted car shells lining the dilapidated streets.
The zombie outbreak is back with a vengeance and your only hope of understanding the cataclysm and escaping the undead is to blaze a trail across the region – either on foot or by bus. Along the way you will encounter focal points, arenas that can be selected in Survival mode if you fancy a classic bit of zombie action with mates. There is an element of Dead Island in here too, as crafting is available for the first time. We’re unsure of how many items can be built, but we did see survivors building spiked shields out of car doors and shrapnel.
On top of that, the studio has also added in competitive play. It’s a last man standing mode called Grief where two groups of four survivors fight each other, as well as a never-ending barrage of zombies to be the last team alive. That is going to be utter chaos to play, and we can’t wait to try it for ourselves."
I've got a few friends who played a lot of Zombie mode. With these additions I will jump in. I pre-ordered on the ~$30 MS store deal. Worst case I play through the SP try a little MP and get my money back on trade in.

Re: COD: Black Ops 2
If they'd do the zombie thing as a standalone, 40 dollar title, I'd bite.

My kids are nagging me... guess I'll stop by a Gamestop on the way home tonight.
(told my wife it's for the kids)

Re: COD: Black Ops 2
I ordered mine from the MS store, and should be receiving it today. Straight to MP for me.

I'm intriguied but probably not gonna bite on this one. The new twists on Zombie Modes sound really fun but still not anywhere near as cool as a L4D title.

I watched the IGN review, the game apparently has a good single player campaign, excellent MP and the zombie mode is icing on the cake. My kids play the first black ops to death, so I know it will get it's $60 worth around my house.Spooky wrote:I'm intriguied but probably not gonna bite on this one. I'm going to pick up warfighter too if they have a used copy.

Picked up a rental copy this afternoon. Figure I'll play it for a week or so and get my fill of it.
Re: COD: Black Ops 2
Purchased today. Black Ops is the one shooter that I actually enjoy. So many game modes just give this game a lot of replay value.

Looking forward to the zombies mode, will buy it for the 360, any impressions on the Vita anyone?
Re: COD: Black Ops 2
Just returned from Target, where there were about 5 different standalone cases selling Black Ops 2. Best part is that that adjacent Gamestop had people waiting in line 30 deep outside in the 35-degree cold for the same game. #peoplearenotrational

Yeah, I always walk into Best Buy on release day for any game and get in and out in less than 10 minutes. I haven't walked into a GameStop in years. Hate those stores...RobVarak wrote:Just returned from Target, where there were about 5 different standalone cases selling Black Ops 2. Word. (Of course they may all close down in the next year or two but oh well....)Leadfoot5 wrote: Yeah, I always walk into Best Buy on release day for any game and get in and out in less than 10 minutes.
While it will never have the appeal of COD 4 and MW:2 (where I actually took the day off work and played through the single player in a day), I still enjoy COD. I approach the games like a Michael Bay summer blockbuster - unplug my brain and enjoy. I actually thought the first Black Ops had a half decent story (even if you could see the twist coming a mile away) and I've read good things about the branching storyline in Black Ops 2. There are too many good games out right now but I'll definitely pick this up at some point.
EDIT: Oh, and I still have to admit, despite my love for all things Battlefield 3, that COD engine, running at 60 fps is unrivaled on consoles.

I got it. Played some mp - my gaming reflexes are too slow.

I played several rounds last night. It's not really grabbing me, but I'm also not seeing much nonsense yet. Actually I didn't get killed by a single killstreak, but I don't expect that to last. The most fun I had was Ground War kill confirmed, as you have these battles and the dog tags pile up, but it's a question of who can claim them in the open?
I also need to try multi-team modes, which could be pretty interesting.

Re: COD: Black Ops 2
I like it, but I like almost all of the previous call of duty games as well (minus MW2 & 3). It is what it is and BLOPS 2 excels at what it does. It's an arcade shooter that you can just pop in and play. Anyone can experience a bit of success and get kills from the get go, but those who put in the time will obviously be much better than those who don't. The maps are designed really well and there's and endless amount of customization to play with when it comes to your loadouts.
The one thing that I really don't like is the quick scoping. I'm surprised how prevelant it is considering this is a treyarch game. They had toned it down quite a bit in BLOPS, but it's back pretty much in full force in BLOPS 2.

I'll have the game only due to the fact my son has been counting the days until it's release. We will be picking it up today after school.
I did find this bit of info from the IGN review interesting.
Treyarch’s also improved the competitive aspect of Call of Duty with the inclusion of the forwarding thinking League Play mode. League Play allows you and your friends to create teams, complete with a unique name and emblem, and hop into matches with everything unlocked right from the start. You simply play a few placement games to get matched up with similarly skilled teams, and then head out to see if you can earn your way to higher tiers. It’s a proven system that’s resulted in much fairer matches for strategy games like StarCraft II, and a welcome reprieve for those who want to skip the level grind entirely and just focus on tactics and skill building.

Re: COD: Black Ops 2
That league play may be worth a look, if it truly matches skill levels.
I've only played about 1/2 hour and so far its just like the last 4 or 5 CODs. I still enjoy the action and don't pay much attention to the story.Macca00 wrote:LOLmike95 wrote:I got it. Played some mp - my gaming reflexes are too slow.

Spectacular review with a fairly detailed explanation of the new matchmaking tweaks.

Re: COD: Black Ops 2
I did much better online last night. Knowing the maps a little helped a lot. Also more fun partying up with a couple of friends, instead of playing solo. We ended up on the winning side of some competitive Ground War games.
Re: COD: Black Ops 2
League Play mode sounds like a brilliant mode. Too bad that concept is in CoD and not shooters that DSP might actually play together online. That might be just the type of thing to keep some longevity in an online shooter around here.

Re: COD: Black Ops 2
Is this game faster than it used to be? It just feels so quick to me. With the high player movement speed and snap-sticky aim, most encounters are purely quick-draw competitions. I'm trying to keep my space and anticipate, but I feel like it doesn't matter. If a good player comes barreling around a corner, they will drop you so fast I was constantly like "WTF?!" last night. I don't remember it being that way in MW1 and 2 (provided you knew someone was coming and had them dead to rights), or maybe I am getting rusty.
